Edward's Fun Fair at Crosskeys after Caerphilly Big Weekend
There was plenty of free parking when we arrived at Caerphilly Big Weekend early on Saturday (July 5) afternoon. It was busy, despite scattered showers on the day, and my son ran immediately to the Clown Inflatable.

He was allowed 10 minutes to blow off steam, with all the little ones having a blast, and it gave my friend and I the opportunity to indulge in Nutella and strawberry crepes from the food court – delicious and a much-needed energy boost for our shenanigans!
We didn't have to wonder what to do next for lunch – a showing of Punch and Judy was announced and families flocked to the show booth to enjoy the traditional puppet show. Children were transfixed by Mr Punch and his slapstick and even the adults chortled at parts (it was such a success my son insisted on watching a second showing later that day!)
The Fun Fair operated on a token basis and there was truly something for everyone! My son loved the monster trucks ride, opting for a Spider-Man vehicle, and ran straight to the Frozen teacup on the next ride! We had a laugh in the funhouse (including the mirror maze) and enjoyed the runaway train rollercoaster – but the dodgems were my personal favourite, with people of all ages crashing and bashing in the bright bumper cars.

Edward Danter's Fun Fair is versatile – along with rides for youngsters there's plenty for thrill-seekers including Oxygen, Venom and Superbowl. A casino offered arcade amusements – although we didn't win a Minecraft teddy on the prize claw, my son enjoyed the Hook a Duck and earned a brand-new sword and shield!

A bit of rain didn't dampen our spirits. It briefly quite heavy, but people took refuge in the clubhouse which had a warm, welcoming atmosphere and well-stocked bar. I'm alcohol free but treated my son to some crisps from the clubhouse (plus a hot dog from the food court while I enjoyed a mocha).
This was a brilliant day – my son left with stories to tell, toys to play with, and the distinctive mouth stains of a dummy lollipop!

Thousands showed up at Newport's ICC, with this year marking the events fourth edition. Tonnes of video game and pop culture references were jam packed inside. I loved her in Doctor Who it's just awesome.' Scottish actor Jimmy Vee is well known for playing various alien characters in Doctor Who and is also famed for his role as R2 D2 in The Force Awakens. He said: 'It's just meeting the people that come up! The fans and that are fantastic. They know more than I know!' Doctor Who and Star Wars actor Jimmy Vee at Comic Con Wales at Newport ICC (Image: NQ) This weekends star-studded line includes Supernatural's Misha Collins, Doctor Who's Billie Piper, Jimmy Vee and Michelle Gomez, Baywatch's Erika Eleniak, and Ian Cardoni, Harry Belden, and Spencer Grammer from Rick and Morty, just to name a few! A Storm Trooper at Comic Con Wales at Newport ICC (Image: NQ) Headlining the convention are Matrix legend Laurence Fishburne — famed for his role as Morpheus — and Peggy, the former stray who shot to stardom as Dogpool. Wrestling fans were also catered for as former WWE stars Kevin Nash, Amy Dumas (formerly known as Lita), and Jake 'The Snake' Roberts were also in attendance. The event will be in town from until Sunday, August 10.

Julie Fowlis' Outlander: Blood of my Blood theme song hits screens
Folk star Fowlis gained worldwide recognition as the singing voice for Merida in the Pixar animated film Brave in 2012. Now she is set to gain new fame with the stirring anthem to the show, which contains both English verses and lines in her native Gaelic. The original theme to Outlander, a reworking of the Skye Boat Song by composer Bear McCreary sung by Raya Yarbourgh, became a hit with the show's fans and was later re-recorded by the late Sinead O'Conner. Julie Fowlis (Image: NQ) Blood of My Blood's showrunner Matthew B. Roberts said that they wanted to go down a different route, and create a new song which had more 'energy'. He told the US media: "The Skye Boat song is very romantic from start to finish. But this time we wanted something that had some energy to it, with the drums and everything, going back to Clanadonia, which is this street band in Glasgow that we've always loved." Fowlis said that it had been a 'pleasure' to work on the song, which has been released today on the official soundtrack album. She said: 'It's been a pleasure to work on this new Outlander series Blood of my Blood with acclaimed composer Bear McCreary. 'The Outlander story continues to draw attention to Scottish history, storytelling and our beautiful landscapes and the series brings all this, and much more, to audiences worldwide. Claire's parents in World War I are played by Hermione Corfield and Jeremy Irvine . The first season of the series is set to run for ten episodes, and premieres tonight on Starz. In June 2025, the series was renewed for a second season ahead of the series premiere. Outlander author Diana Gabaldon, who is a consulting producer, will explore the couple's origins through their parents' perspectives – and with the series' trademark time-travel twist. The show's title is a nod to Jamie Fraser's marriage vow to Claire and there will be "several names and faces" Outlander fans will know and recognise.
