Rooney reinstalled as Larne manager

BBC News25-05-2025
Larne have reinstalled Nathan Rooney as manager following the Englishman's enrolment on his Uefa Pro Licence course. In December, just three weeks on from succeeding Tiernan Lynch in the Inver Park dugout, Rooney moved into the club's head of football role after it emerged he was unable to lead Larne in their Uefa Conference League campaign as he did not hold the required licence. Gary Haveron, who took over head coaching duties for the remainder of the 2024-25 season, returns to his role as Rooney's assistant. "It has been a period of change for us all, including our amazing fanbase, who has continued to bring the noise and energy to every matchday since my arrival," said Rooney. "I appreciate all of you and it's our job as a group to continue working hard to achieve new goals whilst working smartly through both the smooth and difficult times."I want to express my thanks to Gary Haveron who has been a great professional to work alongside and his work ethic to keep pushing the team has been second to none – I thank him for his support throughout this period."Rooney, who was brought in from Gibraltar side Bruno's Magpies, added: "Gary will continue to play a major role as an experienced professional who is highly thought of in the local area and the Irish Premiership."Our job now is to hit the ground running in pre-season, develop our younger players, implement a playing style which can be exciting to watch and provide an energy which brings us all together on and off the pitch and we will see where it takes us."Larne chairman Gareth Clements said the past few months have "allowed Nathan to do a lot of the groundwork across the whole club and we're now looking forward to having him lead all aspects of our senior men's team"."We are very excited to see how Nathan will shape the playing squad as pre-season preparations get underway in the coming weeks," added Clements."On behalf of everyone at the club, I want to express our sincere gratitude to Gary Haveron for how he stepped up to lead first team affairs since the middle of December. "Clinching automatic European qualification at the end of a 60-game season, with all the demands placed on the team this season domestically and in Europe, was a huge achievement."Larne finished second in the Irish Premiership, 22 points behind champions Linfield, and were knocked out of the Irish Cup fifth round by Limavady United.

