APSRTC employees union seeks immediate resolution of key issues
Speaking at an event marking the union's 74th anniversary on Friday, Mr. Venkateswarlu recalled the long-standing efforts for the merger, pursued since 1952 and finally realised in 2020. While the merger was a milestone, he said it initially led to the suspension of several benefits, including incentives and compassionate appointments. These issues were later resolved through a 92-day agitation jointly led by AP JAC Amaravati and the Employees' Union during the previous government's tenure.
Mr. Venkateswarlu informed that a representation was recently submitted to M. Ravi Chandra, Secretary to the Chief Minister, seeking redressal of the pending issues. He reaffirmed the AP JAC's full support for the cause of the Public Transport Department employees.
He appreciated the government for ensuring timely disbursal of salaries and pensions but highlighted employee concerns over pending dues, the long-overdue 12th Pay Revision Commission, and the absence of Interim Relief, which he said were leading to growing dissatisfaction among the workforce.
A.P. Public Transport Department (APPTD) Employees' Union State president P. Damodar Rao urged the government to clear long-pending promotions held up for over six years. Pointing out that nearly 25% of APSRTC buses had been leased to private operators, he demanded that the proposed induction of electric buses into the RTC fleet should be operated solely by RTC staff.
He said successful implementation of the proposed free bus travel scheme for women would require immediate recruitment of 10,000 new employees and addition of 3,000 buses. He also pressed for the restoration of medical services through a referral hospital system, payment of pending gratuity and leave encashment for retired staff, and job security for outsourced workers.
Representatives from various employees' associations also participated in the event.

Nellore: Kovur MLA Vemireddy Prasanthi Reddy has said that all eligible in the constituency would be covered under the welfare schemes irrespective of political parties. The MLA informed that government was keen on re-launching the Kovur Sugar factory and will establish industries in IFFCO and Kisan SEZ as number of youth in the constituency would have job opportunities in them very soon. While saying that she has became MLA only because of hard work by the party functionaries, Prasanthi Reddy assured that the party activists who were responsible for bringing the party in 2024 elections will be placed in better positions. TDP Kovur mandal president Kollareddy, Penna Delta Chairman Jetty Rajagopal Reddy, party leaders Sudhakar Reddy and others were present.

Top priority to law and order maintenance in Andhra: HM Vangalapudi Anitha
VIJAYAWADA: Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha has said top priority is being accorded to effective maintenance of law and order in the State by strengthening the Police Department with the state-of-the-art infrastructure. The Home Minister, along with Excise Minister Kollu Ravindra, APSRTC Chairman Konakalla Narayana Rao, Eluru Range IG Ashok Kumar, and Krishna SP R Gangadhara, laid the foundation stone for the District Police Centre at China Kara Agraharam in Machilipatnam on Thursday. The training centre is being constructed on 46 acres at an estimated cost of Rs 32 crore. Speaking on the occasion, the Home Minister said there were no proper police training centres in the State post bifurcation. Though the proposal for setting up a training centre was made during the previous TDP regime (2014-19), it did not materialise due to the negligence of the YSRCP government. 'Steps are being taken to prevent crimes by installing one lakh CCTV cameras across the State, besides using drone technology,' she said. The Home Minister announced that the marine police station at Gilakaladindi will be renovated as per the Excise Minister's request. Kollu said the training centre will be a boon to Machilipatnam. There will be separate facilities to train men and women at the centre. Steps will be taken to set up a training centre for Excise cops in the same area, he said. MLAs Yarlagadda Venkata Rao (Gannavaram), Venigandla Ramu (Gudivada), and Varla Kumar Raja (Pamaru), MUDA Chairman Matta Prasad and others were present.

Karnataka High Court expresses shock over Forest Department's criminal case against Assistant Commissioner, who had passed a quasi-judicial order against it's claim of forestland
The High Court of Karnataka has expressed shock over the action of the Forest Department in registering a criminal case against an Assistant Commissioner (AC) of the Revenue Department for passing a quasi-judicial order describing certain land as 'Government Gomal' against the claim made by the Forest Department that it was 'forestland'. 'What shocks the conscience of the court is the Forest Department registering a crime for the performance of the AC's quasi-judicial functions. As an Assistant Commissioner, looking into the records, he has passed an order, not bartering away the forestland to private entity, but observing it as a 'Sarkari Gomala' under the Revenue Department,' the court observed. Justice M. Nagaprasanna passed the order while allowing a petition filed by B.A. Jagadeesh, the then AC of Hassan sub-division, who is now working as Project Director, Hassan District Urban Development Cell. The complaint before the Hassan judicial magistrate was lodged by IFoS officer Saurabh Kumar, the then Deputy Conservator of Forests, Hassan territorial division, in 2024. AC's order The AC passed the order on January 5, 2022, declaring certain land, situated in Tyavalli village, Shanthigrama hobli, Hassan taluk, as 'Sarkari (government) gomal' land and was being used by many persons to access their private land. Stating that the land was 'government gomal' in the Records of Tenancy and Rights (RTC) for many years, but was classified as 'forest' in the recent RTCs, but the Forest Department had not produced documents based on which the RTC entries were changed. However, the Hassan Deputy Commissioner, on an appeal filed by the Forest Department, passed a quasi-judicial order asking the AC to consider the issue afresh giving sufficient opportunity of hearing to the Forest Department. Interestingly, the Forest Department, soon after the Deputy Commissioner remanded the issue back to the AC, registered the criminal complaint on January 27, 2024, against the petitioner, who was by then not holding the post of AC, Hassan sub-division. 'After having filed an appeal and securing an order of remand to consider the issue afresh, it did not lie with the Forest Department to register a crime against the petitioner for having performed his quasi-judicial functions, unless it is found the exercise of such function is laced with criminality and foundationed on mens rea,' the court observed while noticing that the petitioner had not given the land to any private persons but had termed as land belonging to the Revenue Department on noticing that they were used for cattle grazing for ages. Miscarriage of justice Allowing continuation of criminal proceedings against the petitioner in such circumstances would result in the miscarriage of justice and become an abuse of the process of the law, the court said while quashing the complaint. The criminal case against the petitioner was registered for alleged violation of the provisions of the Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980.
