Mmodi was effective in front of goal, and his tireless runs and relentless pressure down the flanks played a key role in keeping Pirates pinned back — particularly during a second half that Chiefs unexpectedly controlled.
The winger finished as Chiefs' top scorer in the competition, netting four goals and firmly staking his claim as one of the standout players of the tournament.

The hard-tackling center-back was the anchor in Amakhosi's defense throughout their Nedbank Cup run. While Chiefs struggled for defensive consistency in the league, his presence brought much-needed stability — and in the four matches he featured, they conceded just two goals.
His leadership and composure were especially vital in containing a dangerous Pirates attack filled with pace and flair.
Beyond his defensive contributions, his cool head from the penalty spot proved equally valuable. He played a crucial role in Chiefs' path to the final, finishing the tournament with an impressive three goals.

It was a mixed campaign for the Buccaneers, but the emergence of 19-year-old Mbekezeli Mbokazi was a major positive. Since making his first appearance in the quarter-finals against SuperSport United, he has impressed with his strength in defense and surprising maturity.
Not only did he stand up to some of the best attacks in the competition, but he also showed his offensive instincts with a crucial goal in the quarter-final that went to penalties.
Despite the final defeat, Mbokazi was one of Pirates' best performers on the day and looks set to play a central role in the club's plans next season.

The veteran midfielder was the glue in Pirates' engine room, playing all five matches and anchoring the midfield with determination and grit.
While his offensive contribution remains limited, his partnerships with Kabelo Dlamini and Thalente Mbatha gave the Buccaneers a strong midfield base through the tournament.
His gap in midfield was felt after being substituted, as Chiefs found the winner late on—a moment that perhaps exposed the leadership and defensive cover Makhaula typically provides.

Amakhosi captain Yusuf Maart has faced his fair share of criticism for underwhelming performances over the past season. And while his overall impact in the Nedbank Cup campaign may have been limited, he delivered when it mattered most — producing what could be considered Kaizer Chiefs' most defining moment in the last decade.
The former Pirates development player came back to haunt his former youth club, scoring the dramatic winner with just ten minutes remaining, sealing the 2–1 victory and ending Chiefs' long-standing trophy drought.

Kaizer Chiefs set sights on free agent sensation Velebayi again

Kaizer Chiefs have reignited their pursuit of exciting winger Asanele Velebayi, now a free agent after Cape Town Spurs' dramatic relegation to the Western Cape ABC Motsepe League. Amakhosi are determined not to miss out on the 22-year-old again after their previous attempt to sign him before the 2024/2025 season collapsed. Back then, Cape Town Spurs, known as the Urban Warriors, refused to let go of one of their brightest prospects. But circumstances have changed, and Chiefs are ready to act. Spurs were recently relegated after losing a legal battle involving Durban City and their player Sazi Magawana. The ruling had a domino effect on the club's status, freeing Velebayi from his contract and placing him firmly on the radar of top-tier teams. Velebayi's representatives had been awaiting the outcome of the case before weighing up options for his next move. With the situation now clear, negotiations have kicked off, and Kaizer Chiefs are one of the first clubs to show serious intent. While Velebayi's name has drawn interest from multiple teams, it's the Soweto giants who appear most determined to bring him onboard. 'Several clubs have expressed interest in the talented young winger,' said a source. 'But Chiefs are hopeful they can secure his signature.' The winger's camp is actively seeking the best fit for his career, and a final decision is expected imminently. Chiefs are looking to strengthen their attacking options after a lacklustre season in front of goal. Adding Velebayi, known for his blistering pace and sharp footwork, would mark a significant boost to their squad depth. 'If successful, Velebhayi's signing would be a good signing for Chiefs,' the source confirmed. Let us know by leaving a comment below or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1. Kaizer Chiefs in secret talks to sign goal machine Steven Mukwala

Kaizer Chiefs have set their sights on prolific Ugandan striker Steven Dese Mukwala, with a source confirming the club's growing intent to secure his signature ahead of the next transfer window. When head coach Nasreddine Nabi was spotted at the KMC Complex in Tanzania during the Simba vs Singida clash, he wasn't just there for show, he was watching Mukwala in action. The 25-year-old striker has been a standout performer this season, and his presence on the pitch clearly caught Nabi's attention. Behind the scenes, things moved swiftly. Chiefs' head of scouting and recruitment, Thembela Maliwa, alongside Nabi's assistant Cedric Kaze, held a secret meeting with Mukwala's agent at a private hotel in Dar es Salaam. The agenda? A potential move to Naturena. 'Chiefs have a strong interest in the Ugandan striker and are ready to make an offer to sign him,' a source confirmed. However, any immediate deal could face a delay. Simba SC President Mo Dewji has reportedly instructed the club not to entertain transfer negotiations for Mukwala, until the conclusion of the current Tanzanian season, which is the 22 of June 2025. But Kaizer Chiefs aren't the only ones circling. Newly crowned CAF Confederation Cup winners RS Berkane have also made formal enquiries following the final in Zanzibar. The Moroccan outfit are said to be preparing a R5.3 million bid to lure the striker north. Mukwala's statistics this season highlight exactly why he's attracting so much interest. He has bagged 12 goals and delivered three assists, making him one of the most efficient forwards on the continent. To add to that, the ex-Asante Kotoko forward remains under contract until June 2027. With two major clubs now vying for his services and more potentially to come, Mukwala has become one of the most in-demand strikers in African football. Once the Tanzanian season ends, expect a transfer showdown. Will Steven Dese Mukwala fit in at Kaizer Chiefs or RS Berkane? Let us know by leaving a comment below or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1.
