Charles Barkley on NBA Finals Game 4: 'The Pacers blew this game... this is going to hurt'

Indianapolis Star13 hours ago

The Indiana Pacers had a seven-point lead in the fourth quarter and looked in control and on their way to a 3-1 series lead in the NBA Finals.
But then the offense went cold and stagnant, and the OKC Thunder closed like the best team in the NBA they are, finishing the game on a 12-1 run to snatch the game away with a 111-104 win and return home with a split in Indianapolis and homecourt advantage back in their hands.
Charles Barkley didn't pull any punches in his postgame analysis on NBA TV.
"No. 1, they gave it away," he said. "I thought you saw the difference between All-Stars guys and really good players and superstars. Shai (Gilgeous-Alexander) brought this thing home. Like, 'Yo big fella, bring this home.' And I have no idea what the Pacers were doing on the offensive end. Me and Grant (Hill) were going crazy like, 'Yo man, get it to (Pascal) Siakam, he's your best 1-on-1 player. They didn't even run a play for him... It was so frustrating. Grant, we can say all we want to about Oklahoma City — the Pacers blew this game."
Siakam, who led the Pacers in scoring with 20 points, took just one shot in the fourth quarter (a missed 3-pointer with 10 minutes left).
"This is going to hurt. This game is going to hurt the Pacers because they had this game under control, they were playing well. OKC was like, "OK, we might be in trouble,' then all of a sudden, they let them get close..."

Rudy Gobert Shares Cryptic Three-Word Message About His Timberwolves Future

Rudy Gobert Shares Cryptic Three-Word Message About His Timberwolves Future originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Minnesota Timberwolves were close to reaching the NBA Finals for their second-straight season, only to fall to the top team in the Western Conference, the Oklahoma City Thunder. Advertisement Due to another failed attempt, offseason moves seem likely, despite how much some fans might want to see the team's core players remain in place for a championship push. Last season saw the addition of Julius Randle via trade to the starting lineup, replacing Karl Anthony-Towns after many seasons. Randle played a key role as the former All-Star slid right into the frontcourt alongside big man Rudy Gobert. Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert (27).Bruce Kluckhohn-Imagn Images Gobert, a four-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year, spent nine seasons with the Utah Jazz before coming to Minnesota. He appeared in 72 games in the past season, averaging 12 points, 10.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.4 blocks per game. Advertisement In the team's Game 5 against the Thunder, he finished with just a field goal and five boards in 19 minutes on the hardwood. The game was a 30-point blowout, and his numbers weren't the inspiring sort of performance necessary to help stave off elimination. On Friday, he shared a message with fans amid his uncertain future with the Timberwolves. "To be continued...," was all Gobert wrote in his X message, which also included a photo of him huddled with teammates on the court and praying hands, wolf, and championship trophy emojis. As mentioned, the team could make significant changes to the roster. There's ongoing Kevin Durant trade talks, with a deal expected near the NBA Draft. The Timberwolves are among the select teams that could pull off a big deal for KD. Advertisement As trade rumors swirl, ESPN's Dave McMenamin speculated that a deal could include Gobert going to the Phoenix Suns to make salaries work. The team's other option is Randle, who they would probably prefer to keep with Durant and Anthony Edwards. Last year, ESPN's NBA insider Shams Charania reported that Gobert declined his $46.6 million player option and signed a contract extension to remain with the Timberwolves through the 2027-28 season. His recent message could suggest he believes he'll be a part of the team next season. However, adding a superstar of Durant's caliber would unite KD with Ant-Man, giving the team two of the league's best scorers, capable of taking over games. Fans probably wouldn't mind seeing that duo contending with the rest of the league's best. Gobert will likely learn what his future is with Minnesota in the next several weeks, as the team decides upon the best personnel to further contend for a championship. Mavericks sending strong Jason Kidd message to Knicks after denial: NBA insider

