Charlie Eastwood toasts ‘faultless' effort after podium finish at 24 Hours of Le Mans
The Gold-rated driver laid the foundations for third place at the twice-around-the-clock meeting as he completed half of the event distance in the No.81 Z06 GT3.R.
Starting from sixth place on a packed grid, Eastwood, Tom Van Rompuy and Rui Andrade kept in touch with the LMGT3 pack before breaking into the top three when darkness fell.
The charge continued as Eastwood lapped Circuit de la Sarthe and he became the new class leader around 5am French time, and despite the Corvette lacking straight-line speed, its pace through corners and ability to preserve its tyres better paid dividends.
Despite surrendering top spot and finishing 71 seconds behind the victorious LMGT3 Manthey Racing Porsche 911 of Ryan Hardwick, Richard Lietz and Riccardo Pera and 38.451 seconds in arrears of the AF Course Ferrari shared by Simon Mann, Francois Heriau and Alessio Rovera, Eastwood said he had no complaints with coming home in third.
'I am delighted with the podium,' said Eastwood, who now has three Le Mans 24 Hour podiums to his name.
'It was a tricky week all week for us as we struggled for straight-line speed which, at a track like Le Mans, tends to come in pretty handy, but it was probably one of the most faultless 24-hour races I have been a part of.
'There were no mistakes from the drivers' side, every pit-stop was perfect and there was not a single touch of damage on the car for the entire race, and those were the things that put us into contention for a podium place.
'It is my first podium in a Corvette – and what a place to have it. Hopefully, it is the first of many at Le Mans – and hopefully I will get even more chances to step even higher on it in future – but right now, I am absolutely busted.'
He added: 'Again, like most previous years, I ended up doing just under half of the race whereas the other two guys completed six hours each as their minimum driver time.
'So, I am pretty tired but extremely satisfied with our performance and the team's as a whole.'
Meanwhile, a retrospective time penalty by stewards at Rali de Castelo Branco cost Kris Meeke a fourth victory from five starts in the 2025 Portuguese Rally Championship.
The Dungannon man thought he had taken top spot – and maximum points – from Dani Sordo by 14.5 seconds only to be punished after he was found to be in breach of the rules.
The College of Sports Commissioners said he failed to adhere to the road book as per the International Sporting Code, saying the integrity of the course must always be respected.
'It is very tough to lose a rally like this,' said Meeke, who finished runner-up. 'However, I am very happy with the performance.
'The fight with Dani was excellent, he is one of the best drivers in the world on asphalt, so I really had to give it my all to stay ahead of him.'

Man Utd scout £20m star from Sir Jim Ratcliffe's Nice as Ruben Amorim demands more physical players in transfer window
But a deal cannot take place until the final day of the transfer window FRENCH FANCY Man Utd scout £20m star from Sir Jim Ratcliffe's Nice as Ruben Amorim demands more physical players in transfer window Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) MANCHESTER UNITED have been scouting a holding midfielder from fellow Ineos-owned club Nice as they consider cut-price options. United sent a scout to Sweden's international friendly against Algeria last week to check on the player, who has been tipped to leave the Ligue 1 club this summer. Despite coming off after an hour, with his team trailing 4-0, Boudaoui demonstrated why many in France think he is ready for the Premier League. The 25-year-old won all of his ground duels and looked unruffled when put under pressure inside Algeria's half. He also showed a great range of passing with one excellent switch of play out to the right flank. And he even came close to grabbing a goal with a drilled effort from the corner of the penalty area that flew only a yard or so wide of the far post. Boudaoui is coming off an excellent season in France in which he emerged as one of the best in Ligue 1 in his position. In figures published in April by Datascout, he came out on top among 49 defensive midfielders for sprinting speed, fourth for the number of accelerations and sixth for high-intensity distance covered. Ruben Amorim is desperate to bring players with a more physical profile to the Old Trafford and Boudaoui certainly fits the bill. 4 Join SUN CLUB for the Man Utd Files every Thursday plus in-depth coverage and exclusives from Old Trafford The Red Devils were unable to sign players from Nice last summer because both clubs were set to feature in the Europa League. Sir Jim Ratcliffe agreed not to move any players between the clubs until September 2025 to satisfy Uefa's concerns over multi-club ownership. Man Utd stars 'intimidated' by weight of shirt but can still thrive after leaving like McTominay, says Angel Gomes That means any deal for Boudaoui cannot take place until the final day of the summer transfer window with the deadline for Premier League clubs set for 7pm on September 1. Other Premier League clubs have been sniffing around while reports in France have linked Boudaoui, who has two years left on his contract, with unnamed clubs in Spain and Germany. Nice could demand £20m for the midfielder but transfer funds are likely to be tight at Old Trafford. United have already splurged £62.5m on Matheus Cunha and may now need to sell in order to finance further high-profile transfers.

