Neil Nitin Mukesh wants to work with Deepika Padukone again: She inspires me

India Today07-05-2025

Actor Neil Nitin Mukesh recently took a walk down memory lane as he fondly recalled working with Deepika Padukone in 'Lafangey Parindey'. In an exclusive chat with India Today Digital, he opened up about their bond, shared experiences, and his admiration for her even today.
Reflecting on their first major promotional activity together, Neil said, 'I think this was a magazine shoot. And I really enjoyed it because it was our first promotional kick-start to 'Lafangey Parindey'. But at the same time, the characters we were playing on screen were very different from the vibe of this shoot—very puffy colours, very young vibe.'
Calling Deepika a 'great friend,' Neil added, 'I respect that woman so much. She's putting so much hard work into her career. It was outstanding to work with her and the entire team.'
When asked if they still stay in touch, Neil responded candidly, 'Off and on. You know, with parenthood, motherhood, my family life... Off and on, we are in touch whenever we meet. We're very cordial and gracious even now. But I wish her all the best nonetheless. She's always going to be very close to my heart.'
Neil, who has worked with several leading ladies over the years, was also quizzed about co-stars like Katrina Kaif. Talking about his camaraderie with Katrina, he shared, 'I've had some fantastic co-actors, and Katrina is one of them. Very dear to me. We had a great team, fantastic shoot, and some great memories.'
But when asked to pick just one actress he'd love to reunite with from his past films, Neil didn't hesitate and said, "Deepika. I have worked with amazing actors like Katrina, Bipasha, and others, but I would like to reunite with Deepika. She's somebody who inspires me as an actor. Of course, she's drop-dead gorgeous, but apart from the glam aspect, I love that she puts in a lot of effort. She's very supportive as a co-actor, too. 'Lafangey Parindey' was a tough film — learning skating. I've seen her journey, her dedication, and her hard work toward her craft. So, for me, I was truly inspired watching that. Playing a blind character was difficult but she did it so beautifully."
Neil also praised Deepika's recent choice of roles. 'Of late, she's been experimenting with very interesting characters and roles. Like 'Chhapaak', for example—that was a film I really enjoyed. And I need to work with actors who inspire me and can probably teach me something. For her to be so confident in her own skin and go play a character like that—that's inspiring, and I admire that about her. She'll always be very close to my heart."
Neil Nitin Mukesh will next be seen in Hai Junoon, where he will share the screen with Boman Irani and Jacqueline Fernandez, along with Sumedh Mudgalkar, Siddharth Nigam, and Priyank Sharma. It will stream on JioHotstar from May 16.

Criminal Justice season 4: Big update on remaining episodes. When and where to watch

Criminal Justice Season 4 has all the ingredients of a gripping legal thriller—twists, tension, and the ever-reliable Pankaj Tripathi in top form. But while the courtroom drama is heating up on-screen, a very different drama is unfolding online. Fans, who were thrilled when the new season premiered on May 29, are now fuming over JioHotstar 's weekly release strategy, which drops just one new episode every Thursday. The first three episodes were released on May 29, however, from episode 4 onwards, each episode will be released after a week to create more anticipation around the series. Unlike platforms like Netflix or Prime Video that typically release entire seasons in one go, JioHotstar's decision to stretch the fourth season week by week has led to growing frustration. Viewers took to social media to vent, saying the slow rollout is killing the thrill of the show. The new episodes will be released on the streaming app every Thursday. This means that the next episode will be released on June 12. Netizens react to weekly episode release One fan expressed their frustration on X after starting Criminal Justice Season 4, saying the initial mood was perfectly set, but the excitement quickly faded upon realising that only three episodes were available. They questioned JioHotstar's weekly release strategy, calling it less like a gripping legal thriller and more like 'episodic torture' for loyal fans eager to binge. — irfan_speak786 (@irfan_speak786) Another fan called the three-episode drop a major letdown, pointing out that waiting every Thursday for just one new episode kills the momentum and excitement of the show. — rajputabhiraj09 (@rajputabhiraj09) Echoing the sentiment, a viewer who had been waiting nearly a year for Criminal Justice Season 4 vented their frustration, slamming the weekly rollout as a disservice to loyal fans. They criticised JioHotstar and the creators for stretching the release and dragging out the experience instead of allowing viewers to immerse themselves fully in the story. — akshayjanagoud (@akshayjanagoud) About Criminal Justice season 4 The backlash is a testament to just how invested audiences are in the journey of Madhav Mishra , the soft-spoken but razor-sharp lawyer played by Pankaj Tripathi. In Season 4, he takes on a sensational murder case involving a politically influential family. What starts as a simple defence soon morphs into a courtroom chess match, with secrets, manipulation, and high-stakes drama at every turn. Directed by Rohan Sippy and produced by Applause Entertainment, the show has consistently won praise for its grounded storytelling and layered performances. Viewers can catch new episodes of Criminal Justice: Adhura Sach Season 4 every Thursday on JioHotstar.

Deepika Padukone out of Kalki 2 movie? Actress faces ‘back-to-back project losses' after becoming mother: Report

Deepika Padukone's request for shorter work hours after becoming a mother is allegedly creating tension on film sets. The makers of Kalki 2 are considering trimming or removing her role, reported on Instagram. The news comes after her exit from Spirit, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. Her alleged clash with the Animal director was widely reported. 'This could impact her career after back-to-back project losses,' the Instagram page with 2 million followers reported. LiveMint could not independently verify the claim. Kalki 2898 AD enjoyed massive success, minting ₹ 1,042.25 crore worldwide. The movie had national stars like Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan. While fans have been excited about its sequel, Kalki 2, reports earlier said that the shoot could be delayed after Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh welcomed their baby daughter, Dua Padukone Singh. According to the Bollywood actress, her daughter is her main focus now and she is in no hurry to return to work. She wants to raise her child herself, like her mother did. Amid the speculation, director Nag Ashwin said Deepika's role was the backbone of Kalki. It would not be possible to make the sequel without her, he added. Meanwhile, fans reacted to the report of Kalki 2 being made without Deepika Padukone. 'This is a fact that new mothers do face problems, especially when they want to have work-life balance! Even the big celebs are struggling who want to have a career as well as be around their growing kids!' wrote one user. Another wondered, 'But without her how the mother part will be played!' 'There must be equality in payment you want to make actress work even after having a too such a big actress,' wrote another while making an apparent reference to the Sandeep Reddy Vanga episode. 'She should get some flexibility. It's very logical. Women enjoy flexibility even in the corporate world. This is just a film industry, and you can stretch on the timelines,' came from another. Deepika Padukone, one of India's top-paid actresses, has often spoken against unequal pay in films. An old interview of hers resurfaced as rumours grew about her exit from Sandeep Reddy Vanga's film Spirit. In the interview, Deepika said she had once left a project because the director couldn't pay her fairly even though she liked the script. Though Deepika did not specifically speak about Spirt, the director posted a sharp message online. Sandeep Reddy accused an unnamed actress of disrespect and leaking story details. Reports say Deepika was cast opposite Prabhas and offered ₹ 20 crore, her biggest fee yet. She has now been replaced by Triptii Dimri at a much lower fee.
