Majborough has ability to make up for Cheltenham disappointment
Majborough's defeat in the Arkle Chase was an early disappointment at the Cheltenham Festival but with a reasonable round of jumping, he almost certainly would have justified odds-on favouritism.
Back on a retrieval mission in the Grade One Barberstown Castle Novice Chase on day three in Punchestown, he can reverse form with Only By Night, who finished runner-up in the Cheltenham Grade One.
Willie Mullins' 2024 Triumph Hurdle winner made quite an impression when leading all the way in a beginners' chase at Fairyhouse and followed up with a much more authoritative display in a Grade One at the Dublin Racing Festival.
On the back of that, he was a short-priced favourite to complete his treble with Arkle success, but his jumping was indifferent, and a mistake at the second-last almost brought him to a halt. He did well to recover well enough to finish third, beaten just three parts of a length in total.
The five-year-old has been given plenty of time since that run and barring similar accidents, he will reverse form with Only By Night.
The ground will not be in favour of Teahupoo and yet he is difficult to oppose in the Grade One Ladbrokes Champion Stayers' Hurdle.
Winner of the Cheltenham Stayers' Hurdle in 2024, he followed up in this race and while he has been beaten in both outings to date this season, the first was behind Lossiemouth, and the second in an unsuitably slow running of the Stayers' Hurdle at Cheltenham.
As is his wont, his track appearances are few and far between, but there is no reason to believe he won't be capable of running to the same level as he did when winning this 12 months ago.
The mercurial Hiddenvalley Lake was back to his best at Aintree, though it wasn't an incredibly strong race. Rocky's Diamond's fourth-place finish in the Stayers' Hurdle leaves him with something to find with the selection, but Declan Queally's horse is just a five-year-old and he has strong each-way claims if coping with the ground.
Sixandahalf is likely to be all the rage in the listed Close Brothers Irish EBF Mares' Novice Hurdle and Gavin Cromwell's filly will take all the beating if running to the same level as when runner-up in the equivalent race at the Cheltenham Festival.
However, she has an interesting rival in the shape of the Nicky Henderson-trained Timetoshine, and that one makes each-way appeal given she is very much unexposed.
The five-year-old, who has plenty of Flat form in France, was quite green when making a winning debut over hurdles, and while her jumping on her second outing was quite clean, she was a little high over the obstacles. Nevertheless, she quickened away after the last to win as she liked, and she appeared to have the measure of Miss Altea Blue when that one fell at the last.
Third time up, at Chepstow, she showed a little improvement in her jumping and didn't have to be asked a question to justify odds of 1-25.
This is clearly a huge step up relative to those assignments, but she rattles off good ground, loves a strong pace in a race, and really stretches out in the closing stages.
Whether she has the ability of Sixandahalf or not will only be revealed shortly after 4:50 but at early prices close to 20-1, she makes each-way appeal.
The nap goes to Ksar Fatal, who contests the finale, the JP & M Doyle Bumper. When winning his only outing in a point to point, he had the useful Cardcounter five lengths back in second place, and he confirmed that promise by making a winning start on the track, at Gowran Park, readily going clear.
This is a nice step up in company, but he comes here fresh, full of potential, and can continue on his winning ways.

Cleary-Farrell on the double as Mullins dominates action
Punchestown report Willie Mullins dominated the weekend action in Punchestown, registering doubles on both Saturday and Sunday, with 7lb claimer Sean Cleary-Farrell delivering on the double yesterday for Closutton, on board Spanish Harlem and Keep Up. Without a win in his fourteen 14 previous starts for Mullins but fourth in the valuable Bet365 Gold Cup last time, Spanish Harlem broke through in the Jim Ryan Memorial Novice Chase, staying on dourly on the run-in to get the better of No Time To Wait and justify 8/15 favouritism. 'The track and trip suited him and he used his jumping experience,' said David Casey, representing Mullins. 'Sean gave him a good ride and he kept galloping. Nicer ground and extended trip suit him and I'd say we'll keep going with him.' Sean Cleary-Farrell completed his first double and provided the second leg of the Mullins treble on hurdling debutante Keep Up, a facile winner of the Lily & Wild Mares Maiden Hurdle, the 4/5 shot beating market rival Fillusin by five lengths. 'Sean gave her a good ride — she was a bit in his hands, fresh after her break, but she jumped well and stayed galloping,' said Casey. 'I hope she'll go on to win her 'novice' now — she could be one for Galway.' Joli Travail and Anna McGuinness win for trainer Willie Mullins. Picture: Healy Racing Anna McGuinness, another emerging 7lb claimer, rode her second winner in the famous colours of JP McManus and provided the final leg of the Closutton treble when Joli Travail (2/1) made virtually all, to take the John Dowling Memorial Maiden Hurdle at the expense of William Butler. 'He's had a couple of issues, but that was a good performance,' stated a delighted Casey. 'He learned a lot in Killarney and the longer trip definitely helped him. We'll try to find a 'novice' for him but, long-term, he looks like a chaser.' And he added, 'Anna is a good rider. She was recommended to use by James Lambe about a year ago and is with us full-time.' Brosna Queen, trained locally by Sonny Carey, proved best in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares Pro-Am Flat Race, digging deep for Patrick Mullins to see off Atomic Queen and Kabylia. 