Flights hit after India strikes on Pakistan areas
Flights to India and Pakistan were disrupted following India launching strikes on Pakistan and Pakistani-administered Kashmir in the early hours of Wednesday morning in response to a deadly militant attack on tourists in Kashmir just over two weeks ago.
Pakistan has called this a "blatant act of war" as tensions escalate between the nuclear-armed arch rivals.
The divided Himalayan region is claimed by both India and Pakistan in its entirety.
India said its Operation Sindoor struck nine Pakistani sites on Wednesday that were "terrorist infrastructure" where attacks against it were orchestrated.
Islamabad has said six Pakistani locations were targeted, and a total of 24 impacts felt from different weapons.
Pakistan said eight people were killed, 35 injured and two were missing after the attack. A Pakistan military spokesperson told Reuters his country shot down five Indian aircraft while they were in Indian airspace. India has not confirmed this claim.
Flight operations at various Indian airports, particularly those close to the India-Pakistan border or in the vicinity of key Indian Air Force bases, have been impacted due to the developing situation and the consequent changes in airspace conditions.
With some of the airports — largely in north India — being closed for civil flight operations following the strikes against Pakistan, Indian airlines announced cancellation of flights to and from such airports for most of Wednesday. They also cautioned flyers that these disruptions are expected to have a network-wide impact, affecting flight schedules in other parts of the country as well.
Air India also diverted two of its international flights enroute from Amritsar to New Delhi.
Qatar Airways temporarily suspended flights to Pakistan.
Pakistan International Airlines said airborne flights had been diverted to Karachi, while those on ground have been put on hold.
Vietnam Airlines said that the tensions between India and Pakistan had affected its flight plans and would provide details regarding re-routing schedules later.
Korean Air said it had began rerouting its Seoul Incheon–Dubai flights on Wednesday, opting for a southern route that passes over Myanmar, Bangladesh, and India, instead of the previous path through Pakistani airspace.
Thai Airways said that flights to destinations in Europe and South Asia would be rerouted starting early Wednesday morning, warning this could cause delays to some flights.
Taiwan's China Airlines said it had activated its contingency plan and "taken a series of measures to ensure the safety of its passengers and crew." It did not elaborate. The website of Taiwan's main international airport at Taoyuan, outside of Taipei, showed that Wednesday's China Airlines non-stop flight to London had been canceled.

Philippines Grants Visa-Free Entry To Indian Tourists From June 8
Indian nationals can now enter the Philippines without a visa for up to 30 days under new immigration rules coming into effect on June 8, 2025, according to an advisory issued by the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General in Dubai. Under the revised visa policy quoted by the Filipino missions in the UAE, Indian passport holders can enter the Philippines without a visa for tourism purposes for up to 14 days, provided they meet the following requirements: a passport valid for at least six months beyond the intended stay, confirmed hotel accommodation or booking, proof of financial capacity and a return or onward ticket to another country. The 14-day stay is non-extendible and non-convertible, meaning tourists must exit the country before the end of the two-week period. However, Indian nationals holding valid and current visas or residence permits from the United States, Japan, Australia, Canada, Schengen states, Singapore or the United Kingdom (collectively known as AJACSSUK countries) are eligible for a visa-free stay of up to 30 days. This 30-day stay is also non-extendible, and travellers must present a valid passport and a return or onward ticket. Both categories require that the individual have no derogatory immigration record with the Philippine Bureau of Immigration (BI). The advisory clarifies that the visa-free entry privileges apply only to short-term tourism. 'Indian nationals transiting in the Philippines or entering the country for long-term visits and non-tourism activities are required to apply for an appropriate Philippine visa at a Philippine Embassy or Consulate in their country of origin, place of legal residence, or any country that requires entry visas for Indian nationals,' the advisory pointed out. The relaxed immigration policy is expected to benefit several Indian expats in the UAE.

Modi opens Kashmir rail link
Prime Minister Narendra Modi made his first visit to Kashmir yesterday since a conflict with arch-rival Pakistan, opening a strategic railway line to the region he called 'the crown jewel of India'. Modi launched a string of projects worth billions of dollars for the northern territory. Nuclear-armed India and Pakistan fought a four-day conflict last month, their worst standoff since 1999, before a ceasefire was agreed on May 10. 'Pakistan will never forget... its shameful loss,' the premier told crowds a month since India launched strikes on its neighbour after an attack on tourists in Kashmir. 'Friends, today's event is a grand festival of India's unity and firm resolve,' Modi said after striding across the soaring bridge to formally launch it for rail traffic. 'This is a symbol and celebration of rising India,' he said of the Chenab Bridge which connects two mountains. The Chenab span is the 'world's highest railway arch bridge', sitting 359 metres (1,117 feet) above a river. While several road and pipeline bridges are higher, Guinness World Records confirmed that Chenab trumps the previous highest railway bridge, the Najiehe in China. Modi called it 'an extraordinary feat of architecture' that 'will improve connectivity' by providing the first rail link from the Indian plains up to mountainous Kashmir. With 36 tunnels and 943 bridges, the new railway runs for 272 kilometres (169 miles) and connects Udhampur, Srinagar and Baramulla. It is expected to halve the travel time between the town of Katra in the Hindu-majority Jammu region and Srinagar, the main city in Kashmir, to around three hours. The new route will facilitate the movement of people and goods, as well as troops, that was previously possible only via treacherous mountain roads and by air.

Indian airline IndiGo orders 30 Airbus A350 widebody planes
India Indian airline IndiGo said yesterday it had signed an order for 30 more Airbus A350-900s, bringing its shopping list for the widebody aircraft from the European aircraft manufacturer to 60. 'We are placing a firm order for 30 Airbus A350- 900s,' said Pieter Elbers, the CEO of IndiGo, which was founded in 2006 and is behind the largest contract by volume in the history of civil aviation -- 500 Airbus single-aisle aircraft by 2023. The low-cost carrier, India's biggest by market share, is positioning itself as a significant player in the long-haul market.'This strategic move will enable IndiGo to spread its wings further and expand its long-haul international network,' the company said. Benoit de Saint-Exupery, Airbus commercial aircraft vice-president of sales, hailed 'IndiGo's incredible rise'. 'You have democratised flying in India, and now you want to expand internationally,' he said. The A350 planes, with ranges of up to 15,000 kilometres (9,300 miles), will allow it to expand its network further.
