It's going to be hot and humid today in the Pittsburgh area before rain returns to the region tomorrow

Today will be the 15th day in a row with no measurable rain in Pittsburgh. We likely won't make it 16 in a row. 15 is notable, though. While records are a little unusual in how they count things, it appears we have only had 10 stretches of weather here in Pittsburgh on record with a stretch of 'dry' weather that has lasted this long.
It's a stretch that should come to an end on Wednesday, as big rain totals are expected along with the possibility of flash flooding.
Model data is pumping out rain totals for Wednesday that put the area under the flash flood risk. At this point, it looks like it would take around an inch and a half over an hour to bring flash flooding to our area. You are looking at around 2 inches over a six-hour period that could also bring a threat for flash flooding. It looks like most places should now expect a little more than an inch of rain throughout the day on Tuesday, with some isolated communities seeing well above that. NOAA's Weather Prediction Center has painted our area under a slight flash flood risk.
Outside of Wednesday, I have an isolated rain chance today and a scattered rain chance on Thursday. Thursday's rain chance is highest south of I-70 and during the afternoon. Highs Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday will just hit the mid to upper 80s due to rain, cloud cover, and slightly cooler temperatures behind the cold front.
Highs will be back in the mid to low 90s starting on Saturday.
As we get into the weekend, skies should clear out and you should have what will be the best chance to see the Perseid Meteor Shower. Normally, the best time would be happening today and Wednesday, but the waning moon will still be bright enough to impact viewing, and skies will be mostly cloudy here either way. This weekend, the Earth will pass through the remnants of the tail of comet 109P/ Swift Tuttle, the reason for the Perseids. The Perseids are always visible during August, and in normal years, meteor sightings drastically lower for the second half of August. Due to the track this year, we should see great viewing through this weekend.

Weather warnings as summer's fourth heatwave brings thunderstorms and showers
Weather warnings have been issued as the fourth heatwave of the summer brings thunderstorms and showers. Despite the grey start across southern and western parts of the country, the heatwave will continue on Wednesday after a sweltering night, with temperatures expected to climb to 34C in parts of England. But the heat is expected to give way to instability in Scotland, with a growing risk of thunderstorms and a chance of flooding and disruption. The Met Office has issued a yellow thunderstorm warning for most of Scotland from 2pm until midnight, with the potential for up to 30mm of rain in less than an hour, and 50mm locally, as well as hail and gusty winds. The highest temperature recorded overnight in 2025 so far was 22.2C in Heathrow on July 1. An amber heat health alert remains in place for the West Midlands, East Midlands, South East, London, and east of England until 6pm, after temperatures peaked at 33.4C on Tuesday. Much of the rest of England is already under yellow alerts. Officials have said that England is suffering from 'nationally significant' water shortfalls, despite rain in July. The national drought group, which includes the Met Office, regulators, government, water companies and other organisations, has met as five areas of the country remain in drought, with six more in prolonged dry weather status. England is suffering widespread environmental and agricultural effects from the lack of water, which is hitting crop yields, reducing feed for livestock, damaging wetlands and river wildlife, and increasing wildfires, the group said. On Thursday there will be residual showers and isolated thunderstorms across the South East, gradually clearing, and lightning, hail and heavy rain drifting northwards from Scotland into the Northern Isles. Paul Gundersen, chief meteorologist at the Met Office, said: 'Some areas will continue to experience their fourth heatwave of the summer so far, with Thursday remaining warm or very warm for many, though cooler near coasts. 'Temperatures could still reach 30C in eastern England, though many areas will be a few degrees cooler than earlier in the week.' Northern England will have patchy rain and cloud on Friday while southern England will enjoy sunshine and temperatures of up to 31C. The weekend should be dry and sunny for most parts of the UK, climbing to 30C on Saturday and 29C on Sunday in south-west England.

It's a First Alert Weather Day Wednesday due to the threat of isolated, severe thunderstorms. Click here to check the latest watches, warnings and alerts. It'll be warm and muggy Wednesday morning, with highs expected to rise to 89 degrees. The morning warmth will give way to a hot and sticky with scattered showers and thunderstorms developing north and west, and gradually working their way toward New York City for the evening commute. Downpours could lead to localized flooding, and there may be locally damaging winds. With all the humidity, it will feel like the low-to-mid 90s. The activity will wind down through the evening, with just a leftover shower here or there overnight. Thursday is shaping up to be another hot and humid day with the chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Friday's looking a bit better. It'll be mostly sunny and warm, but still humid. The highs will be in the upper 80s. Tropical Storm Erin is projected to become the first Atlantic hurricane of the season by Thursday night, and a major hurricane by this weekend. Fortunately, there's no imminent threat to the U.S. mainland, but it will need to be monitored through next week.

Pittsburgh's stretch of dry weather comes to an end as scattered storms roll through on Wednesday
Rain chances are back today, with rain possible both this morning and into the afternoon. One this morning and then another round of rain this afternoon. Rain totals for the day should range from half an inch to a full inch for most places. Some communities may see more than an inch and a half. Rain showers will come as a cold front sweeps through, cooling us down both on Thursday and Friday. Moisture moved in overnight. With winds converging at the surface, you have an additional lift method going on. You may want to keep the umbrella handy throughout the day. With rain around, highs today should hit the mid to low 80s, well off of yesterday's 93° high recorded in Pittsburgh. Morning temperatures were in the mid-70s, and I have today's low temperatures occurring just before midnight. I have Pittsburgh falling to 70 degrees at that time. Noon temperatures today should be in the upper 70s. Looking ahead, if we see any rain on Thursday, it would be before sunrise. Thursday highs should be in the mid-80s, with highs hitting the upper 80s on Friday. Temperatures are set to be back in the 90s again on both Saturday and Sunday.
