A shy Shiba mix is ready to bloom
Crispin is new to ARK and, in many ways, new to most everything. Her former owner didn't take her for walks because she was so shy. This meant she spent all her time in the house and garden and, as a result, had no experience with other people.
When her owner passed away and Crispin came to the shelter, the look on her face was usually blank. She'd never worn a harness before and would try to escape as soon as her leash came off after a walk. Her new world was very big and scary — but she has started to blossom after just a few months.
Crispin loves to go on walks in the morning and at night, and is even warming up to different kinds of people.

Seitaro Matsuo
Born in late 2017 and believed to be a Shiba mix, Crispin is definitely coming into her own. Now she loves walks and knows to stand still and wait patiently afterward. She's even warming up to people and gestures of affection. This shy girl is ready to bloom, just in time for cherry blossom season.

This charming Shiba enjoys life's simple pleasures
This beautiful Shiba in her golden years is named Charisma, and time with her, as they say of charismatic people, may indeed inspire devotion. Charisma has a quiet charm, rooted in her love of a simple life and simple pleasures. Sweet and friendly, this smiley Shiba lost her home when her elderly owner was hospitalized. She came to ARK as 'quite a chubby girl,' but has since dieted down to a perfect curvy 8 kilograms. Soft toys are one of Charisma's go-to pleasures, and she can still play like a pup. Then there's snoozing in her bed, another favorite pastime. She also enjoys massages and will happily cozy up with you, especially if there's a good facial massage to be had. While she has a taste for life's simple pleasures, Charisma won't hesitate to let you know when something rubs her the wrong way. | Kana Matsutani Though she is a connoisseur of life's simple pleasures, Charisma is also ready to let you know when something rubs her the wrong way. It's a two-way street. Give this girl time to get to know you and you'll get to bask in her affection, day and night. Tuxedo cat Cupcake is a special treat
Always ready for an elegant gathering, Cupcake wears her tuxedo at all times in the hopes she'll be invited out on the town (or at least away from the shelter). This cat has taken life's sudden upheavals in stride, such as when her former owner was hospitalized and she lost her home. Shipshape and well-groomed, Cupcake was considered 'unfriendly' when she first came to ARK. But over time, she has proven to be very affectionate — just discerning. She just wants to give and receive affection on her own terms, when the time is right. She expresses herself vocally and knows how to assert herself around other cats. As the only cat in her former home, she seems to be accustomed to the lifestyle. Perhaps best suited for a household without other cats, Cupcake has demonstrated that she is full of affection — just on her own terms. | Kanae Shirai Cupcake arrived at ARK less than two months ago right around her 10th birthday. The shock and disbelief at suddenly losing her home must have been very difficult emotionally. One ARK insider and something of a 'cat whisperer' says, 'When Cupcake finds a home with someone who will cater to her needs and give her affection when she wants it, she's going to be a very happy cat.' A cupcake with a twist — lots of flavor and spice, not overly sweet — this girl will be a devilishly delightful sweetheart for someone who knows how to treat her. A Hokkaido cross that's more sweet than spicy
Unlike the highly spiced curry that is his namesake, Vindaloo is more on the sweet side. When he was 2 years old, he and a number of other dogs were rescued from the grounds of a temple in Gifu Prefecture. They all went from a life roaming the mountains to living in a shelter. Born in March 2014, Vindaloo is a Hokkaido cross and, characteristic of his breed, he appears to be smiling all the time. He can be quite timid and still gets scared by loud noises, despite being a big, fluffy boy weighing in at 16 kilograms. Even though he weighs 16 kilograms, Vindaloo still gets scared by loud noises. | Kana Matsutani Vindaloo adores his dog friends from the temple. He doesn't warm up to other dogs that easily, but is always courteous to them. He delights in his walks and absolutely loves the snow. We're hoping someone will appreciate this handsome fellow for all that he is.
