Germany to abolish visa remonstration process worldwide starting July 1

Time of India15-05-2025

The German Federal Foreign Office will abolish the remonstration procedure for visa rejections worldwide, starting July 1. This was announced by the German Missions in India following an official decision communicated through the Federal Foreign Office.
The remonstration process, which allowed applicants to challenge visa rejections through an administrative appeal, was not a legal requirement and had been offered voluntarily. Its removal follows a pilot project conducted since 1 June 2023 in several German visa sections, where the remonstration process was suspended for both Schengen and national visa categories.
According to the German Missions in India, "Evaluation of the pilot project has shown that dispensing with the remonstration procedure has released considerable staff capacity in visa sections in some cases, freeing up staff to process more visa applications." The data indicated that the suspension led to an increase in the number of processed applications and reduced waiting times compared to the previous year. Officials stated that removing this step helps all applicants by accelerating overall processing. At the same time, they emphasised that legal protections remain intact. "Adequate legal protection will also be guaranteed in the future, for judicial review under law will not be limited by the abolition of the remonstration procedure," the statement added.

Postpone APSC exams: Aspirants

Guwahati: Aspirants preparing for the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) Combined Competitive Examination (CCE) preliminary test scheduled for June 8 have urged authorities to postpone the examination in view of the devastating floods that have disrupted their preparation and displaced many candidates. The plea for postponement comes after incessant rainfall across Assam over the past week caused widespread flooding, washing away study materials and forcing numerous aspirants to seek refuge in relief camps. "The APSC examination is a critical opportunity for thousands of aspirants seeking public service positions. Conducting the exam under these adverse conditions would be unjust and discriminatory, particularly to candidates from marginalised and flood-hit regions. A postponement is essential to ensure a level playing field," said Nabadeep Borgohain, general secretary, Satro Mukti Sangram Samiti. Asom Chatro Parishad (ACP) president, Trinayan Barua expressed that the current government has been conducting various recruitment exams in a transparent way, so we request the government, along with APSC, to look into aspirants' concerns hailing from flood-affected areas. We stand in solidarity with the aspirants. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Buy Brass Idols - Handmade Brass Statues for Home & Gifting Luxeartisanship Buy Now Undo The flood has particularly affected a total of 19 districts, including Hailakandi, Cachar, Sribhumi, Dibrugarh, Kamrup, Morigaon, Golaghat, Biswanath, Hojai, Nagaon, Dhemaji, Darrang, Sonitpur, Sivasagar, Goalpara, Jorhat, Lakhimpur, Tinsukia and Kamrup (Metro), where several examination centres are located. Many aspirants have reported losing study material to the floods. Several areas in Lakhimpur district were inundated after North Eastern Electric Power Corporation's (NEEPCO's) Ranganadi Dam in upstream Arunachal Pradesh released water. "I've been preparing for this exam for two years, but my study materials were damaged in the floods. For an aspirant, the last 10-15 days before the exam are very crucial, but I had to move to a relief camp. I am already at a disadvantage in comparison to other aspirants," said an aspirant from Lakhimpur. Rate-cut boost: Rupee jumps 11 paise to 85.68 against dollar; market rally and CRR cut lift sentiment

The rupee appreciated by 11 paise to close at 85.68 against the US dollar on Friday, reversing early losses after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) delivered a surprise 50 basis point repo rate cut and announced a phased 100 basis point reduction in the cash reserve ratio (CRR). The local unit opened weak at 85.91, down 12 paise from the previous close of 85.79. But sentiment turned sharply positive after the RBI's unexpected rate action, which supported growth prospects and lifted domestic equities. The rupee touched an intra-day high of 85.66 and a low of 86 before settling higher, PTI reported. "The rupee led the pack among Asian currencies, buoyed by the RBI's surprise 50 basis point rate cut. This decisive, growth-driven policy move provided a significant boost to the local currency and fuelled optimism among domestic equity investors," said Dilip Parmar, Senior Research Analyst at HDFC Securities. At the policy briefing, RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra said the decision to move to a 'neutral' stance from 'accommodative' reflected a data-dependent outlook going forward. He added that the economy remained resilient, with foreign reserves strong enough to fund 11 months of imports and cover 96% of external debt. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Mistura chinesa faz cabelo crescer e homem fica irreconhecível Resultados em 30 dias Undo The surprise CRR cut is expected to inject additional liquidity into the banking system, lowering borrowing costs and aiding credit transmission. Anurag Mittal, Head of Fixed Income at UTI AMC, called the move "pre-emptive and precise," noting that the central bank's intent to fast-track transmission was clear despite existing surplus liquidity. The RBI retained its GDP growth forecast for FY25 at 6.5%. Despite the rate-induced rally, analysts warned of external risks. A rising dollar index, up 0.25% to 98.98, and weakening Asian currencies could limit further gains for the rupee. Brent crude futures slipped 0.26% to $65.17 per barrel. 'Any further rate cut by the RBI may also pressurise the rupee. However, a positive tone in the domestic markets may support the domestic currency at lower levels,' said Anuj Choudhary, Research Analyst at Mirae Asset Sharekhan. He expects the USD-INR pair to trade between 85.40 and 86.25 in the near term. Equity markets reflected the upbeat sentiment. The Sensex closed 747 points higher at 82,189, while the Nifty crossed the 25,000-mark to end at 25,003, up 252 points. Foreign institutional investors were net buyers, purchasing equities worth Rs 1,009.71 crore, exchange data showed.
