"We are well on Track in bilateral trade agreement with US," says Piyush Goyal
New Delhi [India] May 29 (ANI): Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal said on Thursday that the talks for a bilateral trade agreement (BTA) with the United States are on track, and progress is also being made for an FTA with the European Union.
'We are well on track in our bilateral trade agreement with the United States of America, making fast progress with the European Union,' the Union Minister Piyush Goyal said, speaking at the Confederation of Indian Industry's (CII) Annual Business Summit here.
He cited progress on various Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), including those with the UAE, Australia, the UK, the four EFTA countries (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland). The minister said that India has also launched negotiations with New Zealand
He said EFTA countries have committed 100 billion dollar FDI to India in the next 15 years.
Goyal said India is respected and recognised 'for our work around the world'.
'We are preparing India for Viksit Bharat by 2047 - a developed, prosperous nation where speed, skill and scale will define our growth journey,' he said.
'Growth through trade, growth through resilient supply chains, growth through innovation, all of it will be incomplete until we promote inclusive growth that encompasses one and all,' he added.
The minister said India continues to power global growth through its own growth.
'It is a moment of pride for us that we are well on track as the IMF has projected that by 2027, India will be the world's 3rd largest GDP. It is also very appropriate that despite all the turbulence, all the volatility, uncertainty & complexities that the world is going through, we continue to be the fastest growing economy of the world. We continue to power global growth through growth in India,' he said.

India and the US had earlier said that they aim to finalise the first tranche of BTA by the fall of the current year.
There is expectation that India and the United States could sign the first tranche of the much-anticipated Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) before July. (ANI)

Union Minister of State for Defence announces plan to expand NCC by three lakh cadets
Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth on Tuesday announced the planned expansion of National Cadet Corps (NCC) by three lakh cadets across the country, with several States already extending their concurrence and committing to fast-track the necessary training infrastructure. After inaugurating the Special Joint State Representatives and Additional/Deputy Directors General Conference of the NCC in Bhopal, Mr. Seth highlighted its role in nation building and youth development. Listing the initiatives, he spoke about the inclusion of ex-servicemen as NCC instructors, providing new employment avenues for veterans and lauded the NCC's active involvement in national campaigns such as the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Naya Savera Scheme, and Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. He also congratulated the NCC Mount Everest Expedition team for their successful summit on May 18 describing it as a powerful example of cadet courage and resilience. Calling for continued Centre-State collaboration, Mr. Seth urged the States to fulfil their commitments towards manpower, infrastructure, and funding to support the expansion. State will be 1st to reach 100% target of Awas acheme: CM
1 2 3 Pune: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday said Maharashtra is set to provide 30 lakh houses to homeless people under the Pradhan Mantri Awas scheme and become the first state in India to achieve 100% of the target. He also said a fresh survey would be carried out to identify homeless people who are yet to benefit. The CM was speaking at a PM Awas Yojana award function in Pune with Union minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan as the chief guest. Deputy CM Ajit Pawar was also present at the event. Fadnavis said, "The central govt considered the socio-economic survey of 2011 to identify homeless people when the scheme was launched. However, it was full of faults. Only 10 lakh people from the state were named and housing sanctioned to them all. We carried out a fresh survey in 2018 and the number had gone up to 30 lakh." Meanwhile, the state govt has expedited the process to provide necessary permissions for houses sanctioned by the Centre to the 30 lakh people. "Maharashtra will become the first state in the country to achieve 100% target under the PM Awas scheme," he added.
