Judge denies motion to dismiss mob action charge for U of I student protestor
Champaign County State's Attorney Julia Rietz said nine people were charged after a U of I Police investigation into the protests.
She also said, in many cases, defendants were charged with both the felony mob action charge and with misdemeanor resisting a peace officer. The newer misdemeanor charge against Issa could work in her favor if her case plays out similarly to other defendants who faced the same charges.
'There have been already two people who plead guilty, and the agreement in those cases was they plead guilty to the misdemeanor resisting case,' Rietz said. 'The minimum sentence for resisting is, generally speaking, 100 hours of public service work and court costs, so those two people who plead guilty accepted that agreement for conditional discharge and public service work, and in exchange we dismissed the felony count.'
The felony charge carries a punishment of up to three years in prison. Like Rietz said, of the nine people charged, two plead guilty to the misdemeanor charge in exchange for dismissal of the felony charge.
She said one person had their case dismissed after reviewing U of I police evidence, public service involvement and taking accountability for their actions.

(WCIA) — State Police clarified that the investigation in Sibley Tuesday night was in response to a report of a person walking through fields in the area. Wednesday morning, State Police confirmed with WCIA that officers responded to the area of IL-165 near the McLean/Ford County line just after 7 p.m. after they received the report. They then searched the area for several hours, but no one was located. There is no further information available at this time. FORD COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — Members of the public are being asked to avoid IL-165 in the Sibley area as law enforcement conduct an 'investigation.' The Illinois State Police said they, along with multiple local agencies are responding in Sibley, near the McLean and Ford County line. State Police said members of the public should also be aware of potential road closures in the area. Possible sighting of David Jordan reported in Sibley; ‘avoid the area,' State Police says
SIBLEY, Ill. (WCIA) — The search for David Jordan, the man accused of shooting two Ford County law enforcement officers over the weekend, continues Wednesday afternoon as another possible sighting was reported to State Police. State Police confirmed with WCIA at 4:22 p.m. that they are actively looking for Jordan and searching the area of IL-47 near Ford County 1100 N Road in Sibley. Multiple other law enforcement agencies are assisting in the search. UPDATE: Sibley investigation was for report of person walking in fields; no one found yet State Police added that there is 'no immediate threat to the public,' but they ask that everyone avoids the area at this time to give law enforcement space while they continue to work. Jordan has been on the run since the early morning hours of Saturday, Aug. 9. Around 2:30 a.m. that day, Gibson City Police officers and Ford County Sheriff's deputies responded to the area of Ash Street and Sangamon Avenue for reports of a naked 70-year-old man, who was later identified as Jordan. When officers attempted to make contact with Jordan at his residence, he allegedly opened fire on them, injuring a police officer and a deputy. Shortly after the shooting, the house caught fire. On Tuesday night, there was a heavy police presence in Sibley while State Police investigated a report of a person walking through the fields. After several hours of searching, no one was found. The search in that area resumed Wednesday afternoon and is ongoing. A WCIA reporter on the scene said officers have been searching the area for around four hours now.
