Wadsworth flourishing in sophomore season with USF
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — From small town South Dakota to Division II basketball, Kami Wadsworth has made a name for herself at the University of Sioux Falls in just her sophomore season.
Wadsworth was a mutil-year starter and standout at Hamlin High School. She scored nearly 1,900 points and in her senior season, won a state title, while being named the 2023 KELOLAND Sports Girls Basketball Player of the Year.
'I couldn't think or describe a better feeling on the way to go out other than on top,' Wadsworth said. 'It was quite a season.'
All of that success brought attention to Wadsworth at a young age, including USF and head coach Travis Traphagen.
'I thought she'd be a good player when we got her and we got her really early,' Traphagen said. 'I had no idea that she'd be what she is now.'
The first step was adjusting to the college game. Kami spent hours in the gym, reshaping her approach to fit USF's game plan.
'Coach Trap wanted me to work a lot on my face up game. Getting into the pro-post, where I could use my speed and quickness to get around, instead of more back to the basket,' Wadsworth said.
Wadsworth was named NSIC Freshman of the Year last season, but that was just the beginning. Kami is scoring 18 points per game, four more than a season ago. She's also shooting an impressive 47% from the field and 45% from beyond the arch.
'I think the game has slowed down a little bit for sure. Definitely knowing where the doubles are coming from or gelling with this team,' Wadsworth said.
'She's got a lot better on the glass. She's shooting the basketball well and she's passing it,' Traphagen said. 'Every coach should be biased, but I just think with the type of teammate she is, the work ethic and this and that… I wouldn't trade her for another post player in this league.'
Wadsworth and the Cougars are in the hunt for a top four spot in the NSIC. They'll play at Northern State and U-Mary.

A weekend in the water with Parks & Rec
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A pair of weekend events from Sioux Falls Parks & Recreation will have competitors hitting the water. Lexann Littau is visiting from Wyoming and spending the morning water walking at Midco Aquatic Center. Pride fests and protests make for busy Sioux Falls weekend 'At my age, it's good for the joints, it's a lot easier, the impact's a lot easier on your joints,' Wyoming resident Lexann Littau said. What about walking laps against the current of the lazy river? 'Obviously, more challenging, but again, at my age, it's just a good thing to keep moving because if you don't move, you lose it,' Littau said. Sioux Falls Parks & Recreation is hosting the first Lazy 5K of summer this Saturday at Drake Springs Aquatic Center, and it's not as easy as the name suggests. 'It's a lot harder than what you'd think, it's more of a workout than a lot of people would realize,' recreation coordinator Adam Livermore said. Adam Livermore is a recreation coordinator with Parks & Rec and says it's a 5K — 44 laps — but you don't have to do it alone. 'You can do a two- or four-person relay, so break it up, get some friends together and do it that way too,' Livermore said. You're also encouraged to set sail with the Great Cardboard Boat Race on Sunday at Kuehn Park Pool. 'Sign up, build a boat, cardboard and duct tape only,' Livermore said. 'So (no) wood, fiberglass, anything like that, we try to keep an even playing field, so whatever corrugated cardboard you want to use and then duct tape,' Livermore added. If your vessel isn't seaworthy, there is an award for the quickest to sink. 'Every now and again, we have one that doesn't make it very far or it capsizes right away,' Livermore said. One of the many reasons is that there will be lifeguards on hand. Registration is required for both events. The Lazy 5K is Saturday night from 7:00 to 9:00 at Drake Springs Aquatic Center. The cost is $20. The Great Cardboard Boat Race is Sunday morning at Kuehn Park Pool. Check-in begins at 9:00, followed by the race at 10:00. This event is free. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Report: Jazz hosted predraft workout with potential first-round target
Report: Jazz hosted predraft workout with potential first-round target Former Texas guard Tre Johnson reportedly attended a workout with the Utah Jazz ahead of the 2025 NBA draft, according to Sarah Todd of the Deseret News. Johnson was named the SEC Freshman of the Year last season, averaging 19.9 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 33 games on 39.7% shooting from 3-point range. He was the 10th player in program history to be honored as Freshman of the Year. The 6-foot-5 standout is considered a potential top-five pick and a possible target of the Jazz with the fifth overall selection. He recently visited the Jazz, his first known workout. University of Texas guard Tre Johnson went through a predraft workout with the Utah Jazz last week, according to league sources. Johnson, 19, is widely expected to be a top-5 pick, but could go as high at No. 3 in the June 25 draft. Johnson scored in double figures in all but two games, becoming the sixth freshman in history to lead the SEC in scoring average. He finished with the highest scoring average by a Longhorns player since J'Covan Brown in the 2011-12 season (20.1). The 19-year-old is highly touted because of his dynamic scoring ability and potential to pull up from all over the court. He dazzled on offense by creating for himself and hitting difficult shots on the move or with his patented step-backs and side-steps. In addition to Johnson, the Jazz have also hosted workouts with projected first-rounders Nique Clifford (Colorado State), Drake Powell (North Carolina) and Jase Richardson (Michigan State). They hold pick Nos. 21, 43 and 53 in the draft on June 25-26 in Brooklyn, New York.
