Crystal Palace in talks to sign PSV goalkeeper Walter Benitez on free transfer
Crystal Palace are in discussions with PSV goalkeeper Walter Benitez over a move to the Premier League.
Benitez, 32, will be out of contract with PSV later this month and is yet to sign a new deal, meaning he is free to discuss a move with interested clubs. Palace have entered talks with the goalkeeper to bring him to south London.

The FA Cup winners are looking for a third senior goalkeeper with Matt Turner's season-long loan from Nottingham Forest ending. Turner, the USMNT goalkeeper, is expected to join Ligue 1 side Lyon after they agreed an €8million (£6.74m) with Forest.
Remi Matthews, who was third choice behind No 1 goalkeeper Dean Henderson and Turner, and who featured once for Palace last season, has extended his contract. Should he sign, then Benitez is likely to come in as competition and cover behind Henderson.
Argentinian goalkeeper Benitez spent six seasons at French club Nice, where he made 188 appearances.
He joined PSV in the summer of 2022 on a free transfer and has made 134 appearances for the Dutch club. During his three seasons in the Netherlands, Benitez has won trophies with PSV, including back-to-back league titles in 2024 and 2025.
The most recent league victory came as a result of Ajax's collapse in the title run-in. Ajax blowing a nine-point lead at the top of the table led to PSV Eindhoven winning the Dutch title on a tense final day in the Eredivisie in May.
Benitez earned one cap for Argentina in March 2024 and has made his national team's bench regularly, supporting No 1 goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.

Boca Juniors defender Ayrton Costa to miss Club World Cup after being denied US visa
BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) — Boca Juniors defender Ayrton Costa will miss the Club World Cup after he was denied a visa to enter the United States, the Argentine team said Thursday. Costa did not make the trip to Miami with his teammates on Sunday because his visa application was still being processed at the U.S. embassy in Buenos Aires, but he was still included on the roster to play in the tournament that starts Saturday. Boca Juniors confirmed that the 25-year-old Costa was denied a visa, but did not provide details on the reasons. Costa was involved in a criminal case over an attempted robbery in 2018 in Bernal, Argentina. His absence leaves coach Miguel Russo without one of his expected starters for the match against Benfica on Monday in the team's Group C opener. The group also includes Bayern Munich and Auckland City of New Zealand. Also, defender Marco Pellegrino, who signed ahead of the Club World Cup, is recovering from a muscle tear. With Costa out, veteran Marcos Rojo is expected to start. The defender signed with Boca Juniors last January after a brief stint with Belgium's Royal Antwerp. ___ AP soccer:

Giovanni van Bronckhorst close to joining Arne Slot's Liverpool coaching staff
Giovanni van Bronckhorst is close to joining Liverpool's backroom team. The 50-year-old is the leading candidate to replace John Heitinga, who left Liverpool this summer to return to Ajax as head coach. Sporting director, Richard Hughes, and head coach Arne Slot have been keen to find a replacement ahead of the pre-season period and Van Bronckhorst, who has managed at Feyenoord, Rangers, and Besiktas fits the bill. Advertisement Although a deal has not yet been done, Van Bronckhorst is now in talks with Liverpool about forming part of a backroom team alongside Sipke Hulshoff and Aaron Briggs. The former Netherlands international, who played for Arsenal between 2001 and 2004, is keen on a return to the Premier League, and has recently turned down offers to be a head coach elsewhere. Van Bronckhorst has never worked with Slot and doesn't have a close relationship with him, although the pair share similar ideas around playing style and have already discussed plans for next season. If a deal is completed, Van Bronckhorst would arrive at the club with a wealth of coaching experience. After retiring in 2010, the former midfielder began his coaching career in Feyenoord's youth setup before spending four years as the club's first team manager. He then had a short spell coaching in China before spending a year in charge of Rangers. Following his dissmissal as Rangers manager in November 2022, he was also sacked from his position as Besiktas manager after five months in charge in December 2024. He has been working as a UEFA analyst since the start of 2025.
