Infrastructure Development & Assets Management Authority Bill passed
The committee confirmed the minutes of the previous meeting held on May 2, 2025, and reviewed the implementation status of earlier recommendations.
The committee passed the Pakistan Infrastructure Development and Assets Management Authority Bill, 2024, with amendments and reservations, including provisions to ensure proper adjustment of PWD employees without compromising their rights.
The Standing Committee on Housing and Works took serious notice of the ministry's lack of seriousness and its failure to brief the committee on FGEHA-related issues.
To address matters including pending payments for land acquisition, built-up property, and other concerns in FGEHA housing projects, the committee formed a sub-committee under the convenor-ship of Anjum Aqeel Khan, MNA, with Seema Mohiuddin Jamali, Ibrar Ahmad, and Mehboob Shah, MNAs, as members.
The CEO of PHA-F provided a detailed update on the organisation's structure, staffing, mandate, and housing project progress. He highlighted PHA-F's role as a self-sustaining executing arm of the Ministry of Housing and Works, focused on delivering affordable housing nationwide without government grants.
The committee appreciated his efforts and directed the CDA to prioritise development of 17th Avenue and other related projects to facilitate PHA-F's schemes.
The meeting was attended by members, Anjum Aqeel Khan, Ibrar Ahmad, Nasir Iqbal Bosal, Anwarul Haq Chaudhary, Syed Samiul Hassan Gilani, Seema Mohiuddin, Dr Darshan, Haji Rasool Bux Chandio, Mehboob Shah, Saleem Rehman, Usman Ali, Muhammad Shabir Ali Qureshi, Shagufta Jumani (online via Zoom, mover on the agenda item No 5), and senior officers including secretary from the Ministry of Housing and Works and its attached department.

Accepting JUI-F demand, govt says will reconstruct demolished mosque
ISLAMABAD: The government has accepted the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazal (JUI-F) demand to reconstruct the demolished Madni Masjid in Islamabad. Following successful negotiations between the two sides, the government agreed not only to rebuild the mosque but also to refrain from demolishing other mosques in the federal capital. Two rounds of talks took place between government representatives and JUI-F leaders. The government side was led by Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, while the JUI-F delegation included Central Secretary General Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, Islamabad Ameer Mufti Owais Aziz, and other religious scholars. Senior officials, including the Capital Development Authority (CDA)chairman, the Islamabad Inspector General of Police, and the Deputy Commissioner, also participated in the negotiations. The dispute arose after the CDA, in a joint operation with heavy machinery and security provided by the Islamabad administration and police, demolished the Madni Masjid and its adjoining seminary. The mosque was razed on Saturday night, following the demolition of the seminary a day earlier (Friday night). Within hours of clearing the debris, CDA's environment wing planted tree saplings on the site. Minister TalalChaudhry said in a statement that the seminary was demolished with the consent of its management, adding that a new facility capable of housing 200 students had been built at an alternative location costing Rs40 million. The JUI spokesman, Aslam Ghori, has announced that the woman parliamentarian of his party has also submitted a resolution in the National Assembly while condemning demolishing of the Madni Masjid. However, JUI spokesman Aslam Ghori strongly condemned the demolition, as did the Wafaqul Madaris leadership. They said the action had caused unrest among the public and religious circles, particularly amid reports that other mosques in the capital might also be targeted for demolition. Earlier, religious scholars belonging to the Wafaqul Madaris Al-Arabia warned the federal government against demolishing mosques and seminaries in Islamabad, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry said Sunday the religious seminary located on Murree Road was demolished with consultation and consent of seminary's management. The Wafaqul Madaris leadership strongly condemned the demolition of Madni Masjid and religious seminary located adjacent to the mosque building situated on Murree Road in front of Margalla Town. Green tractor scheme: applications will be received from 13th
LAHORE: The Punjab government will begin receiving applications for the second phase of Chief Minister's Green Tractor Programme from August 13, 2025, offering substantial subsidies to farmers in a bid to modernise agriculture and boost productivity. Under this phase, 10,000 locally-manufactured tractors of 50-65 horsepower will be provided with a Rs. 500,000 subsidy each, while another 10,000 locally-manufactured or imported tractors of 75-125 horsepower will be subsidised at Rs. 1 million each. Digital balloting at the tehsil level is scheduled for September 15. Announcing the initiative at a review meeting on ongoing projects under the transforming Punjab agriculture programme, Punjab Agriculture Minister Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani said the provincial government was committed to 'revolutionary programmes' aimed at uplifting farmers' incomes. He revealed that under the high-tech financing programme for the next fiscal year, farmers will receive 11 types of modern agricultural machinery on subsidy, with 1,000 units to be distributed. A budget of Rs. 30 billion has been allocated, offering interest-free loans of up to Rs. 30 million, repayable over five years, for machinery purchase. In water management, the Chief Minister's Water Conservation Project will line 1,400 watercourses and distribute 500 laser land levellers this year, with another 500 next year via transparent balloting. The Minister said the kissan card scheme remains a flagship project, enabling timely purchase of agricultural inputs. In its second phase, Rs. 94.15 billion has been allocated, with farmers already utilising Rs. 49.33 billion. Under the Chief Minister's Wheat Support Programme, Rs. 14 billion has been disbursed and 978 tractors distributed through transparent balloting. The province is also expanding its model agriculture malls, with facilities in Sahiwal, Multan, Bahawalpur, and Sargodha completed and 10 more planned in the next phase. Punjab minister steps up criticism of PTI
LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Information and Culture, Azma Bokhari, has said that the nation will celebrate Independence Day on August 14 with great fervour and will also mark the success of Operation Bunyan Marsoos; meanwhile, a disruptive faction is conspiring to create unrest on this national occasion, she said. Azma Bokhari expressed her dismay that certain political elements try to politicise every national event. 'Protesting on a national day is not the agenda of any patriotic political party,' she said, adding, 'This is the same group that emerged from the 2014 sit-ins and has since made agitation and protests their hobby.' She emphasised that PTI has no regard for national or religious events, as their politics revolves solely around creating division and chaos. Issuing a strong warning, Bokhari said that the law will take its course if anyone attempts to take the law into their own hands. 'Even on August 5, no significant protest was seen in Punjab — and the same will happen again,' she asserted. 'The people of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are now fed up with PTI's toxic politics, she said.' Advising the PTI leadership, she urged them to call off their planned protest on August 14, saying: Show patriotism for once — if there's any sense of Pakistani identity and humanity left. In a sharp critique, she remarked that the group blindly following Prisoner No. 420 has reached the pinnacle of ignorance. But the nation has seen through their agenda and has rejected their brand of politics, she added. Azma concluded by saying that no anarchist group will be allowed to sabotage the nation's celebrations.
