Ex-CSK Wicketkeeper To Replace Rishabh Pant In Indian Team For 5th ENG Test: Report

Narayan Jagadeesan is a wicketkeeper-batter from Tamil Nadu. In 52 first-class matches played so far, he has scored 3373 runs. Former Chennai Super Kings wicketkeeper-batter Narayan Jagadeesan is reportedly set to replace Rishabh Pant in India's squad for the fifth and final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Pant suffered a foot injury on Wednesday (July 23), and due to that, he will miss the fifth Test of the ongoing five-match series between India and England. The fifth Test is scheduled to take place at The Oval from July 31 to August 4. According to a report in Cricbuzz on Thursday (July 24), 'The right-handed keeper batter from Tamil Nadu is almost certain to be added to the squad. An announcement is expected soon." 'The selectors and the team management were looking at Ishan Kishan as a potential option and it later emerged that the 27-year-old keeper from Jharkhand is not available," the report added. Ishan, who last played a Test match for India in July 2023 against the West Indies in Port of Spain, according to a report in Times of India, is dealing with an ankle injury and has 10 stitches on his left foot after he fell from a scooty. 'Ishan has suffered an ankle injury and has ten stitches on his left foot after he fell from a scooty," a source tracking the development was quoted as saying by TOI on Thursday. 'Selectors did reach out to Ishan, but only on Thursday. His stitches have been removed, and he currently has a plaster on his left ankle," the source added. Jagadeesan has played a total of 52 first-class matches so far and has scored 3373 runs. His batting average is 47.50 and he has 10 centuries and 14 half-centuries to his credit. In the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy season, he scored 674 runs in eight matches for Tamil Nadu. His batting average was 56.16 and he crossed the 100-run mark twice in addition to scoring five fifties. Among wicketkeeper-batter's only Vidarbha's Akshay Wadkar (722 runs at 45.12 in 10 matches) scored more runs than him. Jagadeesan's record in IPL In the cash-rich Indian Premier League, Jagadeesan has played a total of 13 matches for two teams—Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders. In seven matches for CSK across two seasons, he scored 73 runs, and in six matches for KKR in IPL 2023, he amassed a total of 89 runs. view comments First Published: July 24, 2025, 17:30 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. ‘Not greedy for records': Rishabh Pant shuts down Harry Brook's ‘What's your fastest 100' swipe while batting

England were in to have a taste of their own medicine as India continued to pile on the runs during the second innings of the Edgbaston Test, prompting batter Harry Brook to switch to mind games to try and derail wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant during his enthralling boundary-fest on Saturday. Brook's cheeky swipe received a firm response from Pant, who refused to be swayed by the Englishman's question between deliveries. Brook attempted to get into Pant's mind, quizzing him about his fastest Test hundred. 'In Test cricket, maybe 80-90 minutes,' replied Pant after Brook popped the 'What's your fastest 100' question. Brook intriguingly chose to remind Pant of his fastest hundred in 55 balls that came in the IPL 2023 season with the SunRisers Hyderabad. 'The fastest hundred I have ever done in 55 balls; you can do that today,' said Brook as he attempted to egg on the India wicket-keeper to switch into ultra-aggression and commit a mistake. 'It's okay. Not very greedy for records. If it happens, it happens,' a level-headed Pant responded. Records? #RishabhPant's reply will win your respect. 🙌#HarryBrook asked about the fastest hundred and Pant's response was pure humility. 💯✨#ENGvIND 👉 2nd TEST, Day 4 | LIVE NOW on JioHotstar ➡ — Star Sports (@StarSportsIndia) July 5, 2025 Pant proceeded to smear a quick-fire half-century, scoring 65 off 58 balls with eight fours and three sixes. Led by captain Shubman Gill's second century of the match, a blazing 161 of 162 deliveries, India set a colossal 608-run target for England. Pant, who has struck six fifty-plus scores in his last seven innings in England, broke a heap of big-hitting records during the innings. Pant became the first Asian wicket-keeper to record 2000 runs in SENA Tests. The left-hander has struck 23 sixes in Tests in England, the most by any batter in an away country. Pant shored up his career Test sixes to 86. Only Virender Sehwag (90) and Rohit Sharma (88) have recorded more sixes in the format for India. Brook and England will now have to do the heavy lifting on the final day with Pant behind the stumps, as the hosts slipped to 72 for three on Day 4. With 536 runs required for victory, England will resume play with first-innings centurion Brook and Ollie Pope at the crease.

