Luis Reece led Derbyshire's victory charge as they rolled over Kent before lunch on the final day of the County Championship Division Two match at Derby.
The all-rounder picked up two wickets to claim outstanding figures of 3-21 from 10 overs as they beat the visitors by an innings and 14 runs
After Zak Chappell struck with the first ball of the day, Kent folded in feeble fashion, losing four wickets in eight overs, to slump to 247-9, with the injured Jake Ball unable to bat.
It was Derbyshire's second win of the season, taking them above Glamorgan to second in the table, while Kent have now lost four matches in a row.
Their slide to another defeat started when Tawanda Muyeye was caught behind taking on a short ball from Chappell.
Muyeye clearly thought it had come off his shoulder but given his side were still 104 runs behind with three wickets already down, it was not a great shot for the situation.
That was a straightforward catch for Brooke Guest but the wicketkeeper took a much sharper one five overs later standing up to Reece when Chris Benjamin pushed forward and edged into his gloves.
Kent's hopes of at least frustrating Derbyshire now rested with Jack Leaning and Harry Finch but the pair were quickly parted with Reece celebrating a second success of the morning.
Leaning failed to get over a drive and substitute fielder Nick Potts took a good tumbling catch diving forward at deep mid-off.
Derbyshire were now all over the visitors and in the next over, Finch went to turn Anuj Dal off his legs but the ball came off his thigh pad and onto the stumps.
Matt Parkinson had resisted well as nightwatchman in the first innings but this time he lasted only seven balls before he went half forward to Jack Morley and was lbw.
Grant Stewart struck some muscular blows, pulling Pat Brown for six, but the end came 15 minutes before the interval when he sliced the fast bowler to third man where Potts pulled off a superb diving catch.

Seventh-Round Pick Looking to Make Mark with Steelers: ‘I Just Have a Dawg Mentality'
PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers' seventh-round pick Donte Kent is looking to make his mark with the team. So far at OTAs, he's primarily played in the nickel. 'Most of my time is in the nickel right now,' Kent said. 'I think I can play inside or outside, but I feel comfortable in (the nickel). We'll see where it goes.' Advertisement The Steelers selected Kent with their second pick in the seventh round, No. 229 overall, in the 2025 NFL Draft. A four-year starter at Central Michigan and three-time All-MAC honoree, Kent brings intrigue as a developmental prospect with notable athletic traits. Best known for his speed, Kent ran a 4.38-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine. He also made an impact in the return game, ranking fifth in the nation with an average of 13.5 yards per punt return. His quickness and agility made him particularly effective in man coverage, where he excelled at mirroring slot receivers. In 53 career games at Central Michigan, Kent made 234 tackles (171 solo), 4.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sack, two interceptions, 47 pass breakups, 49 passes defended, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, and a blocked kick. 'I just have a dawg mentality,' Kent said about his ball-hawk traits. 'That ball is my ball. My mindset is I'm going to go make a play on the football every pass thrown my way.' Advertisement Kent's brother, Desmond, played at Robert Morris, while his other brother, Ronald, is in the Canadian Football League on the British Columbia Lions. Kent, who's the youngest child on his mom's side, credits his brothers for making him tougher. 'I'm the baby on my mom's side. I have three older brothers. In my opinion, they all could play professional football. It just ain't work out that way for everybody. It's been a competitive household whether we're playing Madden, playing football out on the street, wrestling in the house. Whatever we're doing, it's always been competitive. And me being the baby, they always picked on me a little bit. Nothing crazy but they picked on me. That built the toughness that I have right now and the competitive nature that I have, as well. All credit to my brothers.' Kent also credits his time at Harrisburg (Pa.) High School for building his character. 'At Harrisburg, we breed dawgs. We breed dawgs still to this day. We're breeding dawgs, and that just carried over when I got into college,' Kent said. 'Playing at Harrisburg we're a lot of people don't make it out, it just motivates me still to this day. To show people that there's always a better life out there.' Advertisement As with fellow seventh-round pick Carson Bruener, Kent's special teams performance could be a key factor in what dictates whether he makes the 53-man roster. He is expected to compete for a role as a gunner on punt coverage and as a return specialist—both roles he thrived in during his time in college. While expectations are modest for Kent entering his rookie season, the Steelers have a history of finding value in late-round and undrafted defensive backs. Kent beat holders Gloucestershire in Blast thriller as Somerset see off Surrey
Zak Crawley played his part in an explosive Kent batting display which was enough to ensure Gloucestershire started the defence of their Vitality Blast crown with a four-run loss. Crawley smashed four maximums in a rapid 37 from 17 balls while Daniel Bell-Drummond top-scored for hosts Kent with 60 in an imposing total of 208 for three in Canterbury. Advertisement It proved too much for Gloucestershire but only just as late hitting by Ben Charlesworth (38) revived their hopes before two for 22 by Tom Rogers made sure the champions got their South Group campaign under way with a defeat after being restricted to 204 for seven. Somerset won a repeat of last year's semi-final with Surrey despite a fine innings of 92 by former England opener Jason Roy. Roy, who last played for his country in 2023, scorched a scintillating 92, but received little support as Surrey limped to 146 for nine. Overseas pace duo Matt Henry and Riley Meredith claimed three-wicket hauls for 2024 runners-up Somerset, who won by five wickets with 13 balls to spare after Will Smeed led the way at the top of the order with 35. James Vince (62) was one of three Hampshire batters to pass fifty and it helped his team post a mammoth 230 for seven. A superb individual display by David Willey inspired Northamptonshire to a 13-run victory over former club Yorkshire in another run fest. Northamptonshire captain Willey struck 54 and along with Justin Broad's 67 it helped the away side make 237 for four at Headingley. Both James Wharton and Will Sutherland hit 58 for Yorkshire, but three for 42 for Willey made sure his new team fought back to limit the hosts to 224 for nine. A mature innings from Pakistan captain Masood endured Leicestershire chased their target with minimal fuss with Pat Brown, who earned an England Lions recall last winter, smashed for 47 off his 2.4 overs.
