Which is the smartest AI model? A chess tournament might hold the answer
Starting from Tuesday, a unique chess tournament might offer the answer to the question on everyone's mind: which is the smartest artificial intelligence (AI) model. The chess tournament, to be played over three days on Kaggle Game Arena, in partnership with Google DeepMind. The tournament will also have world no 2 chess player Hikaru Nakamura doing livestreams of the action on his Twitch channel with his insights while world no 1 Magnus Carlsen will do an event-ending recap for the Take Take Take app. Popular chess streamer Levy Rozman (known popularly as Gotham Chess) will also be doing daily recaps and analysis videos on his YouTube channel. The event will feature eight of the world's leading AI models: Gemini 2.5 Pro (Google), Gemini 2.5 Flash (Google), o3 (OpenAI), o4-mini (OpenAI), Claude 4 Opus (Anthropic), Grok 4 (xAI), DeepSeek R1 and Kimi k2 (Moonshot AI). Elon Musk, who is the man behind Grok, was slammed by chess players last year for his opinion about chess. 'Computers are so much better than humans at chess, it's absurd. I predict that chess will be essentially fully solved (like checkers) within 10 years,' he had posted on X in May last year. He had also spoken in an interview about playing chess for his school chess team. 'I was on the school chess team. But I find that chess is a simple game frankly. I mean you only have 64 squares. I was pretty good at chess as a kid. I won every game.' Responding to Musk's comments about never losing at chess and it being a simple sport, Nakamura had said: 'Anybody who says they had never lost at chess, you know something (fishy) is going on! Back in the 90s machine vs human and machine vs machine chess tournaments (such as the Top Chess Engine Championship or Computer Chess Championship) used to be quote popular. But after the machines grew too strong, the events ran out of steam and were discontinued. The event will be help with help from popular streaming platform and Google DeepMind, which gave the world the chess-playing computer program AlphaZero in 2017. AlphaZero is a neural network that became really strong in the sport by playing millions of games against itself for four hours. In fact, AlphaZero was able to outperform Stockfish 8, which was back then one of the strongest chess programs, just four hours after being fed the rules of chess and being told to learn by playing simulations against itself. When AlphaZero and Stockfish played a 100-game match, AlphaZero won or drew all of the games.

Archana Puran Singh's sons stand at Mumbai traffic signal to get ‘genuine reactions' for their new song, people recognise only one of them
The chaotic 'Aaap Ka Parivaar' just got a new cause for celebration, as Archana Puran Singh's son Aaryamann Sethi dropped a new song titled 'Madhubala' on all streaming platforms, including YouTube and Spotify. To promote his new song, Aaryamann took his brother Ayushmaan and his girlfriend Yogita Bihani to Bandra in order to get some genuine live reactions from the public. The latest vlog shows the trio conversing with random fans and making them hear the song and view the music video. Equipped with a mobile phone, headphones, and a yellow poster that said, 'Hey, come listen to our song', the gang started their journey to Bandra. They stopped right alongside Marine Drive and started inviting people to come and listen to the song just as the street lights came on. Aary admitted that he is feeling a little bit nervous about people listening to the song right in front of him; he said, 'What if people don't like it?' Ayushmaan, who made the music video for the song, seemed much more carefree about the whole thing, as he was walking around imitating Nana Patekar's character from the film Welcome. They soon got their first listener, and the ball started rolling as more and more people stopped to give the song a listen. ALSO READ: How Gulshan Grover reconnected with son after divorcing wife, almost thrashed him after high-profile Hollywood meeting While some people who stopped and listened to the song did not recognise the brothers or Yogita, a lot of fans rushed to get their pictures clicked with all three of them, and many even shared their experiences of watching the vlogs. Ayushmaan and Yogita soon came up with a tactic and told Aaryamann to go and hide so people would give their honest reactions after listening to the song. Even with him not there, the listeners seemed to like the song and kept congratulating Aaryamann on appearing. One of the listeners thought that Ayushmaan looked a lot like Parmeet Sethi and stopped to give the song a listen. On discovering that Ayushmaan is in fact Parmeet's son, who is frequently seen in vlogs with him, he shared that he knew Parmeet and Archana but never knew they had another son apart from Ayushmaan. Aarymann reacted to this and said, 'Mai pehle aya tha (I was here first). He knows both Mom and Dad and even Ayushmaan, but he doesn't know me. Jitne bhi vlogs karlu mai, log pehle isse hi pehchanegay, dusra beta toh tha hi nahi (No matter how many vlogs I make, people will still recognise him first. It's like the other son was never there.' Yogita decided to cheer him up by pointing out that a lot of people know him and that is the reason she and Ayushmaan suggested that he should hide. She continued and said, 'Aap sab kehte rehte ho na ki Ayush ko lekar aao vlog mai, yeh karta hai yeh jab vlog mai ata hai (You guys keep asking for Ayush to be part of the vlogs. This is what he does when he is here.'

Veteran Actor Prem Chopra Praises Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par, Calls It 'Fantastic'
Last Updated: In a recent video message, Prem Chopra expressed his love for both the film and Aamir's choice Veteran actor Prem Chopra has praised Aamir Khan's latest film Sitaare Zameen Par and called it 'absolutely fantastic". He also lauded the superstar for his courage and creative vision. In a recent video message, Prem Chopra expressed his love for both the film and Aamir's choice to tackle such a unique subject. Taking to their Instagram stories, Aamir Khan Productions shared Prem Chopra's video, 'Aamir just saw Sitaare Zameen Par and I am so much proud of you. Absolutely fantastic. Nobody could have the guts to make a film like this. And the voice and the sound on Youtube is so superb. The whole thing we could see so clearly and understand it. … I wish all the best. Take care and god bless you Aamir. You are great guy." Days after Aamir Khan's latest film Sitaare Zameen Par was released on YouTube with a pay-per-view option, it was reported that Apple device users can access it only after paying Rs 179. However, Aamir Khan has now clarified that the issue is due to a glitch and that his team is working to resolve it on an immediate basis. While Aamir Khan is not on social media, his production house, Aamir Khan productions, recently took to its official X handle and clarified on the issue. 'Our sincere apologies. We just became aware that the cost to rent our film Sitaare Zameen Par is reflecting as ₹179 on Apple devices. We are trying to resolve this issue as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding," it wrote. Aamir Khan has sparked a conversation around cinema affordability with the YouTube release of his much-anticipated film Sitaare Zameen Par. Recently, the actor-producer expressed concern over the rising cost of moviegoing and shared his vision to make films more accessible to the masses through his official YouTube channel. The investment in them was very high, so the prices of tickets and eatables also increased. Just like when you go to a five-star hotel, the same things that you'd get elsewhere for a much lower price cost a lot more there because it offers many more facilities and a five-star environment." He added, 'Similarly, multiplexes have now become quite elite. Unless you have a certain level of economic earnings, you simply can't afford to go there." Made under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions, Sitaare Zameen Par stars Aamir Khan and Genelia Deshmukh in lead roles, along with 10 rising stars. The lyrics are penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya and music is composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. The screenplay is written By Divy Nidhi Sharma. The film is produced by Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit, with Ravi Bhagchandka as the producer. First Published: August 05, 2025, 15:38 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
