Former President Joe Biden rambled through an October 2023 interview with special counsel Robert Hur — repeatedly losing his train of thought and struggling to recall key details of his political and personal life, including when his son died, newly released audio of the sitdown shows.
'Well, um, I, I, I, I, I, I don't know,' Biden, then 80, responded to one question about where he would store papers related to his post-vice presidential work at the Penn Biden Center, his memoir 'Promise Me, Dad' and the Cancer Moonshot initiative.
Biden sat down with Hur and co-counsel Marc Krickbaum Oct. 8-9 as part of a probe ordered by then-Attorney General Merrick Garland into the 46th president's unlawful retention of national security papers from his time as Barack Obama's No. 2, as well as a senator from Delaware.
The Biden administration had refused to release the audio tapes of the interviews with Hur, which were obtained by Axios on Friday, arguing that they contained protected 'law enforcement materials.'

Democrats' delusions go far deeper than Biden — but will the party ever learn?
If you haven't read the new book by CNN's Jake Tapper and Axios's Alex Thompson, 'Original Sin,' you should. The book details how former President Biden's top aides, advisers and media contacts lied to the American people about the president's fitness for office and his suitability as a candidate, and argues that this series of cover-ups is ultimately responsible for President Trump's 2024 victory. If its revelations are even half true (and there is every reason to believe they are truer than that), this book should chill and sober Democrats, independents and anyone else who would prefer an alternative to Trump's GOP. 'Original Sin: President Biden's Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again' raises one profound question with implications that extend far beyond 2024 or even 2028: Why did top Democrats think that they not only could but should shoehorn a sadly diminished and dangerously unfit Biden into a second presidential term? Here's one answer: Democrats' perception of their own virtue has somehow become inextricable from their unwillingness to acknowledge reality as it actually is, rather than as they would like it to be. It would have been quite convenient if Biden circa 2024 was in fact indistinguishable from Biden circa 2016 or even 2020. The fact that this was obviously not the case did not deter Democrats' insistence on it as not just true but unquestionable. The depth of this problem for the party cannot be overstated. The definitional tic of today's Democrats is a belligerent unwillingness (which ultimately seems to beget a helpless inability) to acknowledge any truth that they find inconvenient or troubling. Here's what I'm talking about: Many Democrats will still maintain that Michael Brown had his hands up when Darren Wilson shot him. They will still argue that coronavirus could not have come from a lab in China, and they will maintain that it fully warranted the closing of schools. They hold fast to the idea that traditional masculinity and 'cisgender' normativity are social constructs that can ultimately be eradicated via progressive social programming. They will not abandon the notion that biologically male transgender athletes may fairly compete as female athletes. Many influential Democrats remain unwilling or unable to acknowledge that each of these statements has been proven demonstrably false. The sad irony, of course, is that elite Democrats' insistence on collective delusion with respect to such matters leads, inevitably, exactly where their lies about Biden did: to reactionary backlash. Because they did not insist on a timely, competitive primary to replace Biden, the U.S is stuck with Trump. Because they did not correct the lies and check the excesses of Black Lives Matter and its apologists in K-12 and higher education, we are left with decreased public safety and increased racial tensions. Because they did not ask the correct questions about COVID but parroted the mantra 'trust the science' in response to answers from those who did, we are left with an academic achievement gap that will disproportionately affect low-income, non-white students for the rest of their lives. Because they did not concede the biological facts of dimorphic sex and of characterological and psychological differences between most men and most women, we are left with decreasing societal acceptance for homosexual Americans and misogynistic attempts to regressively erase intragroup variance among women. I know that many of my fellow Democrats are primed to reply: 'But that's not fair! They are the ones who elected Trump, and who are harboring these racists and misogynists, and you blame us?' Well, yes. Here's why: By denying realities they find unsavory, Democrats leave any legitimate claim of truth to Republicans. And MAGA embraces that truth — with a literal vengeance. The Republicans' manner of denying reality is to wildly overstate it. So, for today's manosphere, for example, women are not just different from men on average, but so entirely unlike men that they should all, when possible, reflexively eschew any professional ambition in favor of 'tradwifery.' If Democrats did not deny fundamental truths altogether, fewer people would accept Republicans' bastardizations of them. Can Tapper and Thompson's book be positioned as one that uses Biden as a case study to help Democrats see that we gain nothing by denying reality, and behave accordingly? I hope so. Because the truth will out. And it would be really good for the country if that most fundamental reality of all did not so overwhelmingly favor today's patently cruel and often incompetent Republican Party. The One Big Beautiful Bill Act delivers for America. Now the Senate Must Deliver Too.