'She's a good mare, with loads of ability,' said Carey. 'She'll have a break and might come back for the 'Mucklemeg' (listed event at Gowran Park) or a trip to Cheltenham in November.' The Noel Meade-trained Mick Collins (Eoin Walsh) rallied bravely on the run-in to confirm Bellewstown flat form with odds-on favourite Luker's Tipple in the Bermingham Cameras Maiden Hurdle. Tightest finish of the day came in the Madison Flooring Handicap Hurdle, when Gavin Cromwell's versatile grey Londonofficecallin (Kieren Buckley) pipped favourite Stay Gold by a nose before surviving a Stewards Enquiry. And the quirky, Ted Walsh-trained Hardwired, under a determined Gavin Brouder, proved his liking for Punchestown when foiling Antrim Coast by a half-length in the K-Mech Mechanical Handicap Chase., the nine-year-old third success at the County Kildare / poh

‘I don't think there's any negative and he's impressed me the most' – Frankie Dettori's Derby tip
IF you want to find the winner of the Derby then you could do a lot worse than ask two-time winner Frankie Dettori. The world's most famous jockey ended his agonising wait to win it in 2007 with Authorized. 1 Frankie Dettori, won the Derby twice, reckons there's one horse who stands head and shoulders above the rest in this year's race Credit: PA:Press Association And he crowned himself King of Epsom one more time in 2015 aboard the awesome Golden Horn. No one knows the undulations of the Downs better than Frankie - or what it takes to win on it. And one horse in particular this season has impressed him above all others. Asked who he would back in the £1.5million contest, And instead plumped for a British trainer to keep his awesome big race-winning run going. Ralph Beckett won the Arc de Triomphe last year with wondermare Bluestocking. Dettori - who recently The iconic jockey told Most read in Horse Racing "The only thing that might muddle him is the size of the field. "It is close to a maximum field and he's only run twice, so it won't be easy. "He'll have to manage his way through the traffic. He does have a good cruising speed, though, and a good turn of foot. "He's the one which has impressed me the most in the Derby trials. "It's just the lack of experience which disadvantages him. It's very hard to win this race on only your third start, so that's the one thing which puts me off a bit. "Ruling Court is a serious horse. What he showed in the Guineas was very impressive, but it's that massive question mark, will he get a mile and a half? "We know that a mile and quarter is within his reach because he hit the line very strongly at Newmarket, but this is another two furlongs. "He's an amazing, talented horse, but he's got a massive question mark to me. "Damysus looks a very solid horse, but to me Pride Of Arras was much better than him in the Dante and we expect him to improve a bit here, so the gap is looking a bit too far to bridge to me. "Pride Of Arras would be the one I'd put my fiver on. "It's a very exciting race and it is wide open. We've already made a case for a good number of them, and it's very interesting." Dettori also had strong word for Ryan Moore's mount Delacroix. However, his Betfred have the two joint-favourites, while Ladbrokes continue to cut Charlie Appleby's Godolphin colt. The firm's Alex Apati said: "We could be on course for a significant shake-up in the Derby betting over the next few days. "Despite Ryan Moore being on board the favourite, punters' recent interest is seemingly elsewhere. "We may well be looking at a new frontrunner in the field come Saturday afternoon." Aidan O'Brien star a huge drifter in betting markets ahead of Epsom Derby
Aidan O'Brien's The Lion In Winter has been a big drifter in the betting markets ahead of next week's Betfred Derby at Epsom. The Lion in Winter was the ante-post favourite for the classic throughout the winter, having enjoyed an unbeaten two-year-old campaign. Sent off the 8/11 favourite for the Dante Stakes at York earlier this month, the son of Sea The Stars flattered to deceive in finishing sixth of 11 runners. O'Brien reassured the racing public after his charge's season debut that he would be a different proposition come the Derby. But the trainer's faith in the horse has not been reciprocated in the betting markets over the last twenty-four hours. Having been 7/2 for the Epsom showpiece on Thursday night, The Lion In Winter's price has drifted to as big as 12/1 in places as of Friday evening. Consequently, the three-year-old's stablemate Delacroix, an impressive winner of a derby trial at Leopardstown last time out, has hardened into the clear favourite and looks set to have Ryan Moore on board. Betfred spokesperson Matt Hulmes said: 'There has been a lot of movement in both Betfred classic markets for next weekend at Epsom. 'The vibes surrounding The Lion In Winter in the market are far from positive which feels a lot more than jockey talk which preceded the earlier moves this week. The long time Ante Post favourite is out to 6/1, bigger than he was immediately following his Dante effort at York. 'Significant support has come for the other Ballydoyle pair. Delacroix is now a solid 15/8 favourite with Chester Vase winner Lambourn cut to 11/1 from 16/1. 'Betfred 2000 Guineas hero Ruling Court has also seen his first movement since Newmarket and is now joint-second favourite at 4/1 alongside Dante winner Pride Of Arras." Likewise, Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: "It's a tale of two market movers for Aidan O'Brien, and while Delacroix continues to pull away from the chasing pack, The Lion In Winter's Epsom Derby chances have taken a battering over the last few days, if the latest odds are anything to go by."
