Kidde Launches "Destination Safety" to Empower Travelers with Safety Tools Amid Rising Concerns Over Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Risks

Business Wire25-06-2025
MEBANE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Carbon monoxide (CO) is a silent, odorless killer that strikes without warning - even while traveling. With inconsistent regulations putting the onus on individuals, Kidde, North America's #1 fire safety brand¹, is helping travelers stay safe with Destination Safety, a new education-first initiative designed to empower travelers to better protect themselves from the threat of carbon monoxide poisoning. As part of the program, starting today travelers can access the Travel Safety Checklist to help protect themselves and their families.
This effort follows a series of recent travel-related CO tragedies highlighting the critical need for increased awareness and proactive measures, especially with the busy summer travel season underway. CO poisonings are increasing in the US and are responsible for over 100,000 emergency room visits, 14,000 hospitalizations, and over 400 deaths each year in the US – though the actual number of CO poisonings is likely significantly higher than estimated due to the imperceptible nature of CO, the wide array of CO poisoning symptoms, and a lack of robust diagnostic tools. ²
When it comes to travel-related incidents, firefighters report having responded to more than 4,000 carbon monoxide emergencies at hotels, motels and resorts between 1999 and 2020, claiming the lives of at least two dozen people and injuring more than 1,000.³
"Travelers have lots to consider when preparing for a trip, and we are urging them to prioritize carbon monoxide safety both at home and away," said Isis Wu, Kidde President, Residential Fire & Safety. "Helping keep people safe is at the core of what Kidde stands for, and with no federal law mandating CO alarms in every hotel or in every vacation rental bedroom, it's essential for individuals to take control of their safety and the devices that can help save lives.'
Only 14 states in the U.S. currently require the installation of carbon monoxide detectors in hotels and motels, leaving many travelers vulnerable ⁴. While some take routine measures to help protect their homes while they are away, many do not consider the same safety risks at their destination. The new Travel Safety Checklist helps prepare travelers by encouraging them to:
Test at-home smoke and CO alarms before traveling to ensure they're working properly
Pack a AA-battery operated CO alarm for use in your travel destination such as a double-AA battery operated CO alarm with a digital display ⁵
Check to make sure smoke and CO alarms are present and functioning in vacation properties
In addition to providing educational resources and advocating for stronger safety regulations, Kidde will be donating CO alarms to communities where CO regulations are not yet in place. These efforts aim to raise awareness, increase access to lifesaving fire and carbon monoxide products, and help safeguard vulnerable communities.

CEA Unveils "Spanish Art Season Cloud Journey" Themed Flight for the Inaugural "Shanghai-Barcelona" Route

SHANGHAI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--China Eastern Airlines (CEA) will officially open its "Shanghai-Barcelona" international route on September 26, with flights MU249 and MU250 operating four round trips per week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays. This route not only links two global cities but also delivers smooth and convenient flying experience for travelers. To build anticipation, CEA has recently launched the "Spanish Art Season Cloud Journey" themed flight. Operated with the Airbus A350 long-haul wide-body aircraft, its cabin interiors harmoniously blend the classic artistic elements of Antoni Gaudí's architecture in Barcelona with the century-old architectural charm of Shanghai's Bund. Iconic elements such as the columns of Sagrada Família, the undulating façade of Casa Milà, and the fantastical bone-like columns of Casa Batlló have been incorporated into the wall panel decoration and overhead bin stickers, allowing passengers to immerse themselves in Barcelona's architectural wonders while journeying through the clouds. The themed flight will debut on "Shanghai-Barcelona" route on September 26, creating a cultural relay from "cloud experience" to "on-site explorations." It will later appear on additional domestic and international routes, offering unique in-flight experiences to more travelers. In addition to the themed flights, CEA has also introduced themed buses across downtown Shanghai, covering key areas of the main urban district, integrating artistic expression with urban mobility throughout passengers' journeys. Travelers who share photos of these themed flights or buses can join an official online check-in campaign for a chance to win surprise gifts such as exhibition tickets and cultural creative products. This launch coincides with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the European Union and the 20th anniversary of the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Spain. Tickets for the "Shanghai-Barcelona" route are currently available through all distribution channels. Earlier, CEA added several new routes to its European network to meet summer peak travel demand. It launched the "Shanghai-Copenhagen" route on July 17, the "Shanghai-Milan" route on June 20, and the "Shanghai-Geneva" route on June 16. To date, CEA operates flights to 15 European cities, including Paris, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Madrid, London, and Rome.

Two planes forced to return to Boston Logan airport hours apart after midair issues

Two planes were forced to return to Boston Logan International Airport just hours apart on Sunday night after separately experiencing issues midair. The flights that returned to the airport included Delta flight 464 and American Airlines flight 2616, according to NBC10 Boston. Delta told the station that its flight was set to fly to Salt Lake City, Utah, when there was an alert regarding one of the plane's doors. The plane returned to Logan, where it was inspected by maintenance and cleared to continue. The airline said in a statement that the plane eventually landed safely in Salt Lake City. "We apologize to our customers for the delay in their travel,' Delta told the station. American Airlines told NBC10 Boston that its flight bound for Philadelphia returned to Boston just after takeoff because of a maintenance issue. The airline didn't state what the issue was, but said that the plane landed safely and taxied to the gate under its own steam, and there were no injuries reported. The plane has since been taken out of service for inspection by the airline's maintenance team, American confirmed. They added that passengers would be accommodated after the disruption. "We never want to disrupt our customers' travel plans and apologize for the inconvenience," the airline said in a statement to NBC10 Boston.

Mexico cruise ports get updated US travel advisory — what to know

Mexico cruise ports get updated US travel advisory — what to know originally appeared on TravelHost. On Aug. 12, the U.S. State Department updated its Level 2: Exercise Increased Caution Travel Advisory for Mexico, which offers guidance for U.S. citizens traveling to destinations all around the vacation hot spot from vibrant cities to popular cruise ports. When you're preparing for a cruise, it's always smart to familiarize yourself with these travel advisories, which the State Department provides to help travelers make informed decisions and stay safe in destinations around the world. While all travel advisories are updated periodically, new safety considerations can pop up at any time that prompt advisory revisions, so if you're traveling soon, it's important to pay attention when new safety guidance is issued. Although cruise travelers can sail with the added peace of mind that cruise lines are highly focused on safety and will never take passengers to cruise ports that are considered unsafe, that doesn't mean there aren't any safety concerns in a cruise destination. So, what do cruise travelers need to know about the updated travel advisory for Mexico? Are there new safety concerns to be aware of in Mexico's cruise ports?
