Auburn star earns PGA Tour Card after sensational sophomore season
Although Auburn couldn't quite get over the hump to repeat as the National Champions this golf season, the Tigers best golfer, sophomore Jackson Koivun, ended his extraordinary season with a coveted piece of hardware.
The two-time SEC Golfer of the Year finished in fourth place overall during the stroke play portion of the NCAA Championships, giving him more than enough points to surpass the 20 total needed to acquire a PGA Tour Card through the PGA Tour University Accelerated program.
The program, which is designed to award juniors who accumulate 20 points through played events during their first three years of college golf, was finished by Koivun in just two seasons. Now with immediate eligibility to play PGA Tour events, the 20-year-old could choose to end his Tigers career after just two short years if he opts to become a professional.
But Koivun, who has vocally pronounced his love for the Plains in the past, recently told Golfweek he would delay defer his card until 2026, again stating "he loves Auburn" before stating how he believes college golf "is in such a good spot right now and it's going to continually prepare [him] for the PGA Tour."
Koivun is now the third collegiate golfer to earn his PGA Card through the accelerated program. Alabama native and former Vanderbilt star Gordon Sargent and former Florida State golfer Luke Clanton are the only other golfers to successfully finish the program.

PGA Tour suspends BMW Championship 1st round at Caves Valley because of weather
The first round of the BMW Championship at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills was suspended because of rain at 2:35 p.m., the PGA Tour announced. It's unclear how long the delay in play will last. Inclement weather held off for much of the day, as 13 players finished their first rounds before thunderstorms rolled into the region. Viktor Hovland shot a 3-under par 67 to take the clubhouse lead while avoiding any rain. Scottie Scheffler, who leads the FedEx Cup standings entering the second leg of the three-event playoffs, was among those with golf left to play when the horn was sounded to call players inside. His round was paused through 14 holes, with him sitting at 1-under par. Friday's weather forecast calls for a 40% chance of afternoon thunderstorms. Saturday and Sunday's weather forecasts call for more intense heat — Sunday's high is 93 with humidity expected to be over 60% — but the chance of rain each day is 20% or below, according to the National Weather Service. CBS Sports predicts Clemson football's bowl game and CFP fate entering 2025 season
The Clemson Tigers made a dramatic return to the College Football Playoff last season after a four-year absence. On the same day Clemson lost a late 14-10 fourth-quarter lead to rival South Carolina to suffer its third loss of 2024, the Tigers got an 11th-hour pardon when Syracuse pulled a stunning upset of No. 6 Miami to send Dabo Swinney's team to the ACC Championship Game for a matchup against SMU. The Tigers memorably defeated the Mustangs on Nolan Hauser's 56-yard field goal, an ACC title game record, as time expired in a thrilling 34-31 victory that sent them to the expanded 12-team playoff. While Clemson would fall to the Texas Longhorns in the first round of the CFP to finish 10-4, the Tigers now enter 2025 as a bonafide national championship contender with one of the most talented rosters in the nation. They're ranked No. 6 in the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll and No. 4 in the preseason AP poll. Don't expect Clemson to be absent from the 12-team playoff field come December, says CBS Sports. In the outlet's preseason bowl projections on Thursday, analyst Brad Crawford laid out his prediction for where quarterback Cade Klubnik and company will land in the 2025 postseason picture. CBS Sports has Clemson repeating as ACC champions and being the No. 3 seed in the playoff behind No. 1 seed Texas and No. 2 Penn State. Crawford projects the Tigers to meet either the Alabama Crimson Tide or Boise State Broncos in the Orange Bowl on New Year's Day. "Dabo Swinney's right -- he might have a roster capable of churning along from beginning to end without a loss this season. That's certainly a high-end projection for a program trying to get back to the playoff with quality wins in and outside of the ACC, but with a Heisman candidate at quarterback and potentially three first-rounders on defense, the iron is hot." --Brad Crawford, CBS Sports. For Klubnik, his first college start came in Clemson's 31-14 loss to No. 6 Tennessee in the 2022 Orange Bowl. He was 30-of-54 with 320 yards through the air while rushing 20 times for 51 yards and a touchdown. Clemson opens the 2025 season against the LSU Tigers at Memorial Stadium in prime time on Aug. 30. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. The game will be televised on ABC. LSU is ranked No. 9 in both the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll and AP Top 25. Auburn pledge Jaquez Wilkes named to Alabama Mr. Football watchlist
Auburn football commitment Jaquez Wilkes had an incredible 11th-grade campaign in 2024, which included a stellar state championship game performance that saw him register 312 rushing yards and five touchdowns in addition to his 10 tackles and an interception stat line on defense. Wilkes, a 2026 prospect from Wadley, Alabama, aims to step his game up as a senior and etch his name into the AHSAA record books before making his way to the Plains. If that happens, it could result in him winning a prestigious individual award. Maxwell Donaldson of the Gadsden Times and Jaeden Day of the Montgomery Advertiser recently shared their picks for names to watch in the race for Alabama's Mr. Football Award, and included the Tigers' top 2026 pledge. Wilkes is a prime candidate for the award due to his two-way abilities and his high school, Wadley, entering the year as the favorites to win the AHSAA Class 1A title. The two-way star is one of the top in-state players in the Auburn class. While he plays for Class 1A Wadley, they are the title favorites, which could help his case. He ran for 2,582 yards and 37 touchdowns while recording more than 100 tackles. Standing out on both sides of the ball could be enough to rise above the stigma of playing Class 1A ball. Wilkes became Auburn's top-rated commitment to its 2026 class on July 21, choosing the Tigers over Texas A&M, Miami, Florida State, and Alabama. If Wilkes were to win this year's award, he would become the 11th Auburn signee to earn the honor. Wide receiver Freddy Weygand was the first Auburn pledge to win the award in 1983, with fellow Tigers such as Demarco McNeil, Cadillac Williams, Brandon Cox, and Kerryon Johnson following suit. Bo Nix was the last Auburn signee to win the award, doing so in 2018 as a senior at Pinson Valley High School.