Rishabh Pant Trolls Harry Brook On-Field Over Fastest 100 Jibe: 'Not Very Greedy...'

Last Updated: Rishabh Pant has trolled Harry Brook after playing a quickfire innings in the 2nd Test against England. India's Test vice-captain Rishabh Pant was heard on Saturday, July 6, slyly trolling Harry Brook after the latter suggested that he could have smacked a 55-ball hundred, much like him after Pant went all guns blazing ever since he came onto the crease. India skipper Shubman Gill shared a 110-run partnership with Pant, who showed breathtaking strokeplay and departed fittingly as he lost control of his bat in an attempt to whack Shoaib Bashir out of the park. In the morning session, KL Rahul lost his middle stump to a beauty from Josh Tongue before Pant made the morning session more entertaining with his inimitable strokeplay. 'What's your fastest 100?" Brook asked. 'Test cricket? 80-90 minutes," Pant replied. 'The fastest I have done is 55 balls. You could have done that today," Brook said. 'It's okay, not very greedy for records. If it happens, it happens," Pant replied. Records? #RishabhPant 's reply will win your respect. 🙌 #HarryBrook asked about the fastest hundred and Pant's response was pure humility. 💯✨ #ENGvIND 👉 2nd TEST, Day 4 | LIVE NOW on JioHotstar ➡ — Star Sports (@StarSportsIndia) July 5, 2025 Brook scored a 55-ball hundred for the Sunrisers Hyderabad against the Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2023. Pant came out in the 30th over and went ballistic from the get-go. Rinku Singh set to be appointed as Basic Education Officer in Uttar Pradesh; What's BSA? Know eligibility, salary & more

Indian cricketer Rinku Singh is set to be appointed as a Basic Education Officer (BSA) in Uttar Pradesh. The development comes in after Rinku got engaged with Samajwadi Party MP Priya Saroj recently. Based on a Dainik Jagran report, a notification has already been issues by the Director of Basic Education in the state with his paperwork underway. The appointment of Rinku as a BSA is a reward to his contributions to cricket over the last few years. After grabbing the limelight in IPL 2023 for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Rinku went on to represent the Indian team. He was also a part of the Indian team that won gold medal at the Asia Games in Hangzhou, China. Notably, the position of BSA is solely reserved for athletes who have made the country proud at the international level. Rinku's appointment also aligns with the state's policy to include individuals from sports into public service roles. However, his appointment has raised a few eyebrows, especially in regards to his educational qualification. According to a ETV Bharat report, Rinku failed in the ninth grade and didn't study after that. Instead he gave his all for cricket. A BSA acts as a government's representative in the area of basic education and works as a district level. It is a Group B (Gazetted) post and is common in all the state governments. Candidates, who fall in the age bracket of 21 to 40 years in the year of examination, are eligible for the post of a BSA. The basic education required for the post of BSA is graduation in any discipline from any recognised university or institution. The candidates for the post of a BSA are selected by State Public Service Commission (State PSCs) of the concerned state. Despite not having educational qualification by his side, Rinku was appointed as a BSA on under the International Medal Winner Direct Recruitment Rules 2022. Rinku's involvement in the gold medal-winning triumphant Indian cricket team at the 2022 Asian Games, makes him eligible under the scheme. According to a News18 report, Rinku might draw a salary of around ₹ 56000 per month, which may increase with experience and annual increments. Additionally, he will receive 46% Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, Travel Allowance, and several other benefits.
