Before accepting her current role, she had conversations with a competing firm, but quickly decided the role wasn't for her. 'It was clear from the conversations I was having with that workplace that there was not going to be a lot of flexibility to work from home,' she says.
She accepted her current role two years ago because she felt her needs would be met and hasn't looked back.
She works in the office three days a week and from home two days but can switch the days around. She can even work an extra day from home if that suits her without having to ask permission.

'We just communicate within our own team at the end of each week what works best for us the following week based on our own schedules,' she says.

Liz and Ruben are part of a growing number of workers opting out of workplaces with rigid rules on where they need to work in favour of roles that openly promote work from home days.
Ruben says she designed a life that works for her. 'Work is a big part of your life and there's no point being miserable.'

However, large Australian companies are continuing to mandate hard and fast work from the office arrangements, creating tensions in the workplace.
Nearly 39,000 staff members at National Australia Bank were asked to increase the number of days they spend in the office each week. The bank is one of a growing number of businesses moving away from the work from home model.
Other companies pushing for staff to get back to the office five days a week include Amazon, Dell, CommBank and the NSW government.
Meanwhile, Sydney father Paul Collins took his employer to the Fair Work Commission seeking a continuation of the flexible working arrangements he had been enjoying since the COVID-19 pandemic.
Collins, who works for global software company Intersystems Australia, wanted to continue working from home on Wednesdays and Thursdays to care for his children and because he needed 'work-life balance'. His workplace refused his request under a new ruling requiring all staff to return to the office full-time.
But his request was overruled by Fair Work, which said the application he had lodged because of his preference to continue working from home did not relate to his parental responsibilities.
Workers are required to show they have a good enough reason to request to work from home, while Fair Work Deputy President Lyndall Dean found a 'preference' to continue working from home wasn't enough.
In Victoria, the state government is seeking to legislate a right to work from home.
But Ruben says it's always worth asking the boss for more flexibility.

Outgoing JB Hi-Fi boss Terry Smart has his fingers crossed for a widely-anticipated interest rate cut on Tuesday, warning it will take more than two rounds of rate relief to get consumers splurging on new gadgets and tech. His comments on Monday came after the retail bellwether — which also owns JB Hi-Fi New Zealand, The Good Guys chain and home appliance and bathroom retailer e&s — delivered a 5.4 per cent lift in full-year net profit to $462.4 million, in line with market expectations. Total sales in the year to the end of June grew 10 per cent to hit $10.6b, while earnings rose 7.3 per cent to $694.1m. Both were broadly in line with consensus. 'With the interest rate cuts that we've already had, hopefully we'll see tomorrow . . . some more positivity come back into the market and hopefully drive some sales even further,' Mr Smart told The Nightly. 'We didn't anticipate that we would see an immediate response to one or two interest rate cuts, it may take a few to really build up that momentum.' It was also announced Mr Smart would retire in early October and be replaced by current chief operating officer Nick Wells. It marks Mr Smart's second departure from the retailer, having held the CEO position for four years until June 2014. He rejoined the company in early 2017 as chief of The Good Guys, before being reappointed as group CEO in 2021. Mr Smart's looming departure weighed on JB Hi-Fi shares, with the stock down 7.5 per cent to $108.81 just before 1pm on Monday. UBS analyst Shaun Cousins said the CEO transition was expected but the timing was a little earlier than anticipated. However, he remains confident JB Hi-Fi can continue to execute. JB Hi-Fi's group earnings took a $13.7m hit related to a legal action by the consumer watchdog against The Good Guys over certain store credit and StoreCash promotions. At the flagship Australian JB Hi-Fi stores — which makes up the lion's share of sales — revenue rose 7.5 per cent to $7.1b, driven by continued high consumer demand, new product releases and strong promotional activity. Mobile phones, small appliances and computers continued to be the key growth areas. The launch of Nintendo Switch 2 in the fourth quarter also helped to lift sales of games hardware. Online sales are also becoming an increasingly more powerful revenue driver for JB Hi-Fi, increasing by 16.4 per cent to $1.19b — or 16.8 per cent of total sales — as shoppers embraced the click-and-collect offering. JB Hi-Fi also operates 23 stores in New Zealand, where sales increased 20.8 per cent to $NZ396.3m ($361.6m). Comparable sales — which excludes new stores — grew 9.2 per cent. Sales at The Good Guys rose 6.9 per cent to $2.87b, with comparable sales up 6.5 per cent. Last September, the group completed the acquisition of 75 per cent of e&s, which was described as a highly complementary premium home appliance and bathroom retailer. For the period of ownership, total sales were up 5.2 per cent to $225.2m. Commenting on his decision to leave, Mr Smart said he was proud of what had been achieved over the years. 'The decision to leave was a difficult one to make, having been involved with the company for many years and being able to work with one of Australia's and New Zealand's best and most respected retail teams,' he said. JB Hi-Fi will pay out a final dividend of $1.05 a share, fully franked, up 2¢ and bringing the total ordinary dividend to $2.75. It will also pay out a special dividend of $1-a-share fully franked. And in more good news for investors, the company said it would up its payout ratio from 65 per cent to a range of between 70 and 80 per cent of after-tax profits.

