Eight Chinese nationals nabbed in suspected Pogo hub in Davao City
'The operation was initiated by the agency after a homeowner's complaint regarding suspicious activities inside a residential property,' said lawyer Arcelito Albao, director of the NBI's South-Eastern Mindanao Regional Office.
Prompt surveillance and verification by NBI agents confirmed the presence of Pogo operations inside a house at Gardenia Street, Montclair Highlands Subdivision along Diversion Road, Buhangin District here.
Seized items from the arrested individuals included 10 personal computers and multiple mobile phones.
'Operators have been splitting into smaller groups and moving into residential areas to avoid detection following the nationwide crackdown,' Albao said.
'It has been an emerging pattern in illegal Pogo activities. There is a need for constant community vigilance and rapid law enforcement response,' he added.
The eight individuals, six men and two women, are now in NBI custody and will be charged with violation of Presidential Decree No.1602 (Anti-illegal gambling), Republic Act 9160 (Anti-Money Laundering), and Republic Act 10363 (Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons).
The NBI-SEMRO continues to urge the public to report suspicious activities in their respective communities, including illegal offshore gaming operations.
'Crimes often accompany them, including money laundering, cybercrime, and human trafficking,' Albao said.
The operation on Tuesday demonstrates the NBI's campaign as directed by NBI Director Jaime Santiago against offshore gaming that undermines the nation's economy and national security, he added.
'The Bureau's continued commitment to act swiftly on community intelligence, track evolving criminal tactics, and disallow illegal gambling operations to rebrand, resize, or relocate as a way to circumvent the law,' Santiago said in a statement. - Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN

Fear of missing flight leads Chinese national to injure KLIA officer
KUALA LUMPUR: Fear of missing her flight led a Chinese national to injure an immigration officer during a departure inspection at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on Wednesday. A source said that at the time of the incident, the woman was with family members, including her two children, at the immigration counter. "The woman and her family arrived late at the immigration counter as they were rushing to catch their flight home to Pudong, China, at 7.25pm. "At the counter, the woman was asked to step aside for further checks as there was no record of her entry into Malaysia," the source said. According to the source, anger and fear of missing the flight caused the woman to suddenly create a commotion by raising her voice, pulling the headscarf of the officer on duty, and forcefully pushing the officer's head against a pole in front of the counter. "The woman was detained after the officer sought assistance from other officers on duty," the source added. Meanwhile, Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar, when contacted, confirmed this. "Yes… the delay was due to the need for further checks, which angered the woman. "She and her family were in a hurry as they feared missing their flight," he said. Yesterday, the Chinese national was arrested for acting aggressively and injuring an immigration counter officer during a departure inspection at KLIA. The incident occurred at about 7.40pm at the KLIA Terminal 1 Departure Hall when four Chinese nationals — two adults and two children — were undergoing immigration departure checks. The Chinese national is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code (obstructing a public servant), Section 332 (causing hurt to a public servant), and Section 353 (using criminal force against a public servant).

Chinese military ‘warns off' US destroyer from vicinity of Scarborough Shoal
A US destroyer has entered disputed waters in the South China Sea, less than two days after an incident involving a Chinese coastguard vessel and a PLA Navy ship while the former was pursuing a Philippine coastguard vessel in the area. The People's Liberation Army's Southern Theatre Command said on Wednesday that the USS Higgins, an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer, had 'illegally entered China's territorial waters around Huangyan Island [another name for Scarborough Shoal] without the approval of the Chinese government'.