(Concho Valley Homepage) — The House of Representatives has delivered on the American people's mandate by passing the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, the most comprehensive and consequential set of conservative reforms in our nation's history. This transformative package includes record levels of tax cuts, spending reduction, and border and national security investment. The ball is now in the Senate's court and their mission is simple: move the One Big Beautiful Bill to the president's desk as soon as possible. This legislation delivers a historic tax cut and $5,000 raise for the average American family to provide immediate relief to working households struggling after four years of economic mismanagement under the Biden administration. It permanently expands the 2017 Trump tax break for small businesses, the backbone of our economy, and enhances incentives for American companies to invest, grow and raise worker wages for decades to come. The bill's impact extends beyond the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act by providing additional relief to lower- and middle-income Americans by eliminating taxes on tips, exempting overtime pay and doubling the tax credit for seniors on a fixed income. Additionally, we support working families by increasing the child tax credit to $2,500 per family, making interest on car loans tax deductible and expanding health savings accounts. We're strengthening America's security by investing $46 billion to complete President Trump's border wall and hiring 18,000 new immigration enforcement personnel to detain and deport at least 1 million illegal immigrants annually. We're committing almost $150 billion to rebuild America's military, including $34 billion to revitalize our naval fleet and $25 billion for missile defense. Furthermore, we're unleashing American energy dominance by opening federal lands for drilling, reducing the regulatory stranglehold on conventional fuels, and eliminating hundreds of billions in green new deal subsidies that have made U.S. energy more expensive and less reliable. And we're accomplishing all of this while reducing spending by $1.6 trillion, the largest spending reform package in American history by two-fold. This isn't just fiscal responsibility; it's the beginning of a generational reset that will restore America's financial health. At every stage of this process, Democrats have resorted to fear-mongering and false claims to undermine this critical legislation. So desperate to derail the bill, they manipulated Congressional Budget Office analyses to mislead the American people about the outcomes of the One Big Beautiful Bill. They use the fact that we prohibit illegal immigrants and able-bodied adults who refuse to work from receiving taxpayer-funded welfare services to fallaciously suggest that vulnerable people are being 'ripped away' from the social safety net. Furthermore, they deliberately cherry-pick CBO data to spread the false narrative that our tax cuts only benefit the wealthy. Never mind the fact that CBO's own data confirm that American households in every tax bracket would see increased after-tax income under our legislation. The left knows they can't convince the American people on the substance of this bill, so they have resorted to fabrications. The Senate now holds America's economic future in its hands. The House spent months developing a balanced budget reconciliation bill that advances every pillar of the America First vision, including restoring our nation's fiscal health by reining in the runaway spending and reducing our debt-to-GDP ratio. While the Senate may be able to make modest improvements, they must resist the temptation to significantly alter this carefully crafted legislation. Any major changes risk upsetting the delicate balance struck in the House and derailing President Trump's America First agenda. In fact, every day the Senate delays this process is another day closer to tax hikes for working families, uncertainty for small businesses, and a military and border patrol lacking the resources they need to be successful. The American people gave President Trump and unified Republican leadership a clear mandate to reverse course on the failures of the last four years — they expect action, not endless deliberation. The House has delivered. Now it's time for the Senate to meet this moment with the urgency it demands. America's next Golden Age is within reach — but Republicans must come together in order for us to seize it. States sue US government over deal ending ban on triggers that make some rifles fire more rapidly
Sixteen states have sued the Trump administration over its plan to allow the sale of forced-reset triggers that make semiautomatic rifles fire more rapidly and return devices already seized to their owners. The suit announced Monday argues that returning the triggers would violate federal law, pose a threat to residents and law enforcement and worsen gun violence. It was filed in federal court in Maryland. There had been several legal battles over the devices, which replace the typical trigger on an AR-15-style rifle. The Biden administration had previously argued the triggers qualify as machine guns under federal law because constant finger pressure on the triggers will keep a rifle firing, essentially creating an illegal machine gun. Rare Breed Triggers, the maker of the devices, had argued that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives was wrong in its classification and ignored demands to stop selling the triggers before being sued by the Biden administration. The Justice Department reached a deal announced last month to allow the sale of forced-reset triggers with Rare Breed Triggers, which was previously represented by David Warrington, Trump's current White House counsel. Under the settlement, Rare Breed Triggers agreed not to develop such devices to be used on handguns, according to the Justice Department. The settlement requires the ATF to return triggers that it had seized or that owners had voluntarily surrendered to the government. The states' lawsuit is being led by the attorneys general of Delaware, Maryland and New Jersey. Other states involved are Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington, along with the District of Columbia.
