Half Marathon 'One Run' 2025: Karachi to host global for second year on May 24
Karachi will once again welcome thousands of runners as it hosts the global One Run Half Marathon on Saturday, May 24, for the second consecutive year.
Organised in collaboration with the international Hero League, the event will see over 2,000 participants take part in Karachi alone, joining more than 200,000 runners across the world.
Billed as the world's largest half marathon, One Run unites runners from across continents in a synchronised celebration of fitness and community spirit.
This year's race in Karachi will start at the Emaar Sales Center in DHA, featuring a scenic coastal route along the city's shoreline.
In addition to the flagship 21.1 km half marathon, local organisers have arranged 1 km, 5 km, and 10 km races to make the event accessible to runners of all ages and experience levels — from seasoned athletes to first-timers and families.
'We're thrilled to partner with One Run for the second time, further solidifying Pakistan's presence on the global sports stage,' said Shoaib Nizami, CEO of Sports in Pakistan.
'This event will continue to showcase our sports talent, breathtaking landscapes, and warm hospitality to the world.'
Alongside Pakistan, countries such as Poland, Germany, and Japan will see participation in this year's race.
The largest number of international participants will come from Russia, where over 180,000 runners will take part in the event known locally as ZaBeg.RF.
One Run began in Russia in 2017 across 10 cities. It expanded rapidly over the years, going international in 2023 with races held in China, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Tajikistan, and Belarus.
A landmark edition in 2020 earned two Guinness World Records for the largest number of cities participating in a simultaneous half marathon.
This year, over 40,000 additional runners from countries including Bahrain, Bangladesh, Brazil, Egypt, India, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Venezuela and others are also expected to join.
Karachi's hosting of the event reflects a growing interest in mass participation sports in Pakistan and underscores the city's capacity to be part of major global sporting movements.

Throughout the run, he faced brutal conditions: a dust storm, extreme fatigue, and painful injuries that included rotting feet, lost toenails, and bone pain so severe it caused hallucinations. He also recalled the mental battle through the Nullabor Plain, a vast, harsh desert stretch in Australia's interior. Despite all odds, Goodge said he felt "very comfortable" once the run concluded. At the finish line, Goodge placed flowers at Bondi Beach in memory of his mother. 'She was the most special person in my life,' he told Guardian Australia. 'She would be proud of everything I've done—she'd also be concerned.' He told the Sydney Morning Herald that remembering his mother's strength during her illness helped him push through the pain. 'In the moments where it's tough, I think about the woman she was, and how she handled herself, and how she supported me.' Along his journey, Goodge saw much of Australia's iconic wildlife and landscapes—though he noted, most of the animals were sadly roadkill. Despite some online scrutiny over the accuracy of his run's tracking data, Goodge and his team insist all steps were accounted for. 'He is taking every single step,' his agent told Canadian Running magazine. Goodge previously claimed the title of fastest British man to run across the US, completing the route from Los Angeles to New York in 55 days.

2025 London Marathon sets new Guinness World Record with 56,640 finishers

The figure surpassed the previous record of 55,646 set by the New York Marathon in November. Hugh Brasher, chief executive of London Marathon Events, said he hoped the achievement would inspire even greater participation in the future. 'The London Marathon was already the most popular in terms of ballot entries, with 840,318 people applying for the 2025 race," Brasher said. "It is also the world's largest annual one-day fundraising event, with more than £1.3 billion raised for charity since 1981." This year's ballot application numbers had already broken the previous world record, with 578,304 people having applied for the 2024 race. Of the UK-based applicants, 49% were women, and organisers noted a 105% increase in applications from people aged 20 to 29. On the competitive front, Ethiopia's Tigst Assefa clinched victory in the elite women's race, setting a world record for a women-only field. Kenya's Sebastian Sawe secured the men's title. It was also a repeat Swiss triumph in the wheelchair races, with Catherine Debrunner breaking her own course record in the women's event and Marcel Hug claiming his seventh London Marathon win in the men's category.
