Sharmila Tagore, daughter Saba Pataudi reach Cannes ahead of Aranyer Din Ratri screening
Veteran actor Sharmila Tagore on Monday arrived in Cannes with her daughter and jewellery designer Saba Pataudi for the screening of Satyajit Ray's 1970 film Aranyer Din Ratri.
A 4K restored version of the Bengali-language movie, titled Days and Nights in the Forest in English, will be showcased at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival under the Classics section today.
Pataudi shared a series of pictures with her mother on Instagram. 'Cannes 2025! Ma n Me…moments to cherish (sic)' she wrote in the caption.

Aranyer Din Ratri is presented and restored by The Film Foundation's World Cinema Project at L'Immagine Ritrovata in collaboration with the Film Heritage Foundation (FHF), Janus Films, and the Criterion Collection. The funding was provided by the Golden Globe Foundation.

Sharmila Tagore, who was part of the ensemble cast of Aranyer Din Ratri, will attend the screening at the prestigious gala along with co-star Simi Garewal, producer Purnima Dutta, Margaret Bodde, executive director of The Film Foundation, and FHF founder Shivendra Singh Dungarpur.
The premiere of the film will be presented by renowned Hollywood filmmaker Wes Anderson, a long-time admirer of Satyajit Ray.
Aranyer Din Ratri, which explores the themes of alienation, class, and modernity, follows the story of four city-bred men who escape to the forests of Palamau for a carefree holiday, only to undergo a journey of self-discovery.

Based on the novel of the same name by author Sunil Gangopadhyay, the movie also featured Soumitra Chatterjee, Subhendu Chatterjee, Samit Bhanja, Robi Ghosh, and Aparna Sen.

Last Updated: On this day in 1993: Shane Warne bowled the "ball of the century" to dismiss Mike Gatting in the Ashes, marking a turning point in his career. On This Day In 1993: Spin wizard Shane Warne 's legendary career was glittered with some of the most awe-inspiring moments on the field. From his mesmerising leg-spinners to the straight-going flippers, Warne brought many tricks to the fore and left many batters perplexed during his heyday. But the moment that came to define him was reserved for England stalwart Mike Gatting on this day in 1993. Playing his first ever Ashes, the then 23-year-old Warne unfurled perhaps the greatest trick up his sleeve, the delivery that later came to be known as the 'ball of the century'. Less than a year after an unimpressive initiation in Test cricket, Warne turned his fortunes and became an overnight sensation with a leg-spinner that made even the experienced Gatting look clueless for how sharply it went past his outside edge. The dream delivery from the magician came in the first innings on Day 2 in the Manchester Test, carrying the most perfect revs, drift, dip and vicious turn. The ball from over-the-wicket deviated a long way after pitching leg-stump and rushed past Gatting's outside edge to hit the top of his off-stump. The moment the bails were dislodged, Warne roared amidst a jam-packed Old Trafford crowd while Gatting stood still in disbelief, unable to truly grasp what had happened. Warne's Gatting dismissal made waves and kicked off his love affair with English soil where he dismantled the hosts many times in Ashes contests during his career. The charismatic cricketer bagged the 'Player of the Match' award in his very first away Ashes Test with figures of 4/51 and 4/86 in Australia's massive win. Warne went on to take a glorious 708 Test wickets, the second highest by a spinner in Tests, including a stellar 129 scalps in England at an average of 21.94 with 8 five-wicket hauls. On the 28th anniversary of the famous ball of the century, Warne had hailed it as a moment that changed his life and pulled Gatting's leg, saying Thank you for missing it completely. 'This day changed my life 28 years ago (1993). I was just 23 years old and playing in my first ever #ashes series & this was my first ball. Still can't believe it happened. Thanks for missing it Mr Gatting & making this ball become what is now known as the #ballofthecentury hahaha," the legend wrote in an Instagram post back in 2021. Blake Lively WITHDRAWS 'emotional distress' claims against Justin Baldoni in 'It Ends With Us' legal battle
Blake Lively has formally withdrawn two claims against actor and director Justin Baldoni in their ongoing legal battle following their collaboration on the 2024 romantic drama It Ends With Us. The withdrawn claims specifically related to allegations of "emotional distress", in the actress' lawsuit against her director filed in December 2024. According to Variety, Judge Lewis Liman, who is overseeing the case in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York, confirmed that Lively's claims for emotional distress would be thrown out. The judge noted that the withdrawal was based on 'the plaintiff's representation that the relevant claims will be withdrawn,' and as a result, the director's motion to compel Lively to release her medical and therapy records was denied. Lively initially filed a lawsuit, accusing Baldoni of sexual harassment and orchestrating a public smear campaign. In response, Baldoni's team moved to access Lively's mental health records, arguing that such evidence was essential to counter her claims of 'severe emotional distress and pain, humiliation, embarrassment, belittlement, frustration and mental anguish'. However, the court noted that without the emotional distress claims, those records were no longer relevant. Judge Liman instructed both parties to decide whether the dismissal of these claims would be permanent (with prejudice) or temporary (without prejudice), and offered the actress the opportunity to choose to try to reach an agreement with Baldoni. If no formal dismissal is made, Lively will be barred from introducing any related evidence. Lively's attorneys, Esra Hudson and Mike Gottlieb, criticised Baldoni's legal team for their approach which they claim is 'a press stunt'. In a statement to the media, her lawyers said, 'Ms. Lively has offered to dismiss those claims because they are no longer necessary and she will continue to pursue emotional distress damages through other active claims in her lawsuit, including sexual harassment and retaliation. ' Meanwhile, Baldoni is suing both Lively and her husband Ryan Reynolds for $400 million. He alleges the actress attempted to extort him and later defamed him through statements published in The New York Times. The legal battle now involves six separate lawsuits in various courts.
