Bucky wins competitive wiener dog derby. His training was playing fetch.
When Adriana Smith brought her dachshund Bucky to the seventh annual Meadowlands Racetrack Wiener Dog Derby, she wasn't expecting much. Last year he didn't even finish the race.
'He got lost,' Smith said. 'He had no idea where he was going.'
But, to Smith's shock, Bucky had laserlike focus this year. He didn't get lost. Egged on by the roaring crowd of thousands, Bucky's tiny legs carried him over the finish line ahead of the other sausage dogs. He had outrun 79 other wieners to clinch the championship.

USWNT's latest roster features new players while Europe-based stars take a break
With U.S. coach Emma Hayes giving many of her Europe-based players a break, there were several new faces on the national team Wednesday for a trio of upcoming matches against Ireland and Canada. Lindsey Heaps, Catarina Macario and Emily Fox were among the players given time off after the European season. One exception was defender Naomi Girma, who is working her way back from a calf injury. The United States plays Ireland on June 26 in Commerce City, Colorado, and again on June 29 in Cincinnati. The team plays Canada on July 2 in Washington, D.C. The roster includes four players who have been called up to the national team for the first time: defenders Jordyn Bugg, Lilly Reale and Izzy Rodriguez, and midfielder Sam Meza. Six players on the 25-player roster have not yet appeared in a game for the senior national team. Hayes, who took over as national team coach last year, has been looking at new players as she prepares the team for the 2027 Women's World Cup in Brazil. She has given 27 players their first national team call-ups. 'We want to continue to improve our understanding of how we want to play and widen the player pool, and those are some of the key goals of this three-game window,' Hayes said in a statement Wednesday. Philly native, Harlem Globetrotter Darnell Artis named head coach of Gwynedd Mercy men's basketball
A Philadelphia native and Harlem Globetrotter is headed back to his alma mater, Gwynedd Mercy University. Darnell Artis will be the next coach of the Gwynedd Mercy Griffins men's basketball team, the Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, school announced Wednesday. At GMU, "Speedy" was named a first-team selection to the Colonial States Athletic Conference all-conference team three times and named the conference's rookie of the year as a freshman. The class of 2016 graduate helped the D-III Griffins to a championship and is a member of the school's Hall of Fame. Before Gwynedd Mercy, Artis played hoops at La Salle College High School, helping them to the Catholic League playoffs. He's also a co-founder of the UnderDawgs basketball league at the Lonnie Young Recreation Center in the East Germantown section of Philadelphia. GMU formally announced Artis as head coach in a press conference with Athletic Director Keith Mondillo and former head coach John Baron, who coached Artis. Artis shared the news on Instagram and said he will approach the job with "a relentless passion not just to win basketball games, but help young men shape their future."
