Shubman Gill
steps in as the youngest captain of the red-ball side, taking charge of a team suddenly without some of its longstanding batting pillars - Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma - who both called time on their Test careers last month.
Ahead of Gill's first assignment in the high-stakes series against England, which is underway at Headingley, former India cricketer Yograj Singh has urged the young leader to channel the spirit of Kapil Dev's inspirational leadership from India's historic 1983 World Cup triumph.
"Shubman has to lead from the front," Yograj told ANI, making no effort to conceal his expectations from the new skipper. "A few days ago, I was talking to Yuvraj Singh about Abhishek (Sharma) and Shubman Gill.
Yuvraj said he would have to lead from the front. As Shubman Gill goes out to bat, he has to stay at the crease for the maximum time. When a captain leads from the front, and scores runs, it's important for Shubman to set a target of 100, 200 or 300.
He has to lead from the front. He also has to take everyone forward together, just like Kapil Dev did in the 1983 World Cup. I believe India will win the series," he said.

India's newly crowned Test captain, Gill, started off the tour of England on a blazing note, scoring a defiant half-century when India had lost two wickets in two overs before lunch. An elated Shastri, in the commentary box, seemed over the moon watching one of his discoveries on the fast track to success. He just seemed to have time, more than anyone else, as he bludgeoned through the likes of Pakistan and Australia. I remember seeing him for the first time when I was the coach and he was batting in the nets. He came out to bat and I went to the other coaches and said 'Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Who is this bloke? Get him in." Gill's India debut About a year later, Gill made his India debut during an ODI series in New Zealand, just a couple of months before the 2019 World Cup. Gill then made his Test debut in the Boxing Day Test match against Australia at the MCG and scored an unbeaten 48 as India completed a famous win after their infamous 36 all out in Adelaide. "He had that regal element about him. Just the way he played, and the shots he possessed. Especially against the quicks and the bouncing ball. He started off well during the Under-19 World Cup when Rahul [Dravid] was the coach. And just came through the ranks nicely," added Shastri. It's a challenge in itself when someone comes through, and everyone says this is the future of the country. More so in India, where expectations go through the roof. For all the pieces of the puzzle, Gill seems to have come through nicely. Having made it in the ODIs, he's now grinding it out in Test set-up.

Bavuma ruled out of Zimbabwe Tests due to injury
Cape Town, June 20 (UNI) South Africa's title-winning captain Temba Bavuma has been ruled out of the upcoming two-match Test series against Zimbabwe due to a left hamstring strain. Keshav Maharaj will takeover as the captain for the red-ball series starting from June 28. Bavuma sustained the injury during day three of the World Test Championship Final at Lord's while batting in the second innings. He continued to bat with pain and put on a fight with a well-made half century, stitching up a match-winning partnership with Aiden Markram. Bavuma is set to undergo further scans to assess the extent of the injury, while experienced Maharaj will lead the side, which consists of five uncapped players. The Proteas had faced Zimbabwe in a warm-up fixture, before taking on Australia for the Ultimate Test at the Home of Cricket, where they were crowned the Test champions, an ICC report said. Proteas will take on Zimbabwe in the first Test on June 28, followed by the second Test from July 6, with both matches taking place at Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo.
