Stretch of Highway 11 re-opened, shelter-in-place order lifted while investigation continues
Ontario Provincial Police also lifted an order to the public—including anyone who might be caught in traffic due to the closure—to shelter in place and to stay in their vehicles with the doors locked.
There was heavy police presence in the area this morning, with one car towed from a ditch in the southbound direction. Police presence has thinned out as of Tuesday afternoon, but they are expected to remain in the area while they investigate the incident.
The highway was closed between Severn River Road and Coopers Falls Road, and between Canning Road and Graham Road.
Police are not releasing any other information at this time. They are asking the public to report any suspicious activity.

Man charged with aggravated assault in connection with weekend stabbing

Murder charge laid in Port Alberni homicide

Police provided few details about the incident at the time, only saying officers responded to a report of a found body in Dry Creek Park around 5:45 p.m. on June 16, and located a 'deceased person with apparent injuries.' In an update Monday, the Port Alberni RCMP said a suspect was arrested on Aug. 7 and formally charged with murder the following day. The accused, William Shane Watts, remains in custody and is next due to appear in court on Aug. 22. Police asked anyone who witnessed the incident or has information to call the detachment at 250-723-2424.
