Watch: Notre Dame's new starting quarterback CJ Carr's high school highlight reel

USA Today8 hours ago
While we haven't seen much of Notre Dame football's new starting quarterback CJ Carr at this level, we can go back and look at what he did in high school.
Coming out of Saline High School in Michigan, Carr was a nationally ranked prospect as the No. 68 overall recruit in the 2024 class according to the 247Sports Composite. Sure, we saw him during the past two years of Blue and Gold games, but those are set up for success for the quarterbacks.
During his final season of high school, Carr would throw for 2,754 yards with 24 touchdowns and 9 interceptions, while running for 91 yards, but accounting for 9 other scores. Over his three years starting, he threw for a total of 8,135 yards with 78 touchdowns and 18 interceptions, while accounting for 312 yards rushing and 16 scores.
Those are very impressive numbers from Carr, and hopefully he can replicate that success with the Irish. Check out below his senior year highlights, for a glimpse of what is to come when Notre Dame takes the field on the road against Miami at the end of the month.

Watch Michigan State football WR Rodney Bullard talk transition from D2 to Big Ten

Michigan State football is in the middle of camp, preparing itself for the 2025 season, looking to have a big bounce back year for Jonathan Smith in year two of his tenure at Michigan State. On Monday, Smith spoke to the media, along with Courtney Hawkins and Nick Marsh, but to round out the media availability was veteran wide receiver Rodney Bullard. Bullard, a transfer from Valdosta State, is in his first year with the Spartans program. While Bullard has been standing out in camp, he made it a point that he is hungry to prove himself at the top level of college football, coming from the division two level. ESPN's Football Power Index gives Spartans slim chances of reaching bowl

The computers and numbers behind ESPN's Football Power Index (FPI) are not high on the Spartans reaching a bowl game this season. While the Spartans' win total over/under is set at 5.5 (with some sports book juicing it to the over), the FPI rating system is giving Michigan State a less than 50-50 chance of reaching a bowl game this fall. According to a post from The Big Ten Huddle, the Spartans are given only a 31% chance to reach six wins to become bowl eligible. Among Big Ten teams, only Northwestern and Purdue have lower odds from FPI to reach a bowl game this season. Northwestern comes in at 27.8%, while Purdue is listed at a near impossible 1.8%. Michigan State is the only team from the Big Ten to not reach the postseason at least once in the last three years. The Spartans finished last season with a 5-7 record in year one under head coach Jonathan Smith, and are expecting a better record this upcoming season. The Spartans officially kick off the 2025 season on August 29 against Western Michigan. Kickoff from Spartan Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET, with the game set to be televised on FS1. Former Iowa baseball starter named Midwest League Pitcher of the Week

It was a week to remember for former Iowa baseball star pitcher Ty Langenberg. Langenberg was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 11th round of the 2023 MLB Draft. He's slowly been working his way up through their minor league system, now playing for the Cedar Rapids Kernels, the Twins' High-A affiliate. It's a great location for Langenberg, who's not far from Iowa City and gets to pitch in front of plenty of Hawkeye fans. And his latest performance on the mound was nothing short of incredible. Langenberg went seven innings, allowed no earned runs, and struck out seven batters last Wednesday against the Quad City River Bandits. That pitching performance was enough to earn him Midwest League Pitcher of the Week honors. Overall, in this season with the Kernels, Langenberg has started 18 games, posting a 4-5 record with a 4.43 ERA and a 1.45 WHIP. He has 85 strikeouts to just 42 walks, a solid 2:1 strikeout to walk ratio. And with the Twins organization seemingly looking to go in a younger direction with their roster, Langenberg could see a promotion to Double-A before too much longer. This was a great performance from Langenberg and hopefully one he can build on going forward. Iowa fans will be rooting for the former Hawkeye to rocket through the system and hopefully pitch with the big league club at some point soon.
