PMX must be careful with what he wishes for after he mocks opposition to table no confidence motion

'IF HE is as gutsy as he has sounded, then Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim should hold a secret vote of no confidence which is free from (party) whip restrictions. But he's unlikely to do so.'
Such is the challenge threw at PMX yesterday (July 22) by Bersatu information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz after he dared the opposition to bring on a vote of no-confidence in Parliament if they plan to remove him from power.
This came about after PMX told a gathering of the Prime Minister's Department staff in Putrajaya that he had reminded the police not to block this Saturday's PAS-inspired Turun Anwar rally
This is when he insinuated that he would be waiting for the motion of no confidence with yesterday (July 21) being the first day of the Dewan Rakyat session.
'If there is a majority, if there are enough numbers, go ahead,' he challenged.
Elaborating on his proposed secret vote of no confidence without party whip restrictions, Tun Faisal said this was the quickest way to unseat PMX.
'If we hold a vote of no confidence in secret today without (party) whip restrictions, tomorrow, God willing, the country will have PM11 and a new government,' he said in a comment to a Malaysiakini Facebook post entitled 'Anwar Signals Gov't Will Allow Vote of No confidence in Parliament'.
'With reference to the previous Langkah Dubai (Dubai Move), the government had claimed that the PM11 candidate from the opposition bloc could secure up to 123 votes.
'Since Anwar is highly unlikely to hold a vote of no confidence in secret and free from (party) whip restrictions, then on July 26 the rakyat shall continue to gather and demand that Anwar steps down and resign.'
Interestingly, PMX's latest gesture of turning the tables on the opposition received mixed responses with some reminding the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition that PMX has thrown the ball back to their court while some cautioned PMX to be extra careful with what he wishes for.
Some even wondered if the opposition has the guts to push through the no confidence motion while others are wary if the 'backdoor government gang' of Tan Sri Muhyidin Yassin (Bersatu president) and Tan Sri Hadi Awang would make a comeback.
Others went on the lambast the opposition for being 'weak' and unable to play 'a proper check and balance role'. – July 22, 2025

PAS ready to provide legal aid for civil servants attending rally

Tuan Ibrahim (center) was met after the Pre-Gathering Talk for the "Turun Anwar" event at the Negeri Sembilan level. SEREMBAN: PAS is prepared to offer legal services to civil servants who may face action for participating in the Himpunan Turun Anwar scheduled for this Saturday (July 26). According to Sinar Harian, Deputy President of PAS, Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said that it was the right of every individual, including civil servants, to assemble, as guaranteed by the Constitution. "The right of people to assemble is guaranteed in the Constitution. Therefore, when the Constitution guarantees it, there should not be other rules that contradict it. "Even civil servants have the right to assemble, and in the past, many groups, such as doctors, have gathered. "So if action is taken against them, each party is ready to provide support. God willing, we are confident that many will assist," he said. He made these remarks after the Ceramah Pra Himpunan Turun Anwar Peringkat Negeri Sembilan on Wednesday (July 23). However, he advised each rally participant to follow set rules, particularly to avoid using weapons and engaging in provocative actions. He also expressed gratitude to the former Chief Justice, Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat, for restoring the people's right to assemble. "Our rally is called a peaceful assembly, and we thank the former Chief Justice because before retiring, she clarified the rights of the people to assemble. "The police have the right to impose restrictions, but it should suffice to ensure that unwanted incidents do not occur, as it is the police's responsibility," he added. Reflecting on the public's sentiment, especially following the Prime Minister's appreciation announcement yesterday, Tuan Ibrahim expects an even larger turnout than PAS's previous target of 300,000 people. Additionally, he did not dismiss the possibility that the Prime Minister's appreciation announcement to the people yesterday was related to the Himpunan Turun Anwar being organized. "Why not wait for the budget presentation? Such announcements should be made during the budget. "But why was it made now? It means that during the budget, there will likely be more such "appreciations", meaning if we hold more assemblies, perhaps the people will receive more," he said.

Anwar shrugs off Dr M's Batu Puteh dare

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has brushed aside Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's call to be charged over the Batu Puteh issue. When asked by reporters after attending the Finance Ministry's monthly assembly, Anwar responded briefly: "Let it be." Yesterday, the former prime minister rejected what he described as "immunity" granted to him over the matter, insisting that he be brought to court if any wrongdoing is found. Dr Mahathir also took aim at Anwar, accusing him of having already "found him guilty", and challenged the government to prove any allegations in court. Previously, Anwar said the cabinet had decided not to pursue legal action against Dr Mahathir over the Batu Puteh matter, citing his advanced age.

Anwar urges collective approach for fatwa decisions in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Fatwa institutions must operate collectively and ensure that any fatwa or religious edict issued is based on information gathering and in-depth analysis of the issue by qualified experts, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. In a Facebook post on Wednesday (July 23), Anwar said the matter was among those discussed during his meeting today with the Penang State Fatwa Committee led by Penang Mufti Assoc Prof Dr Mohd Sukki Othman. 'The responsibility of issuing fatwas is a noble and vital duty in providing clarity on religious rulings for the understanding of the ummah (Muslim community). 'The ummah needs fatwas that are in line with local realities and the current era, in addition to developing new skills in dealing with contemporary issues and challenges for the benefit of society,' he said. In the same post, Anwar said he and members of the Penang State Fatwa Committee also exchanged views on the development of Islamic scholarship, especially in matters related to fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), maqasid syariah (objectives of Islamic law) and efforts to strengthen fatwa-related research. - Bernama
