Sonia Gandhi slams PM Modi's ‘shameful silence' on Gaza crisis; 'height of moral cowardice,' says Kharge
Congress parliamentary party leader Sonia Gandhi has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of adopting a "shameful silence" on Israel's military action in the Palestinian territory. In her article published in Hindi newspaper Dainik Jagran, Gandhi said the Gaza conflict had "exposed one of the most serious vulnerabilities in the Global order and called on the Prime Minister to speak up against the killing of more than 55,000 Palestinians, including 17,000 children, in the territory. Gandhi recalled how in 1974, under the leadership of Indira Gandhi, India became the first non-Arab country to recognise the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) as the sole and legitimate representative of the Palestinian people. She also said that in the article in 1988, India was among the first countries to officially recognise the State of Palestine. The former Congress president urged Modi, thus, to speak out "clearly, boldly and forthrightly" on behalf of the legacy that India has long represented. Sonia also reiterated India being a "symbol of global justice" and inspiring anti-colonial movements, while raising a voice against imperialism, and specifically being a supporter of the two-state solution. She criticised the lack of action on United Nations General Assembly resolutions calling for a permanent and unconditional ceasefire, saying these have been "completely ignored." "But as members of the international community — and more so as human beings — it is our responsibility to acknowledge that the Israeli government's response and reprisals against the civilian population of Gaza have not only been egregious, but downright criminal," Sonia Gandhi wrote in her article titled – 'Gaza sankat par mookdarshak Modi sarkaar' ('Modi government a mute spectator amid Gaza tragedy'). Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge repeated the views of Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, accusing the Modi government of being a "silent spectator in the Gaza crisis." It is our responsibility to acknowledge that the Israeli government's response has been downright criminal. In a post on X sharing a picture of the newspaper article, Kharge said, "This is the height of moral cowardice. The time has come for him to raise a strong voice, in clear and bold words, on behalf of the legacy that India has represented. Today, the Global South is once again awaiting India's leadership on this issue that shakes the collective conscience of all humanity."

Karisma Kapoor Reportedly Stakes Claim In Ex-Husband Sunjay Kapur's Rs 30,000 Crore Inheritance
Karisma Kapoor may seek a share in ex-husband Sunjay Kapur's ₹30,000 crore estate. His mother raises questions about his death and the inheritance dispute. Nearly a month after the sudden passing of industrialist Sunjay Kapur—former husband of Bollywood actor Karisma Kapoor—new developments have surfaced surrounding a staggering ₹30,000 crore property dispute. Kapur, who served as the chairman of Sona Comstar, died on June 12 in what was initially described as a cardiac arrest, but the circumstances of his death are now facing mounting scrutiny from his own family. Adding to the unfolding drama, a Dainik Jagran report suggests that Karisma Kapoor may also be exploring a legal claim to a share of his vast estate. Previously, according to a report by Sunjay Kapur's mother, Rani Kapur, has claimed that she holds the majority stake in the Sona Group and is the rightful heir to the family's estate. In the lead-up to Sona Comstar's Annual General Meeting (AGM), she alleged that attempts were being made to take over the legacy and emphasized that she had not authorised anyone to act on her behalf within the company. Meanwhile, a Dainik Jagran report suggested that Karisma Kapoor, who was married to Sunjay from 2003 to 2016 and shares two children with him—Samaira and Kiaan—may also be seeking a share in his estate. However, no official statement has been released by Karisma or her representatives regarding this. The dispute has grown more complex as Rani Kapur has publicly questioned the official version of her son's passing. Speaking through her legal counsel, senior advocate Vaibhav Gaggar, she raised concerns that her son's death might not have been caused by a heart attack, as initially stated. 'For my client, as a mother, it's deeply painful to watch this being dismissed as a mere freak accident and cardiac arrest. The truth doesn't match the headlines. She will not stay silent until that truth is acknowledged," said Gaggar to ANI. Further raising eyebrows, Rani Kapur also alleged that she was coerced into signing certain documents under duress shortly after Sunjay's death. She has formally requested the cancellation of the AGM scheduled for today and warned against the appointment of new board directors amid the unresolved conflict. Although no legal proceedings have been launched yet, her counsel confirmed that a request to defer the AGM has been made, and all legal options remain on the table. Sunjay Kapur's final rites took place on June 19 at Lodhi Road Cremation Ground in South Delhi, attended by family members and close friends. Following his divorce from Karisma Kapoor, Sunjay married Priya Sachdev, with whom he had a son, Azarias.