Honda Australia is set to launch its first electric vehicle (EV) in the second half of 2026, but the brand hasn't confirmed what it will be – though one particular vehicle appears the most likely. It has announced its interest in the 0 Series EVs – due on sale in the US in early 2026 – for a local launch 'beyond 2026 and into 2027'. Before that, however, it has committed to introducing an unspecified EV in the second half of 2026. A range of EV models from around the world are at the brand's disposal, potentially, with Jay Joseph moving from Honda USA after 27 years to take over as Honda Australia CEO in April 2025. Mr Joseph told CarExpert his internal network at Honda means he's already in talks on which vehicles from the global lineup could work here, increasing the chances of a local berth for many previously out-of-reach overseas models. While the e:Ny1 sold in the UK is made in China, the New Zealand version is made in Thailand, where various Australian Honda models have been sourced for decades. Based on the HR-V small SUV already sold here, the e:Ny1 starts at $NZ52,000 (A$47,450) compared to the HR-V's $NZ45,800 (A$41,800) kick-off, and uses a 150kW/310Nm front-axle mounted motor and a 68.8kWh lithium-ion battery for 500km of range on the more lenient NEDC cycle. It's unclear if Mr Joseph's North American ties will give the 2025 Honda Prologue large electric SUV, co-developed with US car giant General Motors, a greater chance for a local debut. The Prologue is likely to be more expensive than anything currently in Honda Australia's showrooms, given it's larger than anything Honda currently offers here, and uses a GM platform shared with vehicles such as the Cadillac Lyriq. In the US, it starts at around 50 per cent more than the entry-level Honda CR-V, with its business case made more challenging by its current left-hand drive-only production in Mexico. Another possibility for Australia – but also left-hand drive-only at present – is a new generation of Honda EVs announced in China in 2024, with the first models now in showrooms there. The Honda Ye Series announcement included plans for six models to be launched specifically for China by 2027, joining the previously launched e:N Series of EVs already in Chinese showrooms. The first Ye Series were the P7 and S7 SUVs, both using a new dedicated 'Yunchi' electric architecture and using lithium-ion batteries made by CATL. Honda is also developing new battery tech with CATL, the automaker having started an assembly line earlier in 2025 to test mass-production of cheaper, longer-range solid-state EV batteries. The P7 and S7 are both 4750mm long, or slightly longer than the CR-V SUV currently in Australian showrooms, and feature a single rear-axle motor, 89.8kWh battery and 650km of driving range on the CLTC cycle. Both currently start at ¥199,000 ($AU42,482) in China, around the same as the highest-spec Zeekr X SUV, which in Australia tops out at $64,900. The third Ye Series model, the fastback Honda GT, was launched in April 2025. In its home market, Honda also has an electric kei-class van, and recently revealed the N-One e electric passenger car. However, while these are built in right-hand drive, these are likely too small for our market. While Honda pulled back on its target to have 30 per cent of its global sales be EVs by 2030, the automaker remains committed to a Net Zero goal by 2050 by any means.
