Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians are all set to take on each other in what promises to be one of the best battles between two brilliant teams of IPL 2025. While Gujarat would look to go one step closer to their second title with a spot in Qualifier 2, Mumbai is chasing a record sixth title, a feat yet untouched.
Neither of these two teams could reach the playoffs last season, and both finished in the bottom half of the points table and hence, neither of them would like to waste a chance to extend their trophy cabinet.
Gujarat finished runners-up in IPL 2023, a year after they won the title in 2022, while Mumbai have never finished on the wrong side of things if they have reached the final. The winner of Friday's game will take on the Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2 on Sunday, June 1, in Ahmedabad and Gujarat would look forward to playing at home.
Ahead of the big clash between the two star-studded teams, we take a look at a few of the key battles that can shape this encounter:
Sai Sudharsan vs Trent Boult
In three seasons since IPL 2023, Boult has bowled 30 deliveries to Sudharsan, of which the star batter has scored 31 runs and has been dismissed twice. Both dismissals came this year, and Sudharsan's strike rate is 103.3 when he faces Boult. If he is dismissed within the powerplay, Gujarat's inconsistent middle order will be exposed, which will be a huge plus for Mumbai.
Shubman Gill vs Jasprit Bumrah
A behind-the-scenes battle for India's Test captaincy, to fight each other for a spot in Qualifier 2, this will be one of the biggest matchups to look out for. While Gill might have bagged the India captaincy, Bumrah holds the key against him.
In six seasons, the star Indian pacer has bowled 38 balls to Gill, off which the latter has scored just 34 runs while being dismissed twice. His strike rate is 89.5 while facing Bumrah. If Boult-Bumrah can see the back of Sudharsan-Gill, half the job is done for Mumbai.
Naman Dhir vs Prasidh Krishna
Naman Dhir has provided, on more than one occasion, Mumbai with some much-needed firepower in the lower middle order, and the only Gujarat bowler who could dismiss him was Prasidh Krishna. Naman hasn't been able to score quickly against the Gujarat pacer, and Gill might look to keep at least one over of him till the end to counter the Mumbai big-hitters.

‘Today we mourn': Rishi Sunak reacts to Bengaluru stampede
Former UK prime minister Rishi Sunak on Wednesday expressed his condolences over a stampede in Bangalore that killed 11 people. The stampede took place at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, where thousands of fans had gathered to celebrate the victory of Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2025 final. "Mine and Akshata's hearts go out to everyone who has lost loved ones or been hurt in the tragic events in Bengaluru. We celebrated with you yesterday and we mourn with you today," he wrote on X.