The Mavericks were not Kidd-ing around when they told the Knicks to look elsewhere for a coach. In case the flailing Knicks get the idea to circle back to the Mavericks about trading for coach Jason Kidd, it has been made clear that he is firmly unavailable — as if the first time they denied the Knicks permission to speak with Kidd while under contract wasn't clear enough. 'I think the most important thing here is the message that the Mavericks sent out here was not that his was a 'Nah.' This was a 'No.' They are not interested in further negotiations at all – 'Don't even call back' is the message they wanted out there,' ESPN's Brian Windhorst reported earlier this week. The belief around the NBA is that Kidd, who coached the Mavericks to the 2024 NBA Finals, is seeking a contract extension, sources told The Post's Stefan Bondy. If that deal doesn't get done, could Kidd make things uncomfortable enough to force his way out? Maybe, but the Knicks also offer nice leverage to get that deal done in Dallas. 3 The Mavericks don't plan to let Jason Kidd go. AP The Post previously reported that Kidd has fans in James Dolan and star Jalen Brunson, who played for him in Dallas,. The Knicks are onto their Plan Z options after receiving rejections to speak with coaches from the teams that currently employ Kidd, Billy Donovan (Bulls), Quin Snyder (Hawks), Ime Udoka (Rockets) and Chris Finch (Timberwolves). Former Villanova coach Jay Wright (retired) is not in the mix, while Dan Hurley (Connecticut) indicated he would not be in the running either. 3 Brian Windhorst revealed the Mavericks' strong reaction. @KevinGraySports/X Tom Thibodeau was fired without a clear plan of who would take over but the Knicks are not in a rush to fill the job as they cast a wide net and perform due diligence, The Post previously reported. Former Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins and the well-traveled Mike Brown – who coached the Cavaliers in the 2017 NBA Finals and was the 2023 NBA Coach of the Year for the Kings – are the favorites at this point and will soon interview for the opening. 3 NBAE via Getty Images Mike Budenholzer, Michael Malone and Frank Vogel are all NBA championship-winning coaches on the market. Malone has Knicks' ties and Bondy reported that he could get an interview but remains a long shot.

How 'competitive monster' Alex Caruso helped Thunder get Game 4 win over Pacers

How 'competitive monster' Alex Caruso helped Thunder get Game 4 win over Pacers INDIANAPOLIS — After another stellar performance that added to his playoff riser mythos, Alex Caruso was asked which superhero he relates to. He answered Robin because, of course, he did. The future head coach already has the media cliches down to a tee. Maybe Dick Grayson, though. Or The Incredible Hulk. Caruso finished with 20 points on 7-of-9 shooting and three rebounds. He shot 1-of-2 from 3 and went 5-of-7 on free throws. He also had five steals. The Oklahoma City Thunder won a thriller in a 111-104 Game 4 win over the Indiana Pacers. In a do-or-die scenario, OKC did just enough to accomplish its road trip goal and split the 2025 NBA Finals at 2-2 apiece. After failing to score 20 points once in the regular season, Caruso has done it twice in the NBA Finals. In the season's biggest fourth quarter, the Thunder trusted the 31-year-old to close as the fifth player. The move paid off as it was OKC's turn to have a 20-point bench scorer. But with Caruso, everybody knows his bread and butter is on defense. He was a beast on that end of the floor. Made any comparisons to TJ McConnell look silly. He's a fine ball player, but the 31-year-old can impact the game beyond three anomaly inbound steals. "I mean, he's a competitive monster clearly. He's proven that time and again over his career. Certainly in these playoffs," Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault said about Caruso. "He was huge tonight. Offensively even early in the game. But yeah, both ends, help on ball. I can't say enough about him as a competitor." Shai Gilgeous-Alexander expressed a similar sentiment. The MVP winner saw firsthand what Caruso's presence has done to the Thunder. Nothing against Josh Giddey, but he wouldn't have shifted the odds over to OKC in the fourth quarter with his off-ball activity. "I've said this before, but he has a championship ring for a reason. It's no coincidence. He knows what it takes. He put the work in. He's proving it every night," Gilgeous-Alexander said. "But he's a big-time performer. Big-time teammate. Big-time winner. If you want to win basketball games, you have a guy like that on your team. We're lucky to have him." This is why the Thunder traded for Caruso. He was a step ahead of the Pacers' passes. Their pass-happy offense hurt them against him. He had five steals by being a millisecond ahead of Indiana's next move. He continues to add chapters to his legendary playoff run. "The way that this place erupts when they go on runs or hit shots, you have to stay present and realize what the actual time and score of the game is. Like, I don't remember the play right before that, but I remember they're a little excited. I think somebody was shooting free throws," Caruso said. " When we came to the bench, it was a one-possession game. Even if it makes it, it's a two-possession game with almost four minutes to play. There's lot of possessions left in this game. We never wavered, never thought we might lose this game. We were concentrating on trying to win it, on trying to solve the puzzle, figure out a way to make plays down the stretch to win the game."
