Anwar is a closed chapter for LDF: T.P. Ramakrishnan
Convener of the Left Democratic Front T.P. Ramakrishnan has said that P.V. Anwar was a closed chapter for the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and that the front will never again trust a leader who changes his stand every now and then.
Speaking to reporters in Kozhikode on Friday, Mr. Ramkrishnan said that the current political situation puts the LDF at an advantage in the forthcoming Assembly bypolls in Nilambur constituency and that M. Swaraj was a capable candidate.
Mr. Ramakrishnan criticised the Congress for kicking up a controversy over the distribution of welfare pensions with the polls approaching. He explained the history of the welfare pensions in the State and alleged that the Congress was always against it. 'By criticising the distribution of pensions, they are insulting not just the goodwill of the government but over 62 lakh people in the State who receive it,' he said.
The LDF convener welcomed the stand of the State government as well as the Department of Agriculture in boycotting the World Environment Day programme at the Raj Bhavan. 'The Governor adopted a stand favourable to the RSS and the department had no other option,' he said.
He also stated that the results of the Nilambur bypolls will have a far-reaching impact on Kerala politics. He also stated that the Congress' approach to P.V. Anwar was nothing short of deceit.

BRS could not pay salaries on time, says Congress MLA
Choppadandi MLA Medipally Sathyam has lauded the Revanth Reddy-led Congress government for responding positively to the problems of government employees. The MLA expressed confidence that government employees have placed their trust in the Chief Minister, who has been paying salaries on the first date, and has already given one DA.

Gujarat Congress leader arrested for posts on Operation Sindoor
Ahmedabad: Gujarat Congress general secretary Rajesh Soni was arrested on Friday for posting content on social media that was deemed misleading and damaging the morale of India's armed forces involved in Operation Sindoor, police said. The operation, launched last month by the Indian military to target terror hubs in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), has been a focal point of national sensitivity, prompting authorities to closely monitor online activities. According to Superintendent of Police (CID-Cyber Crime) Bharatsinh Tank, an FIR was registered against Soni on Thursday over certain posts on Facebook. Along with the May 22 post on Operation Sindoor, police also cited an older post from April 3 last year in the FIR, which HT has seen. The posts undermine the morale of defence personnel and endanger India's sovereignty through misleading information, according to police. Based on a complaint filed by Ajay Swami, 35, a sub-inspector of the cyber crime cell of the Criminal Investigation Department, CID Crime, Gujarat, Soni was charged under sections 152 (acts endangering sovereignty, unity and integrity of India) and 353(1)(a) (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the SP said. Operation Sindoor, launched on the night of May 6-7, 2025, was a high-precision military offensive targeting nine terror camps in Pakistan and PoK in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians. The operation resulted in the deaths of over 100 terrorists, with India repelling subsequent Pakistani counter-attacks. The government has since been monitoring social media for content deemed anti-national or disruptive, leading to multiple arrests across Gujarat. As many as 17 individuals, including Soni, have so far been detained in Gujarat for objectionable posts related to the operation. Gujarat Congress president Shaktisinh Gohil said that Soni was detained by police as if they were catching a terrorist. Criticising the action. Gohil said his party colleague only tried to highlight that soldiers need to get their due credit instead of government spending taxpayers money on publicity.

Activists urge Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah to stop felling of 368 trees in Bengaluru's Cantonment area
Environmental activists have written to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah urging him to immediately intervene and prevent the felling of 368 trees in the Bengaluru Cantonment railway premises. To facilitate construction, the Railways has sought permission from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Forest Cell to axe the trees. Following this, the Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF) had invited public objections on April 25, 2025. A letter by A.T. Ramaswamy, an environment activist, stated that a campaign held on World Environment Day (June 5) saw participation from seers, retired officials, and environmentalists, all demanding that the trees be saved and the land declared a biodiversity park. The group has accused the BBMP Forest Cell of prioritising corporate interests over public health and green cover. They have called on the Chief Minister to issue immediate directions to stop tree felling and protect Bengaluru's rapidly declining urban canopy. In April, The Hindu first reported that the BBMP issued a public notice inviting objections to the proposed felling of 368 trees located inside the colony. The Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA), under the Ministry of Railways, has sought permission for the removal of trees as part of its 'commercial development project' planned at the site.
