Woman, lover arrested with three others for murdering her husband, hiding body: Police
The victim was identified as Vikram , a resident of Dundahera village, who originally hailed from Nawada in Bihar.
Vikram's wife, Soni Devi , told the police during questioning that she and the main accused, Ravinder , plotted the murder with the help of online content as her daughter had seen their inappropriate video on his phone and had told her husband about it, according to a police spokesperson.
Giving details of the entire episode, the spokesperson said that Soni Devi had filed a complaint at Udyog Vihar police station on July 28 that het husband was missing. On July 31, the woman filed another complaint in which she alleged that Ravindra, a neighbour, raped her in March 2025 while her husband was away for work.
She claimed that Ravindra had made a video of the incident and threatened that if she told anyone about it, he would make the clip public.
While investigating, the police team arrested Ravindra , who "confessed" to the murder, the police spokesperson said. Manish and Fariyaad , who allegedly assisted in the murder, were also arrested and remanded in police custody for five days on Saturday.
The police arrested Santarpal , Ravidra's uncle who helped bury the body, on Saturday, and he was also remanded in police custody for five days on Sunday, while Soni Devi has been sent to judicial remand.
During interrogation, Ravindra claimed that he and the woman had been in a relationship, the spokesperson said.
On July 26, he and his accomplices allegedly pulled Vikram into a car when he was returning home from work. They allegedly strangled him to death with a rope and buried him near Mohammadpur Jharsa village. Vikram's body was exhumed after Ravindra told the police where they had buried him.
During questioning, the wife told the police that she was having an affair with Ravindra for about a year, and Ravindra had made an "obscene video" which her daughter had seen on his phone and had told Vikram about it, according to the spokesperson.
"Both the accused, Ravindra and Soni Devi, watched various methods on the Internet and YouTube to kill Vikram and dispose of the body after the murder.
"As per the plan, accused Ravindra went to meet his uncle Santarpal, who takes care of cows and buffaloes in Mohammadpur Jharsa village.
"Ravindra, along with his friends, then killed Vikram and his uncle held him to bury the body in a pit which was already dug by Santarpal on Ravindra's instructions.
"During this entire episode, Soni Devi was in contact with Ravindra over phone. In order to mislead the police, she first filed a missing report of her husband on July 28, while the woman knew that her husband had been murdered on July 26 and his body had been buried. We are questioning the accused," the spokesperson said.

Dharmasthala ‘mass burials': SC refuses to impose gag order on media reports

The Supreme Court on Friday declined to restrain the media from publishing reports or commentary related to allegations of mass graves, disappearances and crimes against women and students over the past two decades in the temple town of Dharmasthala, reported Live Law. A bench of Justices Rajesh Bindal and Manmohan directed a trial court to decide afresh on a plea seeking to gag such reporting, filed by Harshendra Kumar D, secretary of the Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Education Society and brother of Bharatiya Janata Party MP D Veerendra Heggade, according to Bar and Bench. The Heggade family manages the Dharmasthala Manjunathaswamy Temple and the institutions affiliated with it. Harshendra Kumar D had challenged the Karnataka High Court order from August 3, which set aside a gag order issued by a Bengaluru civil court on media outlets, YouTube channels and individuals. On Friday, Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for the petitioner, alleged that the media was running a 'defamatory campaign' while the investigation in the case was pending. He also showed the bench allegedly defamatory social media posts. The bench said that while the temple management can claim damages for posts deemed defamatory, 'gag orders are only passed in the rarest of rare cases'. 'For example the journalist gets to know that police officer has number of a terrorist,' Bar and Bench quoted Manmohan as saying. 'Then they cannot publish. But gag orders are super injunctions. They stifle free speech.' He added: 'Let it be argued before the trial court. There is no documentary evidence. We live in a free country.' In July, a first information report was registered in Dharamasthala based on a complaint by a sanitary worker, who alleged that he was forced to bury the bodies of several women bearing signs of sexual assault. On July 19, the Karnataka government announced the to probe the case. Home Minister G Parameshwara had on August 1 reviewed the investigation and said the state was also monitoring social media posts about the case that could 'wrongly impact society'.

