Trump, Putin speak via phone about Israel-Iran conflict
President Trump spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday over the phone for 50 minutes, where the two leaders discussed the Israel-Iran conflict and negotiations to end the three-year war in Ukraine, according to the Kremlin.
Putin told Trump about his Friday conversations with both Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian, the 'importance of preventing the escalation' in the Middle East and that Russia is ready to carry out mediation efforts if needed, according to Putin's aide Yuri Ushakov.
Trump, according to Ushakov, 'assessed' the situation in the Middle East as 'very alarming' and 'acknowledged the effectiveness' of Israel's strikes on Iran that have resulted in the killing of a number of Tehran's military leaders and dozens of nuclear scientists.
Trump confirmed that the two presidents mostly talked about the back-and-forth between Israel and Iran but also touched on the developments in the Russia-Ukraine war.
'We talked at length. Much less time was spent talking about Russia/Ukraine, but that will be for next week,' Trump wrote in a Saturday post on Truth Social, adding that Putin 'feels, as do I, this war in Israel-Iran should end, to which I explained, his war should also end.'
Trump expressed his willingness to continue negotiations with Iran over the Islamic Republic's rapidly expanding nuclear program. Trump's Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff was slated to speak with his counterpart, Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi, on Sunday in Muscat, Oman, marking the sixth round of discussions between the two sides. After Israeli strikes, which began Thursday night, Iranian officials pulled out of the talks.
The meeting will not take place on Sunday, a senior U.S. administration official said Friday, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss diplomatic talks.
The official added that the administration remains 'committed to talks and hope the Iranians will come to the table soon.'
A senior White House official told The Hill's sister network NewsNation that 'we have the ability to negotiate a successful peaceful resolution to this conflict if Iran is willing.'
'The fastest way for Iran to accomplish peace is to give up its nuclear weapons program,' the official added on Saturday.
Putin also spoke to Trump about the implementation of the agreements reached between the Russian and Ukrainian delegations during their meeting on June 2 in Turkey, according to Ushakov.
Ushakov added that the Kremlin is ready to continue talks with Ukraine and that Trump expressed his willingness to end the largest land war in Europe since World War II.
Trump said on Saturday that Putin is 'doing the planned prisoner swaps – large numbers of prisoners are being exchanged, immediately, from both sides' and added that the conversation lasted 'approximately 1 hour.'
Trump wrote that Putin 'very nicely' wished him a happy birthday.

Klobuchar says her security has increased without her request after Minnesota shooting
Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) said her security was increased without her request following the fatal shooting of Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman (D) and her husband over the weekend. During an interview on NBC's 'Meet The Press,' host Kristen Welker asked if Klobuchar knew whether she was on the list of targets, which included 'prominent pro-choice individuals in Minnesota,' an official who has seen the list told The Hill's sister network NewsNation. Klobuchar responded that, although she does not have confirmation as to whether she was included on the list, her security was increased without her request. 'So I just know that they have added security without my request. So I think they're concerned about everyone. I don't have confirmation of that,' she said. Klobuchar also called the shooter, 57-year-old Vance Boelter, 'a murderous, murderous man.' 'He will know no limits, whether you're on the list, whether you're not,' she said. 'He may change what he's focused on, and that's what we're most concerned about right now is that the next person not a political person, but a person he just encounters?' Klobuchar noted that Boelter, who escaped during a shootout with police at the house of state Sen. John Hoffman (D) and his wife after shooting and wounding them, may still be in the Midwest area, noting officials also put out an alert for South Dakota. Despite the shooting, Klobuchar said she is not concerned about her personal safety, saying she and other lawmakers have received threats before. 'I believe that our local law enforcement and the capitol police and the like will protect us,' she said.

Ukraine drone attack on Russia's Tatarstan region leaves at least 1 dead, 13 injured
One person was killed and 13 others wounded Sunday in a Ukrainian drone attack in Russia's Tatarstan region, local authorities said. Regional Gov. Rustam Minnikhanov said the drone was destroyed, but falling debris ignited a fire and struck a vehicle manufacturing plant in the Yelabuga district, some 750 miles (1,200 kilometers) from the frontline. Russia's defense ministry said it shot down six Ukrainian drones overnight. Russia launched 183 drones and decoys, along with 11 missiles, at Ukraine overnight, according to the Ukrainian air force, which said its air defenses destroyed 111 drones and eight missiles, while another 48 drones were jammed. Officials in the Poltava region said the overnight attack damaged energy and agricultural infrastructure, but there were no casualties. Continuing a renewed battlefield push along eastern and northeastern parts of the more than 600-mile front line, the Russian Defense Ministry claimed Sunday that its troops captured another village in the Donetsk region, Malynivka. The Ukrainian military had no immediate comment on the Russian claim. The continued attacks came a day after Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump held a lengthy call , during which Trump said that he pressed Putin to end the war in Ukraine . In other developments, Russia repatriated more bodies of fallen soldiers in line with an agreement reached during peace talks in Istanbul between Russian and Ukrainian delegations, Russian officials said Sunday, cited by Russian state media. The officials said Ukraine did not return any bodies to Russia on Sunday. Ukraine's Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War confirmed in a statement that Russia returned 1,200 bodies. The agreement to exchange prisoners of war and the bodies of fallen soldiers was the only tangible outcome of the June 2 Istanbul talks. The first round of the staggered exchanges took place on Monday. ___ Follow the AP's coverage of the war at Error! Sorry, there was an error processing your request. Stars turn out for 'No Kings' protests: Mark Ruffalo, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and more
Hollywood stars made their voices heard on a day of protest against President Donald Trump. Mark Ruffalo, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Glenn Close were among the celebrities who marched in "No Kings Day" protests around the country on Saturday, June 14. The rallies against the Trump administration occurred on the same day that the president held a controversial military parade in Washington, marking the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army. Both events also corresponded with Flag Day and Trump's 79th birthday. Ruffalo turned out at a rally in New York, where he delivered a passionate speech. The "Avengers" actor, who was joined by "Broad City" stars Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson, said that the Trump administration is "trampling on our rights and our laws and our freedoms," adding, "We're gonna have to be brave if we want to be free." The actor also told his fellow protesters, "It's on us, guys. Literally, together, we're the Avengers now. No one's going to come and save us, man. Americans unite." Susan Sarandon was photographed attending the same New York rally as Ruffalo and marching alongside him, holding an American flag. Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle. She posed for a photo with Kerry Washington, who shared several pictures of herself with fellow rally-goers "marching, speaking up, and fighting for Democracy." In an Instagram video, Close said she was "happy to be" demonstrating in Bozeman, Montana, and joining those standing up "for the America that we know and love." Jimmy Kimmel attended a rally in Los Angeles with his parents and shared a photo of himself on Instagram wearing a handmade shirt that read "Make America Good Again." He wrote that he met "many people who love this country and still believe it to be a force for good." "I know how fortunate I am to have been born into a family that taught me to care about others and that the most important words ever spoken are 'Love one another,' " Kimmel said. "It really is as simple as that." Other stars who took part in the protests include Sarah Silverman, who shared photos where she held a sign that read, "No Kings Yas Queens," and Ayo Edebiri, who in a photo shared to her Instagram Stories marched with a sign that read, "Don't Tread On Us You Creeps!"
