‘Seen Him Number Of Times…': Rubio Jokes About Jaishankar's Busy Schedule Ahead Of Quad Meet
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio praised External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar for his frequent and consistent work trips across the world, saying that he's a 'very busy guy."
In the opening remarks ahead of QUAD Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Washington, Rubio jokingly said that whenever he sees the news of EAM Jaishankar, he is found to be in a different part of the world.
'I've seen him a number of times in just six months on job. I was just telling him, he travels so much. Every time I see the news Dr. Jaishankar is in a different part of the world. He's a very busy guy," Rubio said.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, along with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Japan's Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya, and Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, participated in the QUAD Foreign Ministers' Meeting held at the US Department of State on Tuesday.
At the meeting, EAM Jaishankar said that the world must display zero tolerance against terrorism and asserted that 'victims and perpetrators" must never be equated.
The ministers discussed a wide range of regional and global issues, with a strong focus on counterterrorism cooperation.
Jaishankar, who is visiting the US from June 30 to July 2 at Marco Rubio's invitation, also held a meeting with US Secretary of State US Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth on the sidelines of the Quad foreign ministers' meeting, during which they discussed bilateral partnership, shared perspectives on regional and global developments, and advancing the defence partnership between the two countries.
During the meeting with Rubio, EAM Jaishankar discussed bilateral partnership between both countries in the field of security, critical technologies, connectivity, energy and mobility.

He also highlighted the strategic importance of India-US defence ties, describing them as 'one of the most consequential pillars" of the bilateral relationship during the meeting with Hegseth.
Speaking during the meeting at the Pentagon, Jaishankar said, 'I am here with you at the Pentagon because we believe that our defence partnership is, today, truly one of the most consequential."

Hegseth expressed enthusiasm about the growing defence partnership between the two countries. He highlighted the integration of US defence systems into India's armed forces and outlined the goal of expanding industrial cooperation and co-production networks.

'The US is very pleased for the successful integration of many US defence items… building on this progress, we hope we can complete several major pending US defence sales to India, expand our shared defence industrial cooperation and co-production networks, strengthen interoperability… and formally sign a new framework of US-India major defence partnership," Hegseth said.

Despite recent announcements from the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) that visa slots would open soon, no new appointments have been released yet, leaving students across Hyderabad anxious and desperate. Now we're in July and there's complete silence. Many are continuing to withdraw their applications or deferring admissions.' In the absence of official updates, many students are clinging to whatever tips they can find, often relying on peer networks and online communities. 'We were advised to keep our social media accounts public, but there is little clarity on what to do next,' said another applicant, who is headed to a university in New Jersey. 'It feels absurd, but we're desperate.' What's compounding the stress is a sharp increase in visa rejections, even among those who managed to get slots earlier this year. 'We've never seen rejection rates like this. Strong academic profiles, full scholarships, none of it is guaranteeing approval. It's extremely worrying,' said Rajni Mankotia from Way 2 Abroad Consultancy. She added the situation may be a mix of increased scrutiny, high application volume, and shifting immigration policies, but the lack of transparency is what's proving most damaging. 'The US has always been a top destination for Indian students, but this year's experience is shaking that trust. There needs to be clearer communication from the embassy so students aren't left hanging. If they will secure slots in the next days, they will miss out on the fall intake,' said Arvind Manduva from I20 Fever. 'Under new guidance, we will conduct a comprehensive and thorough vetting, including online presence, of all student and exchange visitor applicants in the F, M, and J nonimmigrant classifications,' said a spokesperson from US Consulate General Hyderabad. They further said, 'Consular sections constantly adjust their schedules to allow for sufficient time to fully vet the cases to ensure our visa operations around the world meet the highest standards.'

PM Modi arrives in Argentina on two-day visit, to hold talks with Milei
This is the first Indian bilateral visit at the prime ministerial level to Argentina in 57 years. It is Modi's second visit to the country as prime minister; he had visited in 2018 for the G20 Summit. It also marks the third stop on the prime minister's five-nation visit. Upon his arrival at the hotel, the prime minister was greeted by chants of "Modi, Modi" and "Bharat Mata ki Jai" from members of the Indian community, with whom he also interacted briefly. "Supreme Court Is Not A Chief Justice-Centric Court": BR Gavai
Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai reaffirmed the Supreme Court's commitment to transparency in judicial appointments during a felicitation ceremony organised by the Bombay Bar Association. He emphasised that the court is working to dispel the perception that the Supreme Court is "CJI-centric." Speaking at the Bombay High Court in an event organised by the Bombay Bar Association, CJI Gavai highlighted ongoing efforts to ensure a more inclusive and transparent appointment process. He noted that this approach had been strengthened since the tenure of Justice Sanjiv Khanna. "...We have tried to dispel the impression that the Supreme Court is a CJI-Centric court," CJI Gavai said. "In the interest of the institution, from the period of Justice Sanjiv Khanna, we have tried to infuse more transparency in the matter of appointments." He shared that the court had recently interviewed 54 candidates and recommended around 36 appointments. He assured that the selection process would continue to be transparent while ensuring fair representation from all sections of society. "For the last three days, on the first two days, we held interviews with about 54 candidates, and yesterday we have recommended around 36 appointments...I must assure you that we will ensure that we adopt a complete process of transparency while ensuring that representation is given to all sections of society. The merit will never be compromised," he added. Addressing the issue of case pendency, CJI Gavai acknowledged it as a serious challenge. He attributed one of the significant causes of pendency to judicial vacancies and assured that steps are being taken to address them. "Pendency is a huge issue. We are trying to work on it. One of the reasons for dependency is the vacancies which are not filled up. This is the third function in Nagpur that has flagged an issue about interference in the functioning of the college. I must assure you that we will ensure that we will adopt a complete process of transparency. While ensuring that the representation is given to all sections of the society, the merit will never be compromised, and in so far as my own High Court is concerned, I can assure that the names, whatever are recommended, we will try to follow it up and that as soon as possible the Bombay High Court starts functioning at full strength so that at least the issue of dependency is addressed to some extent." Justice Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai was sworn in as the 52nd Chief Justice of India in May. President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath of office to Justice Gavai, who succeeded CJI Sanjiv Khanna. Justice Gavai is the first Buddhist Chief Justice and only the second from the Dalit community, after former Chief Justice KG Balakrishnan, who held office in 2007, to occupy the highest judicial office in the country. Justice Gavai has also made it clear that he will not take any post-retirement assignments.
