A quick read for animal lovers that has very summer-like seaside vibes is " Remarkably Bright Creatures." I've never rooted so hard for an octopus.
If you're looking for something innovative, try Rivers Solomon's " Sorrowland," a novel that threads together themes of horror, fantasy, religion, government and race. I wouldn't say it's a quick beach read, but you won't be able to put it down, and you'll come away with a lot of thoughts.

This season, Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short) and Mabel (Selena Gomez) investigate the suspected murder of their doorman, Lester (Teddy Coluca). This leads them to a mafia family that includes a couple played by guest stars Renée Zellweger and Christoph Waltz. Zellweger's casting was announced in March. Bobby Cannavale, Dianne Wiest, Logan Lerman, Keegan-Michael Key, Beanie Feldstein and Jermaine Fowler are also seen in the trailer, along with returning cast members Meryl Streep, Nathan Lane, Da'Vine Joy Randolph, Téa Leoni, Michael Cyril Creighton and Richard Kind. Oliver does a Marlon Brando impression, while Charles misquotes The Godfather. Charles also causes a scene at Lester's funeral by trying to look into the casket. Lane won an Emmy for his Season 1 appearance. The show's production design and music has also won Emmys, including the Season 3 musical episode. Director Francis Ford Coppola doing 'fine' after cardiac procedure in Rome
LOS ANGELES — Francis Ford Coppola, the acclaimed American director of 'The Godfather' movies and 'Apocalypse Now,' underwent a non-emergency cardiac procedure in a Rome hospital and is doing fine, he and a U.S.-based representative said on Tuesday. 'Mr. Coppola went in for a scheduled update procedure' performed by renowned Italian-born cardiologist Dr. Andrea Natale 'and is resting nicely,' the representative said in response to Italian media reports that the director was hospitalized. 'All is well.' Coppola, 86, has been a patient of Natale for more than 30 years, the representative said. The filmmaker was admitted on Tuesday to the Policlinico Tor Vergata, a public hospital in the Italian capital, news agency ANSA reported. The U.S.-based representative declined to give any details about the nature of Coppola's medical procedure, but said: 'There was not an emergency. He went to the hospital in a car. He had a scheduled appointment.' Coppola posted a photograph of himself on Instagram appearing relaxed and smiling with a message reassuring fans, 'I am well.' 'Da Dada (what my kids call me) is fine, taking an opportunity while in Rome to do the update of my 30-year-old afib procedure with its inventor, a great Italian doctor — Dr. Andrea Natale,' it said. He did not elaborate further. The term 'a-fib' in medical parlance is short for atrial fibrillation, a type of abnormal heart rhythm. Natale, currently the executive director of the Texas Cardiac Arrhythmia Institute, is an electrophysiology specialist who pioneered several treatments and devices for the treatment of such disorders. Coppola was in Italy to promote his latest movie, the science-fiction epic 'Megalopolis,' a $120 million self-funded production about a visionary architect's quest to transform a futuristic version of New York City called New Rome into a utopian community. The film, which has drawn mixed reviews and struggled at the box office following its 2024 debut at the Cannes Film Festival, was reported to have received a special screening at the Magna Graecia Film Festival in Catanzaro, Italy. The Italian-American director has won five Academy Awards, four of them for his work on the first two films in 'The Godfather' trilogy, widely considered by cinema buffs to rank among the greatest movies of all time.

The acclaimed filmmaker behind "The Godfather" and "Apocalypse Now" was kept for observation when doctors noticed a mild heart arrhythmia Francis Ford Coppola was hospitalized in Rome for mild heart arrhythmia shortly after the conclusion of his U.S. tour for his film 'Megalopolis,' local Italian media reported Tuesday. The legendary director and six-time Oscar winner attended a scheduled visit with his heart doctor of more than 30 years while in Rome. Before the procedure, doctors reportedly noticed a the arrhythmia, leading them to keep Coppola for observation, ANSA reported, according to Reuters. The film was a decades-long passion project for the acclaimed director of 'The Godfather' and 'Apocalypse Now,' an ambitious feature that relied on Coppola's self-financing. Coppola toured with the film, which released in Sept. 2024, in six U.S. cities from late July to early August. Stops included Chicago, Denver and Dallas, as well as screenings in New York and New Jersey. California marked Coppola's final visit on the tour. The director's wife, Eleanor Coppola, died just months before 'Megalopolis' released in theaters. The director spoke to his wife's passing while at the Palace of Fine Arts, according to SFGate. 'I lost my wife a year ago, around this time,' Coppola said. 'But my attitude for death is that I always lived my life so that when I was at the moment approaching death, I wouldn't say, 'Oh, I wish I had done this and I wish I had done that.'