La Liga Odds: Latest 2025/26 La Liga Betting Odds

The new La Liga season promises plenty of excitement as Spain's biggest sides fight for the top-flight title once again in 2025/26. La Liga – Spain's top football division – remains one of the most prestigious football leagues on the planet, with its competitiveness and range of top quality players attracting fans from all over the world. Of course, La Liga wouldn't be so popular without the presence of Real Madrid and Barcelona and the Clasico rivals remain the main attraction, especially for fans abroad, with their appeal also extending to players, as has been shown with the moves of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Marcus Rashford to Madrid and Barcelona this summer. This page details the latest and best La Liga odds for the 2025/26 season. We use the latest Spanish La Liga odds from the best football betting sites to offer readers optimum value on wagering. Readers will find not only the top value on La Liga winner odds, but also La Liga top scorer odds, La Liga relegation odds and prices for each and every game in Spain's top flight. Our La Liga odds are live, meaning any changes made by online bookmakers are instantly reflected in the markets. All the La Liga betting odds displayed come from our recommended betting sites, all of which are licensed by the UK Gambling Commission. La Liga Match Odds La Liga consists of 20 teams that play each other twice, creating a 38-match season for every club. The 2025/26 season gets underway on 15 August and runs until 23 May. This section will detail La Liga odds for individual matches during the season, with odds updated regularly based on form, injuries, suspensions, fixture congestion and plenty more. Do note that any changes made by bookmakers are immediately reflected in our live football odds. Real Madrid and Barcelona tend to dominate the title race, with Atletico Madrid the most common outside challengers, pulling off surprise title wins in 2013/14 and 2020/21. No side has won more titles than Real Madrid, who have claimed 36 to Barcelona's 28, while Atletico have 11. Barca and Madrid start nearly every season as the favourites in the La Liga outright odds and 2025/26 is no different. Below is a table of the last five La Liga winners with their points totals as well as their title odds from the opening day of the season. La Liga Relegation Odds This section will provide the latest Spanish league odds for the La Liga relegation battle. The sides that finish in the bottom three places are relegated to the Segunda Division each season. At the start of each season, newly promoted teams are often favourites for relegation. Two of the three newly promoted sides (Valladolid and Leganes) went straight back down last season, but only one or none had been relegated in the three seasons prior to 2024/25. Anyone looking to have a bet on the La Liga relegation market should check if any teams are struggling financially, as well as which players have been sold by those likely relegation candidates and who have been added as replacements. Note that this market can change quickly as the season develops, and the fight to stay up often goes to the final round of fixtures in La Liga. The top scorer at the end of every La Liga season is awarded the Pichichi Trophy. Kylian Mbappe took the award last season with 31 goals in his debut campaign with Real Madrid, while Lionel Messi is the most successful player in La Liga history, winning the Pichichi eight times. Top scorers are often from big clubs, but there have been exceptions with Artem Dovbyk the surprise winner in 2023/24 with 24 goals for Girona. Factors that can affect the market include penalties, injuries, transfers, and playing style. Bettors can find value by placing each-way bets on this market, with most bookmakers paying out on the top four places at 1/4 the odds. Below is a table of the last five LaLiga top scorers and their end-of-season tallies. Responsible Gambling When having a bet, it's vital to practice responsible gambling. Champions Liverpool open the season with a Friday night match against Bournemouth at Anfield, with the Reds deserving favourites having lost just once at home in 2024/25. Arne Slot's men are also the leading contenders in the Premier League winner odds to retain their crown. On Saturday, the early action sees two of the top sides in the betting in the Premier League top four odds face off as Newcastle take on Aston Villa at Villa Park. Considering the Villans won 4-1 in this fixture in April, we could be in for a surprise on opening weekend, as we had in 2023 when Newcastle ran out 5-1 winners at home. At 3pm, Brighton are favourites to beat Fulham, while Tottenham are heavy favourites to down newly-promoted Burnley and fellow promoted side Sunderland are home underdogs to beat West Ham on their return to the top flight. Both promoted sides are the top candidates in the Premier League relegation odds for a return to the Championship. Unsurprisingly, Manchester City are odds-on to beat Wolves in the late kick-off. City have beaten Wolves on nine out of the last 10 occasions those sides have met, with that lone Wolves win coming at the Molineux in 2023. Sunday begins with Chelsea hosting Crystal Palace, with the Club World Cup winners favourites. However, Palace were good value in their Community Shield win last week, and with Blues having a delayed pre-season, the result could be a surprise one at the Bridge. Nottingham Forest are priced at 11/10 to beat Brentford, with the new-look Bees seen as outsiders to win on opening weekend – and problems with transfers could show early for Keith Andrews' side. Leeds United are the last of the promoted sides to begin their season, with odds of 6/4 for them to win against Everton (17/10) at Elland Road, with David Moyes now putting the finishing touches on a revamped Toffees squad. Sunday afternoon sees perhaps the biggest game of the weekend, with Ruben Amorim's new-look Manchester United offered at 13/5 to beat Arsenal at Old Trafford, with the Gunners odds-on for a rare away win in Manchester. Though Arsenal have won there just twice in the last decade or so, it feels like Amorim won't have had enough time to bleed in his new signings before the match against Mikel Arteta's title-chasing side. Hannah Hampton received social media abuse after viral interview

England goalkeeper Hannah Hampton has expressed regret over revealing she threw Spain goalkeeper Cata Coll's water bottle, containing penalty notes, into the crowd during the Euro 2025 final shootout. Hampton, who saved two penalties in England's 3-1 victory over Spain, stated she has received significant online hate since disclosing the incident. The hate comments notably appeared on a social media tribute Hampton posted for her grandfather, who passed away shortly before the tournament. Spain's Cata Coll has since disputed Hampton's account, suggesting it was not her bottle or that the notes were not as crucial as implied. Hampton clarified her actions were not disrespectful and acknowledged the challenges of public life and online scrutiny, despite her belief at the time that it was Coll's bottle.
