Rinku Singh set to be appointed as Basic Education Officer in Uttar Pradesh; What's BSA? Know eligibility, salary & more
Indian cricketer Rinku Singh is set to be appointed as a Basic Education Officer (BSA) in Uttar Pradesh. The development comes in after Rinku got engaged with Samajwadi Party MP Priya Saroj recently. Based on a Dainik Jagran report, a notification has already been issues by the Director of Basic Education in the state with his paperwork underway.
The appointment of Rinku as a BSA is a reward to his contributions to cricket over the last few years. After grabbing the limelight in IPL 2023 for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Rinku went on to represent the Indian team. He was also a part of the Indian team that won gold medal at the Asia Games in Hangzhou, China.
Notably, the position of BSA is solely reserved for athletes who have made the country proud at the international level. Rinku's appointment also aligns with the state's policy to include individuals from sports into public service roles.
However, his appointment has raised a few eyebrows, especially in regards to his educational qualification. According to a ETV Bharat report, Rinku failed in the ninth grade and didn't study after that. Instead he gave his all for cricket.
A BSA acts as a government's representative in the area of basic education and works as a district level. It is a Group B (Gazetted) post and is common in all the state governments. Candidates, who fall in the age bracket of 21 to 40 years in the year of examination, are eligible for the post of a BSA.
The basic education required for the post of BSA is graduation in any discipline from any recognised university or institution. The candidates for the post of a BSA are selected by State Public Service Commission (State PSCs) of the concerned state.
Despite not having educational qualification by his side, Rinku was appointed as a BSA on under the International Medal Winner Direct Recruitment Rules 2022. Rinku's involvement in the gold medal-winning triumphant Indian cricket team at the 2022 Asian Games, makes him eligible under the scheme.
According to a News18 report, Rinku might draw a salary of around ₹ 56000 per month, which may increase with experience and annual increments. Additionally, he will receive 46% Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, Travel Allowance, and several other benefits.

Smriti Mandhana expresses happiness over Shafalis comeback ahead of 1st England T20I
Nottingham [UK], June 27 (ANI): Ahead of her side's first T20I against England in Nottingham, Indian vice-captain and opener Smriti Mandhana hailed opener Shafali Verma for going back to the domestic grind after being dropped and earning herself a comeback to the national side. The Indian women's team will kickstart their white-ball series against England at Nottingham, starting with the first of five T20Is at Nottingham on Saturday. This match will mark Shafali's return to Team India, who last donned the national colours on October 29 last year and was dropped due to poor form. Since then, Shafali has done a lot of hard work in domestic and franchise cricket circuit. She played 50-over domestic over competitions, captaining Haryana to quarterfinal finish in the Senior Women's One Day Trophy, topping the run-charts with 527 runs at an average of 75 and strike rate of over 152. Then she featured in a crucial Senior Women's One Day Challengers Trophy, earlier in January this year, she dominated the charts, as the Team A skipper, scoring 414 runs at an average of 82.80, with a strike rate of over 145, with a century and two fifties. Nobody scored at a higher pace in the competition and scored close to 200 runs than the next best, D Vrinda (217 runs). Then, coming to the Women's Premier League (WPL), while Delhi Capitals (DC) made a heartbreaking hat-trick of runners-up finishes, Shafali's form was a massive positive as she was team's top run-getter and fourth-overall, with 304 runs in nine innings at an average of 38.00 and a strike rate of over 152, with a half-century. As the road to the home 2025 ICC Women's Cricket World Cup (from September 30) and 2026 Women's T20 World Cup starts, this series is a massive chance for Shafali to send a reminder to the selectors of why she should be the primary choice. In her absence, Pratika Rawal featured in 11 ODIs, scoring 638 runs at an average of 63.80 with a century and five fifties, at a strike rate of almost 90. Speaking ahead of the match in the pre-match presser, Smriti said, "She has had an amazing year. After her setback, she went back to domestic and scored a bucketful of runs. She had a great WPL as well. No one had any doubts about her talent. The way she had come into the Indian team and dominated, she is a world-class player and always will be. For her to go back and do what she did was amazing to see. She deserves this comeback, and I am excited to open with her again." India's T20I Squad: Harmanpreet Kaur (C), Smriti Mandhana (VC), Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Richa Ghosh (WK), Yastika Bhatia (WK), Harleen Deol, Deepti Sharma, Sneh Rana, Sree Charani, Amanjot Kaur, Arundhati Reddy, Kranti Gaud, Sayali Satghare, Radha Yadav India's ODI Squad: Harmanpreet Kaur (C), Smriti Mandhana (VC), Pratika Rawal, Harleen Deol, Jemimah Rodrigues, Richa Ghosh (WK), Yastika Bhatia (WK), Tejal Hasabnis, Deepti Sharma, Sneh Rana, Sree Charani, Amanjot Kaur, Arundhati Reddy, Kranti Gaud, Sayali Satghare, Radha Yadav. Bumrah absent from India's first practice session at Edgbaston; Siraj seen polishing batting skills: Report
Jasprit Bumrah is expected to miss the second Test against England that gets underway at Edgbaston on 2 July. Also missing from Friday's practice session in Birmingham was fellow seamer Prasidh Krishna, who had proven expensive in the series opener in Leeds. read more India pacer Jasprit Bumrah at a training session at Headingley, Leeds ahead of the final day of the first Test against England. AP Jasprit Bumrah is reportedly set to miss the second Test against England in Birmingham that gets underway next Wednesday, after collecting a five-for in the series opener in Leeds. And while the Indian team is yet to officially confirm the star pacer's absence from the second Test, Bumrah's absence from Friday's practice session at Edgbaston certainly did raise eyebrows. And it wasn't just Bumrah who was missing in action on Friday; seamer Prasidh Krishna – who had collected five wickets at Headingley while conceding more than six runs an over in both innings – also wasn't part of the practice session on Friday, according to The Times of India. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD It was the Shubman Gill-led team's first practice session since their five-wicket defeat at Headingley, where lost despite being in a dominant position at multiple stages of the game and eventually failed to defend a target of 371. Siraj works on his batting; Arshdeep bowls to Gill While Bumrah will likely sit out of the second game at Edgbaston in order to stay fresh for the third Test at Lord's in London, Prasidh was expected to be retained in the attack, with seam-bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur likely getting benched after failing to make an impact with bat and proving expensive with the ball. Senior pacer Mohammed Siraj, who was erratic at Headingley, was seen working on his batting at the nets with batting coach Sitanshu Kotak, especially on leaving and ducking. India had suffered twin batting collapses at Headingley, losing a combined 13 wickets for just 72 runs, and captain Shubman Gill and head coach Gautam Gambhir will be eager to rectify this area of concern in their quest for a series-leveling victory in Birmingham. Meanwhile, left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh, who had received a maiden Test call-up last month with the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee unveiled India's squad, had an extended session with bowling coach Morne Morkel in the nets on Friday. An established star in the T20I circuit who has also been impressive in ODIs, Arshdeep was overlooked for the series opener in Leeds, but might get his maiden cap in Birmingham with Bumrah likely to sit out, unless Akash Deep beats him to the slot come Wednesday.
