Indian-origin college student from US dies in Bahamas
NEW YORK: An Indian-origin college student from the US died in the Bahamas after accidentally falling from a hotel balcony just days before he was set to graduate.
Gaurav Jaisingh was a student at Bentley University, Waltham, Massachusetts and was in the Bahamas for an annual senior class trip when he died in the accident on Sunday.
Jaisingh was set to graduate later this week.
Bentley University said in a post on X that it's been a difficult few days and our community is feeling the emotional toll of the tragic loss of Gaurav Jaisingh '25.
Our hearts go out to Gaurav's family and friends.
We plan to honour Gaurav at the undergraduate commencement ceremony, scheduled for May 17.
According to a report in ABC News, Bentley University said in a statement that we share our deepest condolences with Gaurav's family, friends and loved ones.
While local authorities are investigating, it appears Gaurav accidentally fell from a balcony.
We will share more information when available while respecting his family's privacy.
This is an enormous tragedy for our community.
Bentley is providing resources for those who are impacted and encourages anyone who needs support to reach out to the university's counseling center, it added.

Regarding a possible reason why the security forces acted the way they did, Kunal said they believed the student was agitated. 'So they felt that in order to control him, they had to force him down, pin him to the ground. My only point is that there were enough Indians there. They could have called the Indian embassy, they could have provided legal help, they could have brought in a counsellor, or even a linguistic counsellor who could speak his language.' A massive manhunt is underway for a father after three young sisters in Washington were found dead. Paityn Decker, 9; Evelyn Decker, 8; and Olivia Decker, 5, were found murdered after being last seen leaving to be with their father, Travis Decker, on a "planned visitation," police said. Officials are now searching for Decker, 32, who is homeless. He has been living in his vehicle or at various motels or campgrounds in the area, officials said, according to ABC News. He is wanted for three counts of first-degree murder and one count of first-degree kidnapping. According to cops, Decker is a former member of the military with "extensive training' and may pose a "significant risk.' Authorities have been searching for Decker in various areas, including the area of Ingalls Creek and Valley High. Residents have been asked to take safety precautions by securing their homes and vehicles, remaining vigilant, and reporting any suspicious activity to 911 immediately. 'Law enforcement is searching for suspect Travis Decker in the area of Ingalls Creek and Valley High as he is believed to potentially be in this area,' the Chelan County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) said in a statement.