Rajkot cops bust high-tech gambling racket: School dropout turns millionaire via YouTube tricks; marked cards, gadgets seized in Rs 2.7 lakh haul

RAJKOT: In a rare operation, the Rajkot city's Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) unearthed a sophisticated gambling cheating racket that combined high-tech gadgets, online research, and specially designed playing cards. What made the case stand out was that its mastermind, a Class 10 pass man had turned into a millionaire after learning how to cheat in card games through YouTube tutorials. DCP (crime) Parthraj Singh Gohil said they had received a tip-off on Thursday about suspicious activities at the residence of one Vipul Patel (38) in Punitnagar locality of the Vavdi area of Rajkot. A team led by police inspector Mehul Gondaliya raided the house and found gadgets that were used to facilitate cheating during gambling. The team found 4,260 chemically coated playing cards, 75 soft contact lenses, 4 sensor-enabled Android smartphones, bluetooth earpieces, and other gadgets worth Rs 2.7 lakh. Patel confessed that he had been procuring these cheating kits from Delhi for the past three years. Demand spikes during the Shravan month, especially around the Saatam-Aatham festivals, when gambling is common across Saurashtra. Patel told cops about using and selling these kits, earning large sums by cheating and reselling the kits for Rs 32,000 to Rs 60,000, depending on the buyer's requirements. Speaking to TOI, PI Gondaliya said that such cheating methods are commonly used in private clubs and underground casinos. What does the Kerala draft anti-ragging Bill say?

A 12-member multi-disciplinary working group, constituted by the Kerala government in March, has drafted a Bill to amend the Kerala Prohibition of Ragging Act, 1998. The committee was formed in March following a directive from the Kerala High Court, which acted upon a petition moved by the Kerala State Legal Services Authority (KeLSA) raising concerns about the increasing incidents of ragging in educational institutions. The draft proposes to bring the premises of all academic institutions under the purview of the ragging act. This includes the institutions' academic buildings, residential areas, playgrounds, and canteens, whether located within the campus or outside, bus stands, homestays, and all means of transportation used by students, whether public or private. The existing Act had defined its scope only as "the whole of Kerala." The draft has included the term 'body shaming' within the purview of ragging, along with existing terms such as 'teasing' and 'abusing' or playing practical jokes on, or causing hurt. Additionally, while the existing Act says ragging is 'asking a student to do any act or perform something which such student will not, in the ordinary course, willingly do,' the Bill has added 'asking a student not to do any act or perform something which such student will do in the ordinary course' within the definition of ragging. Any form of ragging committed through the Internet or in any digital mode shall be a cognizable offence. According to the existing Act, ragging within or outside any educational institution is prohibited. The punishment for committing, participating in, abetting, or propagating ragging within or outside any educational institution shall, on conviction, be increased to three years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 25,000. Currently, the maximum punishment is two years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000. Whenever there is a complaint regarding ragging, written or oral, the institution head should immediately decide whether a case can be made out prima facie for registration of an FIR within 24 hours. Additionally, the accused person should be suspended forthwith. The existing Act had allowed seven days for the institution head to act upon the complaint before handing it over to the police. The draft states that every institution shall constitute an anti-ragging committee headed by its chief with eight representatives from various segments, such as faculty, senior students, freshers, and parents. There should be an anti-ragging squad at institutes, a state-level monitoring cell with a nodal officer, and an anti-ragging cell at each police station. Any person who makes a false complaint of ragging against any person, committed solely to humiliate, extort, threaten, or defame them, shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to six months, or with a fine, or both. No person shall make any report or quote regarding any victim of ragging, even in any form of media, which may have the effect of lowering their reputation or infringing upon their privacy. The identity of the victim, including their name, address, photograph, family details, educational institution, neighbourhood, or any other details, should not be disclosed.
