"Nobody wants war, but...": Ajay Devgn speaks on Operation Sindoor's success
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], May 14 (ANI): Actor Ajay Devgn, who attended the trailer launch of 'Karate Kid: Legends' with his son Yug Devgan on Wednesday, lauded the Indian armed forces and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the success of Operation Sindoor--India's recent military action targeting terror camps across the border.
While speaking at the launch event, the actor said, 'I don't even need to say that. Nobody wants war, but when there's no choice left, then... there's no choice left. I salute the armed forces, the PM, and the government. They had to do what they did, and they did it great. Thank you.'
Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7, targeted terror camps in Pakistan and PoJK in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.
The strikes were conducted in response to the Pahalgam terror attack; however, in a swift response, the Indian government suspended the Indus Water Treaty signed in 1960 between the two countries, following the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting a day after the attack. The operation led to the deaths of over 100 terrorists from groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen.
In his address to the nation on May 12, PM Modi said that after the surgical strike in 2016 and the airstrike in 2019, Operation Sindoor now forms India's policy against terrorism.The Prime Minister referred to India suspending the Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack and stated that water and blood cannot flow together. He also mentioned that if talks with Pakistan take place, it will only be on terrorism and the vacating of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, which is under its illegal occupation. He further stated that Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, has set a new benchmark in India's fight against terrorism and established a new standard and a new normal.
Meanwhile, talking about Karate Kid: Legends, Devgn, along with his son, will lend their voices to the Hindi version of the Jackie Chan starrer.
Ajay will voice the iconic character Mr. Han, portrayed by Jackie Chan, while Yug makes his much-anticipated debut as Li Fong, the film's lead character originally played by Ben Wang.
This marks Devgn's first-ever voiceover for an international film in his acting career, while his son Yug is expected to bring a youthful spirit to the globally beloved Karate Kid franchise.
According to the press note from the Karate Kid team, the film follows kung fu prodigy Li Fong as he adjusts to life in a new school, forms unexpected bonds, and is drawn into an intense showdown with a local karate champion.
Under the guidance of his teacher, Han (Jackie Chan), and the legendary Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio), Li embarks on a transformative journey of self-discovery, courage, and growth.
Sony Pictures Entertainment India will release Karate Kid: Legends in theaters on May 30, 2025, in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. (ANI)

CJI Gavai champions cross-border legal synergy at ICA London conference
New Delhi / London, June 5 (UNI) Chief Justice of India Justice B R Gavai inaugurated the third International Conference on 'Arbitrating Indo-UK Commercial Disputes: Synergizing India–UK Arbitration Practices' in London on Thursday. The high-level event, hosted by the Indian Council of Arbitration (ICA) during London International Disputes Week, brought together legal luminaries, judges, policymakers, and commercial dispute resolution experts from both nations to strengthen ties in arbitration and mediation. Delivering the inaugural address, CJI Gavai remarked, 'India and the United Kingdom share a rich history, bound by the tradition of arbitration and mediation rooted in our common law heritage.' The conference was also addressed by Union Minister of Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal, Lord Michael Briggs, Judge of the UK Supreme Court, Justice Hima Kohli, Supreme Court of India, Vikram Doraiswami, High Commissioner of India to the UK, and eminent lawyers including Harish Salve KC and Geeta Luthra, Vice President of ICA. CJI Gavai reflected on India's arbitration journey, invoking Mahatma Gandhi's commitment to mediation as foundational. 'Disputes are inevitable. What defines a strong commercial relationship is our commitment to resolve them efficiently,' he stated. He emphasised India's progress through amendments to the Arbitration and Conciliation Act (notably 2019), the establishment of the Arbitration Council of India, and the 2024 Bill proposing emergency arbitration and appellate tribunals. He lauded the UK's 2025 reforms in its Arbitration Act, promoting summary disposal and legal clarity. Justice Gavai drew from key Indian rulings, including BALCO, Vijay Karia, Amazon versus Future Retail and Gayatri Balasamy, to emphasise judicial minimalism and finality in arbitration. He noted, 'When arbitral awards are upheld without unnecessary interference, it enhances predictability, business trust, and investor confidence.' The CJI praised the growth of Indian institutions like DIAC, MCIA, and IIAC, while commending LCIA's role as a global benchmark. He stressed the importance of collaboration between Indian and UK arbitration bodies to raise global standards. Justice Gavai applauded the adoption of Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) and hybrid systems such as Arb-Med-Arb. He called the Bar Council of India's recent move to allow foreign lawyers to advise on arbitration in India a 'landmark reform' that balances global openness with domestic integrity. CJI Gavai humorously outlined four transformative reforms he would introduce with a "magical wand". 'If I Had a Wand…,' CJI said, "I would make four reforms for India's Arbitration Regime." Finality of Arbitral Awards – Arbitration must be the final word, not an invitation for years of litigation. Mainstream Institutional Arbitration -- The Arbitration centres should be the norm, not an exception. Elimination of Delays -- Procedural fairness should not become a tool for tactical stalling. Diversity in Arbitrators -- The arbitrator pool must reflect varied perspectives and backgrounds for better outcomes. Chief Justice Gavai concluded by affirming India's unwavering commitment to becoming a preferred global seat for arbitration. He said, 'As India and the UK grow increasingly interconnected in commerce and law, our shared democratic values and legal traditions provide a strong foundation for a unified, efficient, and trustworthy dispute resolution system.' The conference echoed a resounding call for legal harmonisation, technology-driven arbitration, and cross-border cooperation with the shared goal of easing court pendency and bolstering investor confidence through strong alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. A day ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Jammu and Kashmir to flag off the first Vande Bharat train to Kashmir, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah shared glimpses of 'tallest railway bridge in the world' – The Chenab bridge. Abdullah visited the Chenab Bridge and reviewed arrangements for the visit of PM Modi on Thursday. Taking to X, the Jammu and Kashmir CM wrote, 'Visited the tallest railway bridge in the world, The Chenab Bridge, to review arrangements for the visit of the Hon PM @narendramodi ji tomorrow. Tomorrow is a landmark day for J&K when, finally, the valley will be connected to the rest of the country by a railway link to be inaugurated at the hands of the Hon PM.' He also shared multiple images and videos of the Chenab bridge. Along with Union Minister Jitendra Singh, Omar Abdullah also inspected the Katra railway station and the Vande Bharat train, which will be flagged off by PM Modi on Friday. He said, as quoted by ANI, "If I tell you that I have been waiting for this moment for a long time, it will still not be enough. This rail project began when I was in the 7th or 8th class. Now, even my children have started working after completing school and college. "This project has set many records. The Chenab Bridge is higher than the Eiffel Tower. Anji Khad Bridge is the longest cable-stayed railway bridge in the country. We will ensure successful Amarnath Yatra," he added. The world's tallest railway bridge, Chenab Bridge, stands 359 meters above mean sea level. It will connect Jammu and Srinagar. At an estimated cost of over ₹ 43,000 crore, the USBRL project involved laying out ballastless tracks over bridges and tunnels, spanning deep gorges. Ninety per cent of the route was traversed over 943 bridges and 36 main tunnels, including India's longest railway tunnel, T-50, which stretched more than 12.7 km. Also, on the Katra-Banihal section, the Vande Bharat train will also traverse another engineering marvel: the Anji Khad bridge, India's first cable-stayed bridge. Supported by 96 cables, the 725-meter-long bridge stands 331 meters above mean sea level.
