IPL Flashback: Surya Kumar Yadav's Prank On Tilak Varma Is Still Fresh As A Lemon

Last Updated: It took some seconds for Tilak to realise the sour taste as he woke up in shock, leaving Surya in stitches. After Mumbai Indians progressed to the second qualifier of IPL 2025, an old video featuring Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav has resurfaced online. It dates back to 2023, when Surya, a senior member of the Mumbai unit, pulled a hilarious prank on Tilak on a mid-air flight. The team was supposedly travelling from one city to another for an IPL match. Tilak, visibly tired, was taking a nap while sitting on a window seat, and Surya took it as an opportunity. The Indian T20I captain took a piece of lemon from a flight attendant and squeezed it inside Tilak's open mouth. It took some seconds for the youngster to realise the sour taste as he woke up in shock and asked, 'Kya ho gaya? Kya hai isme?" (What happened? What's in there?) Surya certainly enjoyed his teammate's startled reaction. He was spotted laughing at Tilak after playing the successful prank. Other members of the Mumbai unit were also left in splits. The video, initially posted by the Mumbai Indians during IPL 2023, has been reshared by a fan with the title– 'Surya bhai squeezes lemon into Tilak's mouth when Tilak bhai is sleeping peacefully." The clip was once again hit on social media, attracting reactions from many cricket fans. The comment section was soon filled with laughing emojis after the post was dropped on Instagram. Referring to Surya and Tilak's camaraderie, one fan said, 'Love this duo." Another suggested that Surya should try the same lemon prank on former Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma. 'Surya bhai tried his 'supla shot' here," quipped a viewer. Speaking about their ongoing campaign, the Mumbai Indians remain just a few steps away from their sixth IPL title. Following a resounding performance in the second half of the league stage, MI sealed their berth in the Eliminator. Mumbai met Gujarat Titans in the knockout clash in Mullanpur on Friday, and dominated the proceedings. Rohit Sharma chipped in with an 81-run knock while Johny Bairstow struck a blistering 47 as MI set a huge target of 229 runs. Gujarat were also able to breach the 200-run mark, but ended up falling 20 runs short of the required total. Mumbai Indians will face Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2 of IPL 2025 on Sunday, June 1, in Ahmedabad. First Published:

IPL 2025 eliminator: Gujarat Titans vs Mumbai Indians builds tension as fans roar ‘We trust Shubman Gill with closed eyes!'

Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians are set to face off in the IPL 2025 Eliminator at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur on May 30. This crucial match will determine who moves on to face Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2. With Gujarat aiming to keep their knockout momentum and Mumbai hoping to capitalise on their vast playoff experience, fans are in for a tight contest. Past playoff performance Since their debut, Gujarat Titans have made an immediate impact, reaching the finals twice in their three seasons. In terms of playoff matches, excluding finals, GT have played three and come out victorious in two, giving them a solid 66.67% success rate in the knockouts. Mumbai Indians, the five-time IPL champions, bring with them a rich playoff legacy. They have featured in 14 playoff games—excluding finals—and won eight of them. That brings their playoff win percentage to a respectable 57.14%. They've also reached the IPL final six times, clinching the trophy in five of those appearances. Recent form and head-to-head Coming into this match, Gujarat Titans are looking to bounce back after suffering two back-to-back losses. But their record against Mumbai this season offers hope. GT has already defeated MI twice in IPL 2025 and hold an overall edge with five wins out of seven encounters between the two teams. The two sides have only clashed once before in a knockout game. That was in Qualifier 2 of IPL 2023, where Gujarat came out on top with a convincing 62-run win. With that history on their side, GT will hope to keep their upper hand intact. What fans are saying The clash has sparked excitement online. One fan asked, 'MI vs GT, who is winning today?' while another said, 'Excited for the MI vs GT clash! Who's your pick for MOM?' A viewer stressed the importance of MI's bowling strategy, saying, 'Hardik Pandya should use Jasprit Bumrah right away. With Buttler out, they need to get the openers as fast as possible.' Hardik Pandya should use Jasprit Bumrah right away, with Buttler out of the picture, they need to try to get the openers as fast as possible, as it will make a huge difference in the outcome. 🎯 On the Gujarat side, Shubman Gill continues to command fan trust. One supporter said, 'I can bet on Shubman Gill, #AankhBandhKarke. His 649 runs this season, leadership, and ability to anchor the innings make him GT's best chance today.' I can bet on **Shubman Gill**, #AankhBandhKarke I'd be confident in his ability to anchor the innings with his 649 runs this season. His leadership and consistency make him Gujarat Titans' best chance to ensure that Gujarat doesn't get eliminated today. #AankhBandhKarkeLeLo With knockout pressure high and key players in form, this IPL 2025 Eliminator could be decided by smart captaincy and early breakthroughs. In Eliminator of 18th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL 2025), five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) will lock horns with one-time winner Gujarat Titans (GT) at the new PCA Stadium in Mullanpur, Chandigarh on Friday. Gujarat hold a clear psychological edge over Mumbai, leading their head-to-head record 5-2. They have beaten MI twice this season and, notably, eliminated them in Qualifier 2 of IPL 2023 in Ahmedabad—reinforcing their dominance in high-pressure clashes against the five-time champions. This time, they face off again in the playoffs—but with a dramatic reversal of roles, as Hardik now leads MI against his former side. In that 2023 clash, Shubman Gill's century had powered GT into the final. To keep their title hopes alive, MI must overcome this trend in the high-stakes Eliminator, particularly against Gujarat Titans, who have already beaten them twice this season. Breaking this jinx against top-tier opposition will be key to their campaign. GT will miss Jos Buttler—who scored 538 runs at a strike rate of 163—a significant setback, while the absence of Kagiso Rabada (2 wickets, economy 11.6) is less impactful. MI, meanwhile, are without Ryan Rickelton (388 runs, SR 151) and Will Jacks (233 runs, 6 wickets). These losses will put both teams' squad depth and adaptability to the test in this high-pressure Eliminator.
