'It's just a game': Dubai students have a message for India-Pakistan fans
As thousands of fans, with India's blues outnumbering the Pakistani greens, made a beeline for the entry gates, a group of teens caught the eye.
The bus carrying the Indian team had just arrived, and the teens were waiting to catch a glimpse of India's stars, especially Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
Only one of them was Indian, the rest of the four were all from Pakistan.
And all five of them arrived at the stadium with two collective goals — enjoy the match and spread the message of friendship.
'I think it should be seen as a fun competition, you should not take it so seriously. Just enjoy it as a game of cricket and enjoy it with your friends and family,' said Saanvi Rupnar who is from the Indian city of Pune.
Zara Syed, who belongs to Karachi, said their friendship with Saanvi proves that people from the two countries can always get along well.
'I think the reason there is tension between the two countries is the politics,' she said.
'But normally people are fine with each other, and as you can see here, we can be friends and come together for a game of cricket between India and Pakistan.'
The five teens are Year 13 students at Gems Wellington Academy in Dubai.
'As Zara said, the tension is mainly because of the politicians. But we believe politics should not dictate the friendship between the people of India and Pakistan,' said Alina Khan, whose family is 'Lahori' (residents of Lahore) from the Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
Any game between India and Pakistan can leave the spectators on the edge of their seats.
But regardless of the result of Sunday's match, nothing will change in their lives.
'Win or lose we will always be friends,' said Muhammad Syed.
While Saanvi admires Pakistani fast bowlers Naseem Shah and Shaheen Shah Afridi, her four Pakistani friends gave just one name when asked about their favourite Indian player.
'We all love Virat Kohli, he is the superstar,' said Zulaym Khan.
Finally, the five friends admitted that it's a blessing to be in Dubai.
'It's very uncommon nowadays to get India-Pakistan matches in cricket, so it's amazing to be part of this Champions Trophy match in Dubai,' said Alina, referring to the lack of bilateral cricket between the two teams.
Saanvi agreed. 'India vs Pakistan in cricket is such a special occasion,' she said.
'And we are so grateful that we are Dubai residents which has given us this opportunity to watch this great contest.'

Former Australia cricket captain Bob Simpson dies at 89
Former Australia test captain Bob Simpson, who ushered in the country's modern-day golden era of cricket as its coach, has died aged 89, Cricket Australia said on Saturday. Simpson played 62 tests between 1957 and 1978, scoring 4,869 runs, including 10 hundreds, and claimed 71 wickets with his leg spin following his debut on a tour of South Africa. Simpson, one of the greatest slip fielders the game has ever seen, initially retired from the game in 1968 before returning as test captain at the age of 41 after several front-line Australian players had joined the World Series Cricket in 1977. "Bob Simpson was one of the greats of Australian cricket, and this is a sad day for anyone fortunate to have watched him play or who benefited from his wisdom," said Cricket Australia Chair Mike Baird. "As a brilliant opening batter, incredible slips fielder and handy spin bowler, Bob was a mainstay of a very strong Australian team in the 1960s, and he became a leader across the game as Australian and New South Wales captain and as a coach." "Bob's decision to come out of retirement to successfully lead the Australian team during the advent of World Series Cricket in 1977 was a wonderful service to the game, and his coaching set the foundation for a golden generation for Australian cricket." As coach, Simpson is credited with instilling discipline in an Australia side led by Allan Border, which went on to win the 1987 World Cup and regained both the Ashes and the Frank Worrell Trophy. Leg-spin great Shane Warne called Simpson the best coach he played under and someone who helped his development. Simpson also coached Lancashire and the Netherlands and worked as a consultant with the Indian team in the late 1990s. "Bob Simpson's extraordinary service to Australian cricket spanned generations," Prime Minister Anthony Albanese wrote on X. "As a player, captain and then era-defining coach, he set the highest of standards for himself and the champions he led. He will be long remembered by the game he loved."

Lionel Messi to go on multi-city India tour; stops revealed
Lionel Messi's long-rumoured trip to India is official. The Argentine superstar will arrive in Kolkata on December 12 to begin a four-city tour that has been titled the 'GOAT Tour of India 2025', event promoter Satadru Dutta confirmed to PTI. Messi's India journey will take him through Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Mumbai and New Delhi, before it concludes with an audience with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 15. The visit marks his first appearance in the country since 2011, when he led Argentina against Venezuela in a Fifa friendly at Kolkata's Salt Lake Stadium. Dutta first met Messi's father to present the idea, before holding a 45-minute discussion with the footballer at his home on February 28, the Indian news agency reported. While organisers have hinted that Messi could be joined by Inter Miami teammates such as Rodrigo De Paul, Luis Suarez, Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets, no names have been confirmed yet. The GOAT Cup will be a friendly match where Messi is expected to share the field with Sourav Ganguly, Leander Paes, John Abraham and Bhaichung Bhutia. Ticket prices are likely to start from Rs3,500. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will also reportedly felicitate Messi during his Kolkata leg.