Enzo Maresca told harsh reality of Chelsea transfer pursuit and total cost
Chelsea have been told to prepare to spend more than expected if they want to sign Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike, who is also being tracked by Manchester United Chelsea legend Florent Malouda has warned that the club could end up paying a hefty sum for Hugo Ekitike. The west London club are interested in the striker, who has shone at Eintracht Frankfurt. In a quick move to rejuvenate their attack, Chelsea have already signed Liam Delap after forking out £30million to activate his Ipswich Town release clause. With plans to pit the young striker against Nicolas Jackson, Chelsea also remain interested in Ekitike but any deal will be expensive for Enzo Maresca's side. After notching up an impressive tally of 22 goals and 12 assists across all competitions this season, the French forward's price tag could rise above £100m. That's according to Chelsea icon Malouda, who has admitted that Ekitike has what it takes to succeed at Stamford Bridge. Despite welcoming Delap aboard, Chelsea remain interested in Ekitike, with the German club placing an £85m price tag on their star striker, as per While Chelsea are unlikely to meet Frankfurt's valuation, Malouda wouldn't be shocked if Ekitike's price climbed even higher. "Hugo Ekitike would be a good option for Chelsea because, even though he didn't play much for PSG, he has experience of competitive squads," Malouda said to bet365. "He has potential to score 20-plus goals in the Premier League. It just comes down to price. When German clubs see Chelsea, the price tag will be £100million plus. It's a question of price." Chelsea hold the 22-year-old forward in high regard but are not expected to cough up the massive £85m asking price set by Frankfurt, despite other clubs monitoring the striker. Ekitike has also reportedly attracted interest from Manchester United. However, the Bundesliga outfit will not mind clubs being put off by Ekitike's price tag. Frankfurt achieved Champions League qualification after finishing third this season and are not in a rush to sell their prize asset. Eintracht Frankfurt's CEO Markus Krosche was clear regarding the potential sale of Ekitike. "If the price isn't right, then he'll just stay with us. We don't have to sell Hugo," he said. Having started off at Reims, Ekitike caught the eye and secured a move to PSG but struggled for game time. A loan to Frankfurt in February 2024 saw his fortunes change for the better. Chelsea's interest in Ekitike is not thought to harm Jackson's future at the club. The 23-year-old forward scored 13 goals across his second season at Stamford Bridge. On the other hand, Christopher Nkunku, once on the radar of United and Bayern Munich, is likely to leave this summer. Despite his future potentially being elsewhere, Chelsea have named the forward in their Club World Cup squad. The Blues face LAFC in their opening Club World Cup game tonight (8pm), with further group matches against Brazilian club Flamengo (Friday, 7pm) and Tunisian team ES Tunis (25 June, 2am) Florent Malouda was speaking on behalf of bet365 and their launch of the free-to-play Club World Championship Tournament Predictor game. The AWD Corvette ZR1 Is Gunning For Nürburgring Glory
The ZR1 Nameplate Will Never Be The Same Again When the Corvette moved to a mid-engine layout for the C8 generation, it opened up myriad opportunities for experimentation and innovation, and now it's time to explore another with the car many believed would be called Zora. What we're referring to is effectively a ZR1 with the electric front axle of the hybridized E-Ray, but according to recent teasers from GM, it seems the Zora name has been shelved. Instead, a new teaser campaign indicates that the most extreme C8 to date will be denoted by the letter X. Will this be the Corvette XR1? The Corvette ZRX? We'll find out tomorrow. In the meantime, our spies have caught the new car testing near the Nürburgring. Oops! We're unable to load this content right now. View directly on Instagram The ZR1 Wants To Beat The Green Hell The 815-horsepower Ford Mustang GTD recently set a new benchmark for American cars at the Nürburgring, setting a lap time well below 7 minutes. But it may not stand for long, if CorvetteBlogger is to be believed. The publication claims that General Motors has been testing multiple ZR1 examples around the Nordschleife and has booked time for a possible lap record attempt later this month. Presumably, GM would want to set a time with the 'regular' ZR1 first, and if that doesn't achieve a new record, perhaps the 'X' version with AWD and more power could. According to our spies, the car formerly expected to be called the Zora could produce as much as 1,224 hp, so it certainly wouldn't be short on grunt. Styling Changes, If Any, Will Be Minor The prototype in these images looks just like any other ZR1, except for its unusual exhaust tips, which are placeholder items only there as part of the testing program. Still, our spies say the noise was anything but subtle, particularly when shifting gears at high rpm. We expect the production version of whatever we're looking at to be just as similar to the ZR1, with cosmetic changes only likely to extend as far as wheel, trim, and paint options. Hopefully, Chevrolet will have lots to share with us tomorrow. Regardless, we're told to expect the latest and most extreme version of the C8 to arrive at dealers sometime in late 2026.
