Sabbi scores in 4th minute, White adds 1 goal, 1 assist as Whitecaps beat Dynamo 3-0
Yohei Takaoka had two saves and his MLS-high 10th shutout this season for Vancouver.
Mathias Laborda's header from the center of the area, off a ball-in played by Édier Ocampo, was parried by diving goalkeeper Jonathan Bond but Sabbi blasted a half-volley into the net to open the scoring.
Brian White, on the right side of the area, played a pass back to a charging Sebastian Berhalter for a first-touch finish from just outside the penalty box in the 42nd.
White had a penalty kick blocked by Bond but tapped in his own rebound to cap the scoring in the 56th.
The Whitecaps (12-5-5) had lost back-to-back games — by a combined score of 6-0 — and four of their last five.

Texas Rangers add veteran 1B Rowdy Tellez to their roster after All-Star break
Associated Press ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Veteran first baseman Rowdy Tellez was added to the Texas Rangers roster and was in the lineup Friday night for their first game after the All-Star break. There was no corresponding move necessary before their game against Detroit because the Rangers had an open spot on their 26-man active roster, and their 40-man roster. First baseman Jake Burger was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday because of a left quad strain. The Rangers also Friday put outfielder Sam Haggerty on the 10-day IL, retroactive to Tuesday, with left ankle inflammation. They selected Cody Freeman, a fourth-round draft pick in 2019, from Triple-A Round Rock and he was looking to make his big league debut. He was hitting .315 with 12 homers in the minors. Texas is the fifth big league team for the 30-year-old Tellez. He signed with Seattle as a free agent in February, then hit .208 with 11 home runs and 27 RBIs in 62 games before being designated for assignment and then released by the Mariners. He signed a minor league deal with Texas on July 5 and had been at Round Rock. 'They called me up, and try to make an impact in a positive way,' Tellez said. Tellez has a .232 average with 116 homers and 346 RBIs since his big league debut with Toronto in 2018. He has also played for Milwaukee and Pittsburgh. Burger, acquired in a trade from Miami in December, has hit .228 with 11 homers and 35 RBIs in 75 games. He is on the IL for the second time this season. ___ AP MLB: recommended Item 1 of 3

Lawyer says lawsuit is over between ex-NFL star Shannon Sharpe and woman who accused him of rape
LAS VEGAS (AP) — NFL Hall of Fame member Shannon Sharpe has resolved a lawsuit that accused him of sexually assaulting a woman during their relationship, her attorney said Friday. 'All matters have now been addressed satisfactorily, and the matter is closed. The lawsuit will thus be dismissed with prejudice," Tony Buzbee said on X, meaning the lawsuit can't be refiled. No details were released. The lawsuit had sought $50 million. Sharpe called the allegations 'false and disruptive' when the lawsuit was filed in April in Clark County, Nevada. He stepped away from work at ESPN at the time but had pledged to return by the start of the NFL preseason. A phone message seeking comment from Sharpe's attorney, David Chesnoff, wasn't immediately returned Friday. The woman first met Sharpe at a gym in Los Angeles in 2023 when she was 20, and a nearly two-year relationship followed, according to the lawsuit. Sharpe, 57, was accused of raping the woman in October 2024 and in January. 'Both sides acknowledge a long-term consensual and tumultuous relationship,' Buzbee said. 'After protracted and respectful negotiations, I'm pleased to announce that we have reached a mutually agreed upon resolution.' Sharpe was a four-time All-Pro tight end who played on two Super Bowl-winning teams with Denver and one with Baltimore over 14 seasons from 1990 to 2003. He was voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011. Sharpe retired as the NFL's all-time leader among tight ends in receptions (815), yards receiving (10,060) and touchdowns (62). Those records have been broken. Sharpe has been a staple on TV and social media since retiring. He left FS1's sports debate show 'Undisputed' in 2023 and joined ESPN soon afterward.

Trump Turnberry course ‘worthy' of British Open: DeCambeau
Bryce DeChambeau, a two-time U.S. Open champion, on Friday suggested the Trump Organization's Turnberry golf course in Scotland host the British Open. 'It's one of the best golf courses in the world, and I'd love for it to be a part of the rotation,' DeChambeau told reporters, according to the Associated Press. 'Albeit I haven't played it, I've heard so many great things about it, and anytime you get to play a special historical golf course like that, I think it's worthy of it, for sure.' The oldest golf tournament in the world was hosted at the site once, in 2009, before the Trump Organization acquired the property. Mark Darbon, chief of The R&A, which hosts the British Open, said transportation concerns would need to be addressed before being considered for future competitions. 'I think we've been extremely clear on our position in respect of Turnberry. We love the golf course, but we've got some big logistical challenges there,' Darbon said after meeting with Eric Trump on Wednesday, as reported by AP. 'You see the scale of their setup here and we've got some work to do on the road, rail and accommodation infrastructure around Turnberry,' he added. Still, DeChambeau, who's been seen with Trump on the campaign trail in Florida and putting next to him on the White House South Lawn, said the course should be considered for play. 'He'd still probably respect the R&A and what they're trying to accomplish,' DeChambeau said. 'I can't speak on his behalf, but what I can say is knowing him, he'll do his best of a job as he possibly can.' Turnberry is still on R&A's 10-venue British Open rotation but isn't playing an active role, AP reported. American pro golfer Scottie Scheffler is leading play at the 153rd Open Championship hosted at the Royal Portrush Golf Club in Northern Ireland. DeChambeau opened with a 78.
