Gerik crash: Police probe teacher over offensive remarks on victims
IPOH: Police have launched an investigation into a Facebook account that posted offensive remarks about the deaths of Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students in the recent road accident in Gerik.
Manjung police chief ACP Hasbullah Abd Rahman said a report was received at about 4.40 pm yesterday.
'A Facebook account under the name 'Khalid Yunus' was found to have posted an offensive remark about the students,' he said in a statement today.
He said the case was being investigated under Section 504 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Earlier, the Perak Education Department had instructed a school to prepare a full report concerning one of its teachers, who allegedly posted the offensive remarks.

Trader allegedly assaulted by royal family member at Kuantan nightclub
KUALA LUMPUR: Police are investigating a case involving a trader who was allegedly assaulted by an individual believed to be a member of the Pahang royal family at an entertainment outlet here last month. Kuantan district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu, said a report was lodged on June 5, although the incident is believed to have occurred in May. He said police have recorded statements from all parties involved. "The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt with a weapon. Post-mortem reveals mother and son died from stab wounds to chest and back
MELAKA: A post-mortem has confirmed that a mother and her eldest son were fatally stabbed in the chest and back, in an incident where the suspect is believed to be the woman's second son, aged 17. Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the 51-year-old teacher had suffered stab wounds to her chest and back, while her 21-year-old son died from a stab wound to the chest. 'A third victim, the youngest son aged 13, remains in intensive care at Melaka Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition,' he said in a statement today. Police said the suspect was arrested outside the family home, appearing dazed at the time. A 20cm bloodstained folding knife, believed to be the murder weapon, was found in a school bag outside the house. The incident is believed to have occurred around 5 am on Thursday, with the victims were found unresponsive and covered in blood in the living room. The teenager has been remanded for seven days until June 19 by Magistrate N. Sivashangari at the Ayer Keroh Magistrate's Court, to assist investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
