Makeup and multi-tasking: the hustle behind the highlight

IF YOU'RE reading this while stirring a pot of curry, answering work emails, checking what time you have to fetch the kids from extra murals and texting your mum, then congratulations, you're probably an Indian woman too.
Hi, I'm Resh Naidoo, an occupational therapist, pro makeup artist, co-host of The Double Dose Podcast, gym enthusiast, wife to a busy businessman, mom of two almost-grown brown kids, content creator, co-owner of a fashion brand, and yes, a reality show star.
Reality TV: lights, camera, real-life madness
First, let's get the reality star bit out of the way. Being on The Mommy Club: Sugar & Spice has been surreal. Never in a million years did my twin Losh (Naidoo) and I imagine we would say yes to a reality show. But when we heard it was the first of its kind representing South African Indian women, we felt a huge responsibility to our community to ensure that we were not just represented, but represented well.
As Indian women, we are raised on resilience, on mutton curry and multitasking magic. We wear many hats, and somehow, even when we're running on fumes and dry shampoo, we keep showing up. We had to showcase that to the world.

Now people recognise me and ask things like, 'Do you really hustle that hard?' and 'Is your life always so fabulous?'
The answer is yes and no.
The show gave me a platform, but it didn't change who I am. I'm still that Durban girl, who will go from luxury events to eating a bunny chow at a small Indian takeaway in the same day.
Living between deadlines, dumbbells and DMs
The next question I often get asked is, 'How do you do it all?'
The short answer: I don't know, I just do.
I just rotate what gets prioritised (read neglected ) each week. Life is about seizing opportunities, and it is my responsibility to myself to make it happen. Some days I'm on top of my work schedule and meal prep, while other days I'm filming beauty content in full glam, ignoring the to-do list growing in the corner.
I have learned the art of multitasking. I swap Netflix for gym. Google calendar is my best friend. And I am blessed with the most supportive husband and kids. I think my superpower is that, as a wife and mum, I have built a strong, independent family that can chase their own dreams while supporting each other.
Now this may sound generic to most people, but the truth is this is not the norm in a brown home. For generations Indian moms put their dreams on pause to care for their families. Dishing for their sons, cleaning after their husbands and waiting on their daughters. I've raised my family differently. We share responsibilities and believe in family teamwork because team work really does makes the dream work.
Mom First
No matter how much I have to do, I am a mom first and raising teens is not for the feint hearted. Having older kids means less nappy-changing and more life-coaching.
My daughter, Miashca, is a final year BCom digital marketing student and runs her own marketing agency, and my son, Thishae, is in matric and a mini CEO that runs his own procurement business, so technically, I'm a momager now.
I no longer cut crusts off sandwiches. I cut through career dilemmas and relationship dramas. It's a different kind of parenting, one filled with heart-to-hearts, shared skincare products, and a healthy dose of sarcasm.
The truth? I don't have it all together
Some days I feel like I'm thriving. Other days I'm barely surviving. But what I've learned is that balance isn't doing everything perfectly. It's knowing when to go full-glam and when to just put on a hoodie and hide from your to-do list.
Being on reality TV has given people a glimpse into my world, but what they don't see are the quiet moments between the chaos. The late-night editing, the guilt for taking time away from my family, the deadlines, and the deep gratitude for being able to do what I love.
I'm not perfect. I'm just passionately showing up for my people, my purpose, and myself. Sometimes in heels, sometimes in takkies, but always with heart, hustle, and a touch of highlighter.
The opportunities life throws at you gives you wings, how high you want to fly is up to you. Me? I want to soar baby. So to every Indian woman reading this, the ones balancing ambition with tradition, strength with softness, spreadsheets with sambals - we weren't raised to rest, we were raised to rise. And now, we get to redefine what that looks like. We can chase goals and wear kajol. This is our story. Come soar with me.

