Madras High Court refuses to restrain govt from rolling out ‘Nalam Kaakkum Stalin'
The plea for an interim injunction against the launch of the scheme was made by senior counsel Vijay Narayan, representing former AIADMK minister C Ve Shanmugam, before the first bench of Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava and Justice Sunder Mohan, during the hearing of the petitions filed by the latter and an advocate, Iniyan, praying for orders to injunct the government from using the name 'Stalin' in the 'Ungaludan Stalin' scheme.
Shanmugam also sought the court to issue directions to the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the Committee on Content Regulation in Government Advertising to take necessary action against the DMK under Paragraph 16A of the Election Symbols (Reservation and Allotment) Order, 1968, and consequently forbear the Tamil Nadu Public Secretary from using the name 'Stalin' in relation to the activities of the scheme emanating from the GO dated June 19, 2025.

DMK president and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Sunday charged the AIADMK with having 'surrendered' Tamil Nadu's autonomy during its previous rule by supporting the Centre's policies such as the NEET and the UDAY scheme. He accused AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami of 'betraying' the people of Tamil Nadu by aligning with the BJP. Mr. Stalin urged the cadre to honour the legacy of DMK patriarch and former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi by participating in a tribute rally on August 7, the latter's death anniversary, towards his memorial at Marina beach in Chennai and to pledge their commitment to securing victory in the 2026 Assembly election. Recalling Karunanidhi's initiatives for the uplift of the poor and society as a whole, he said: 'Carrying forward his legacy, our Dravidian Model government has implemented schemes such as the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam, Naan Mudhalvan, Pudhumai Penn, Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam, and Innuyir Kappom. Several States across the country have followed our initiative.'

DMK govt. failed to enact law against caste killings, alleges Tamilisai
BJP leader and former Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Sunday said the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu had failed to enact a law against caste-hatred induced murders, despite being in power for the fifth time. Speaking to mediapersons in Chennai, Dr. Tamilisai alleged, 'Even after ruling the State for so many years, it is a shame that the DMK government has not been able to uphold social justice and enact a law against caste-hatred-induced murders.' She said the people of Tamil Nadu were struggling every day to make a living and ensure their safety. Referring to the launch of the 'Ungaludan Stalin' camps, she said though health camps were being conducted as a part of the initiative, the condition of government hospitals remained poor. Dr. Tamilisai also claimed the Union government had been supporting Tamil Nadu's development, but Chief Minister M.K. Stalin had made it a norm to blame the Centre. 'The Chief Minister should understand that a confrontational attitude with the Centre is not good. Had Kalaignar [M. Karunanidhi] been alive, he would have maintained a cordial relationship with the Centre despite ideological differences.' On the exit of the former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam-led camp from the National Democratic Alliance, she said, 'It is my opinion that he could have handled his political moves more patiently.'
