Garland from Andal Temple being taken to Madurai for Lord Kallazhagar

The Hindu10-05-2025
Marking the Chitirai festival in Madurai, a huge garland, two toy parrots and other silk 'vasthrams' were being taken from the famous Andal Temple here to be adorned on Lord Kallazhagar, when He enters the Vaigai river on Monday.
Amidst special pujas and aradhanas performed by a group of archakars at the shrine here on Saturday, the garland was carried by the temple authorities to Madurai. The HR&CE officials led by Sakkarai Ammal, Avudaiammal and others said that it has been the tradition from time immemorial to send the 'gift' from Goddess Andal to Lord Kallazhagar, which would be adorned on the deity on the occasion.

Priya Maganti: Lens behind celebrity I Do's

As the world celebrates World Photography Day (August 19), it's a reminder of the power images hold to freeze time, evoke emotion, and tell stories that words often cannot. Few genres embody this more vividly than wedding photography, where love, tradition, and celebration converge in unforgettable frames. Among those redefining this craft is Hyderabad-based RVR PRO, a leading luxury photography and videography company led by Priya Maganti. Since 2012, the team has been trusted with capturing some of the city's most high-profile weddings, from sporting icons and film families to political dynasties. CE speaks to Priya Maganti, the CEO and co-founder, about her journey, the nuances of shooting celebrity weddings, and how she envisions taking Indian wedding storytelling to the global stage. Excerpts How did you get started in photography, and what led you to specialise in weddings? I've always been drawn to storytelling through visuals. Photography, for me, was about capturing emotions people could relive for a lifetime. Weddings felt like the perfect canvas, blending grandeur, intimacy, and human connection. Celebrity weddings happened organically, word of mouth from early clients opened doors, leading us to capture weddings like PV Sindhu's, Rajamouli's son's, Daggubati Venkatesh's daughter's, Venkaiah Naidu's granddaughter's, Ramoji Rao's granddaughter's, and several others.

Karan Kanchan: Have learned to stay on my feet and adapt

For some minds in the world, the thought of a linear, norm-driven life is far from appealing; such individuals seek to immerse themselves in an ocean of novelty, where creativity knows no bounds. Multi-genre music producer and artiste Karan Kanchan is one of those rare minds. Apart from working with international greats like Jason Derulo, Russ, and Armani White, he has also composed and produced Bollywood songs, notably Ishq Nachaawe from the film Kho Gaye Hum Kahan. Karan has also developed his own distinct style of Japanese-inspired Trap & Bass music, which he calls J-Trap. After heralding his show 'Karan Kanchan's Kitty Party' at Big Bull Superclub in Financial District, he opens up to CE about his journey, what music production is all about, and more. Excerpts How was it performing in Hyderabad? The show in Hyderabad was one of the best parties so far. I don't think we have clubs anywhere in India with this level of production. People here are full of energy and have so much love for music. This was also my final show of my three-month residency at Big Bull, and what a way to end it!

On Saturday, the star gave fans a drool-worthy glimpse of his cheat day spread - a plate loaded with fluffy bhatura, spicy chole, aloo sabzi and tangy pickled onions. Beside the plate, we could also spot what looked like a bowl of creamy raita. Adding more cuteness to the post, his golden retriever, Katori Aaryan, also made an appearance in the frame. Sharing the picture on Instagram, Kartik wrote, "I love my bhatura more than my brothora." He dropped a video on Instagram showing what the cam would catch if it landed on him. The twist? 'Fitness freak Kartik Aaryan cheating on his diet' with a chocolate bar. The video starts with Chris Martin saying, 'Either they are having an affair or they are just very shy.' IYKYK! It then cuts to Kartik munching on chocolate, only to realise the camera's on him. In a hurry, he spits it out, disappears, and returns holding dumbbells to fake a workout. His caption said it all: 'Almost got fired.' Click here to read the full story. Before that, while shooting for his film Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri with Ananya Panday, Kartik Aaryan gave fans a peek into his on-set feast at Nawalgarh Fort in Rajasthan.