Lady Gaga's 'Dead Dance' set to enchant fans in 'Wednesday' season 2
"Wednesday" star Jenna and Lady Gaga. Image: Instagram. Lady Gaga is reportedly making a grand entrance in season two of the eerie world of Tim Burton's hit Netflix series, "Wednesday", as she prepares to unveil her latest single, 'Dead Dance'. Scheduled for release next month, the song will be accompanied by a music video, both of which coincide with Gaga's debut as Rosaline Rotwood, a mysterious and legendary teacher at the iconic Nevermore Academy. Confirmed by Netflix earlier this year, Gaga's character is set to cross paths with the notorious Wednesday Addams, brought to life by Jenna Ortega. According to the streaming giant, Rosaline is not just another educator; she is described as enigmatic and pivotal within the storyline, promising to add intriguing layers to an already captivating plot. The episodes in the first part of "Wednesday" season 2 are set to hit Netflix on Wednesday, August 30, with a second batch arriving on September 3, likely featuring Gaga's highly anticipated debut. According to online reports, the music video for 'Dead Dance' is expected to showcase the hauntingly beautiful backdrop of the Island of the Dolls in Xochimilco, Mexico. Notorious for its hundreds of decaying dolls hanging from trees, this eerie location was where Gaga and Burton were recently spotted, sparking speculation about its influence on the song and video. While not many details have surfaced linking the two, word on the street is that Burton's stylistic vision may be infused throughout. Video Player is loading. Next Stay Close ✕ Written specifically for the show, 'Dead Dance' was reportedly written alongside Andrew Watt and Cirkut. Both Watt and Cirkut previously joined Gaga for work on her most recent album, "Mayhem". Given Gaga's track record of emotional and powerful songs, fans can expect 'Dead Dance' to hit deep. Meanwhile, during an interview at the South by Southwest Film & TV Festival, Ortega opened up about working with Gaga. "She's the best, definitely one of the most talented individuals I've ever worked with. It was just a really, really special environment to be there with her and Tim (Burton), two people that I respect and have been inspired by so much.' She added, 'Then just finding out that she's such a sweetheart and really kind and reserved, it's very strange. I love that you never know what to expect from her, but you can always expect kindness and generosity." Joining Gaga in the second season are Steve Buscemi, Billie Piper, Evie Templeton and Noah Taylor. Joanna Lumley, Thandiwe Newton and Haley Joel Osment will make guest appearances.

Is Beyoncé's Levi's campaign teasing her new album? The Beyhive reacts
Beyoncé has ignited excitement among fans with her latest Levi's campaign, hinting at the much-anticipated 'Act III' of her album trilogy. Image: X This is not a drill, Beyoncé has dropped more easter eggs about 'Act III' of her trilogy albums, igniting fresh speculation among the Beyhive following the release of her latest campaign for Levi's. The short film, titled 'Chapter 4: The Denim Cowboy', was posted by Parkwood Entertainment, Beyoncé's company, on August 4 and features her wearing 'denim on denim' outfits. The campaign marks the fourth instalment in Beyoncé's ongoing collaboration with Levi's and showcases her navigating a range of classic Americana settings. From riding a horse into town, doing laundry in a laundromat, and eventually speeding away on a motorcycle dressed in rhinestone-studded denim. The ad's visual storytelling, combined with the division into three parts, which are 'The Ice', 'The Heat' and 'The Smoke', has led many to believe it contains references to the three-part album project Beyoncé previously teased. Next Stay Close ✕ Beyoncé's "Renaissance" (2022) and "Cowboy Carter" (2024) have been understood to be Acts I and II of a trilogy. With her country-focused "Cowboy Carter" era officially ending after the close of her tour last month, fans are interpreting this latest Levi's spot as a symbolic transition into the third act, which could potentially be a rock album. The shift in aesthetic is also fueling this theory. While Beyoncé begins the campaign in traditional denim as well as western wear, she ends it in a striking glam-rock ensemble. Beyoncé stuns in new 'Denim Cowboy' ad for Levi's. — Pop Base (@PopBase) August 4, 2025 She's also wearing bold make-up and heavily styled clothing, suggesting a significant genre transition. Fans have pointed out that the transition from horse to motorcycle could represent a narrative evolution: from the themes of country to the raw energy of rock. One fan account on X @beyoncegarden wrote: 'BEYONCÉ ARRIVING ON A HORSE & LEAVING ON A MOTORCYCLE IS NOT A COINCIDENCE— ACT 3 IS COMING, GET UP 😭😭😭😭.' Horse to motorcycle 🤔.' I didn't even realize that Beyoncé/Levi's ad was teasing the transition from country to rock. Horse to motorcycle 🤔 — kevikev (@KevCoke6) August 4, 2025 This interpretation is further supported by Beyoncé's recent public appearances and editorial work, which have included nods to rock icons such as Prince and Betty Davis, as well as fashion choices that align with 1970s and 1980s glam rock styling. Though Beyoncé has not officially confirmed the release of 'Act III' or provided details on its genre or timing, the Levi's campaign has become a focal point for speculation.
