James Cook, Bills Contract Standoff Receives Harsh Update originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Buffalo Bills entered the new NFL year with a big question to answer. James Cook is coming off his best season after posting 207 carries, racking up 1,009 yards and 16 touchdowns in 16 games.

He went from being a strong force to a scoring machine, helping the Bills play in the AFC championship game, where the Kansas City Chiefs stopped them again.
Amid an offseason in which the team gave Josh Allen a new $330 million contract and extended several members of the 2022 class, including linebacker Terrel Bernard, wide receiver Khalil Shakir and cornerback Christian Benford, Cook expressed his desire to win $15 million per campaign, as he entered his final year on his current deal.
Buffalo's management stated they aren't entertaining that possibility at the moment, putting Cook in a difficult position.

Amid his contract standoff, Cook opted to skip the voluntary OTAs at the end of May, sounding the alarms for the defending AFC East champions. Their mandatory minicamp is scheduled for June 10-12, which could be the breaking point of this relationship.

During Wednesday's edition of his "The Adam Schefter Podcast," the NFL insider shared a grim update on where things stand between Cook and his team. Schefter says that Cook will likely remain absent from his team's practice for the foreseeable future.
'You've got a guy who's unhappy with his contractual situation," Schefter said. "(He) has basically disconnected himself from the organization and the city, put his house up for sale...I don't think we'll be seeing him in Buffalo anytime soon. Again, the start of training camp will be the next critical moment. If they don't have a deal done there or by then, does James Cook show up for training camp? Does he risk the penalties that come along in the collective bargaining agreement if he doesn't show up?
Schefter then added how other teams with star running backs handled their situations differently.
"We've seen the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason reward Saquon Barkley, we've seen the Baltimore Ravens reward Derrick Henry. We have not seen the Buffalo Bills pay James Cook yet. James Cook is a valuable member of that offense."

The running back market experienced big changes thanks to Barkley, Henry and Cook's performances in 2024. They posted remarkable seasons that helped their teams compete in the playoffs, but only two of them have been given new deals.

Schefter Offers Gruesome Bills Prediction on James Cook

Schefter Offers Gruesome Bills Prediction on James Cook originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The business side of the NFL is heading the Buffalo Bills' offseason, with running back James Cook seeking a new contract as he enters the final year of his rookie deal. Advertisement But there's a big problem. The Bills, through re-signing other stars this offseason, despite Cook stating first he wanted a new deal, having only $1.6 million in cap space per Over The Cap. James wasn't at OTAs, which is, of course, voluntary, but there have been little breadcrumbs laid out by Cook, seemingly voicing his discontent at the lack of movement on a new deal. Now, ESPN's Adam Schefter is discussing it all in his podcast, offering a rather grim view of the situation between Buffalo and Cook. 'It bears watching because you've got a guy who's unhappy with this contractual situation, who has basically disconnected himself from the organization, the city, put his house up for sale,' Schefter said. 'I don't think we'll be seeing him in Buffalo anytime soon, and again, the start of training camp will be the next critical moment. Advertisement Buffalo's mandatory mini-camp will take place this week, and that will also serve as a test of Cook's mental state regarding his contract. Seen as one of the key offensive pieces for coordinator Joe Brady, this has the potential to get rather ugly the longer it goes without something being done. But Buffalo, barring some serious salary cap gymnastics, won't be able to get a deal done with the two-time Pro Bowler, and where that leaves Cook and the offense is unknown. And that isn't a good spot to be for a franchise aiming for Super Bowl glory. New Photo of Coveted Star Emerges Sparking Georgia Rumors

New Photo of Coveted Star Emerges Sparking Georgia Rumors originally appeared on Athlon Sports. One four-star recruit has been around the Georgia Bulldogs football program for years. But the Bulldogs have had to court the prospect just like everyone else. Advertisement On Saturday, though, four-star defensive lineman PJ Dean provided a little peak into what he would look like donning a Bulldogs uniform. "4-star DL PJ Dean sporting the Georgia uniform on his official visit," On3's Jeremy Johnson wrote as a social media caption to a picture of Dean in the black Georgia uniform. Over the weekend, Dean was set to work with Bulldogs defensive line coach Tray Scott. Dean was complimentary of the coach while speaking to Johnson before the visit. 'It's been smooth because coach Scott is a likable coach,' Dean told Johnson. 'He's definitely a cool, even-keeled guy. I was in the defensive line room, there wasn't really a lot of yelling going on. Advertisement "It was more of a stern, just, hey, he's teaching you. That's just the way he goes about things. I feel like all of them go about it like that, but he goes about it. I love it.' Georgia Bulldogs football head coach Kirby Smart© Stephen Lew-Imagn Images Dean's older brother, Jared Wilson, started at center for the Bulldogs last season. In April, the New England Patriots drafted Wilson in the third round. Originally, Dean was set to become an offensive lineman in college as well. But he recently switched his focus to defense. With his brother playing for the program, the Bulldogs could have the inside track on Dean. However, On3's Recruiting Prediction Machine projects the Ohio State Buckeyes to land the defensive lineman. Advertisement According to the 247 Sports composite rankings, Dean is the No. 7 defensive lineman and 68th-ranked recruit overall in the 2026 class. Advertisement "I'll miss this weekend's game [against Chicago], but after that, it's day by day and see how I feel and just kind of turn to the medical staff and see what they think,' Clark told reporters on Thursday. 'I feel like I've made a lot of progress, and I feel good. I'm not going to rush coming back. It's just not worth it. I'll be reevaluated and we'll have a better idea of when I'll return.' "I've never been in that position of getting to watch from the bench for an extended period of time,' the WNBA's reigning Rookie of the Year added. Advertisement 'I think you can learn the game of basketball the same amount. You turn on the TV and watch the NBA. Or you watch other WNBA games, that's the best way to learn basketball – just watch and absorb it. It's the same when I'm not active, too.' While Clark is once again watching from the bench, she showed up to the United Center in style. One fan simply wrote, "omg caitlin's fit!!!! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭." One person commented, "Omg this is my favorite look of hers that she has ever worn." One woman gushed, "OH SHE ATEEEE." Another fan added, "One of her best looks yet."
