Recently, I wrote an article on the things I love about my Nintendo Switch 2, and I can now add Donkey Kong Bananza to that list. Apart from being the Switch 2's first major release post-launch, it's arguably the best reason to own the new console to date.
Although the game shares some similarities to its development team's previous title, Super Mario Odyssey, Donkey Kong Bananza feels like an entirely fresh approach for Nintendo, thanks to its smashable environments and layered levels, as well as the dynamic movement of its title character.
Best of all, Donkey Kong Bananza is just AU$109.95 AU$89 on Amazon right now, which is a solid saving of AU$20.95 on the RRP. Pretty good way to dodge Nintendo's next-gen price hike if you ask me...
Donkey Kong Bananza is the first must-have title to release for Nintendo Switch 2 since Mario Kart World, boasting a vast subterranean world that's just waiting to be smashed to pieces. Join DK and Pauline on an epic adventure in search of Banandium Gems. Use DK's fists to smash through the terrain and Pauline's singing abilities to transform DK into various animal forms. Now only AU$109.95 AU$89 on Amazon.
I've only played the game for a handful of hours so far, but I'm already hooked on its core mechanic of pummelling the environment to smithereens in search of precious Banandium Gems. In fact, I'm finding it hard to move forward in the game without smashing everything in sight — I may have a problem.
But don't just take my word for it — in his Donkey Kong Bananza review, my colleague Anthony Spadafora praised the game's "destructible environments and unique visuals." He also described it as "the 3D Donkey Kong game fans of the character have always wanted", though he did note that there were "some camera issues" and "far too many Banandium Gems to collect in a single playthrough."
Of course, those minor quibbles shouldn't stop you from playing one of the best Nintendo games in years — especially now that it's received a sweet 19% discount on Amazon, less than a fortnight after its release.

Nintendo Switch 2 First Impressions: The Devil You Know

Nintendo Switch 2 I've owned a Switch 2 for exactly three days now, and if the initial experience has taught me anything, it's the clear difference between good and interesting. While those terms aren't mutually exclusive, they probably are for Nintendo's new console, at least (to this writer) for the time being. It took me ages to finally track down Nintendo's follow-up to the Switch, and last week, late one night—while disappointingly sober, mind you—I bought the Mario Kart World bundle from Target's cursed website. With my own salt mine wages, no less. Are there more versatile and more powerful handheld gaming options available? Oh yes, yes indeed. But…Mario, though. And Peach. And that weird little Yoshi dog, too. What's its name? Smoochy? Whatever, man. My point is: You won't find first-party Nintendo magic on a ROG Ally X or a Lenovo Legion Go. Not legally, anyway. Here's the stark truth: The Switch 2 is very good, predictably good, boringly good, even. And from my present vantage point, that's the biggest drawback so far. Or maybe… it's the Switch 2's greatest strength? A complicated matter, yes. Like meaning and love and the argument for the best Pepsi flavor. (It's cherry) FEATURED | Frase ByForbes™ Unscramble The Anagram To Reveal The Phrase Pinpoint By Linkedin Guess The Category Queens By Linkedin Crown Each Region Crossclimb By Linkedin Unlock A Trivia Ladder Déjà Vu For Switch 2 Boys (and girls), I think we've been here before. The Switch 2 is an upgraded Switch 1 that can theoretically output 4K/60fps/HDR visuals in select games when docked (up to 120Hz in stuff like Fast Fusion, if update rumblings are to be believed), has a bigger 1080p HDR-capable portable display, and sports larger, improved Joy-Cons that aren't only for tiny children. But foundationally, it's still a Switch, through and through, for better and for worse. Kirby and the Forgotten Land + Star-Crossed World I'm far from the first person to utter such blasphemy, that Nintendo's approach to the Switch 2 has been less than exciting or innovative. Hell, even Nintendo undoubtedly knows its newest console doesn't break much new ground, especially when compared to the likes of the motion-controlled Wii, the 3D-pioneering N64 or even the original hybrid-centric Switch. Playing it safe is likely by design, especially if you've sold the amount of Switch and Switch 2 consoles Nintendo has to date. If you're smart, you don't fix what isn't broken. You subtly enhance. You tweak. You carefully iterate. And for someone who lived through the Dreamcast's legendary 9/9/99 launch, how annoying I find this strategy. Where's my VMU equivalent? Where's my ground-breaking SegaNet service? I guess there are simply less amazing surprises in gaming in 2025—I fear we've already experienced them all. Mouse Trap Yeah, with the Switch 2, you've got the added Joy-Con 2 mouse functionality, which borders on compelling and has a lot of potential. I've played around with this alternative control option a little bit, and I like it a lot. It's cool and quirky and undeniably Nintendo, but since I don't own a copy of the controversial Welcome Tour, I've only been able to use it on the Switch 2's main menu, desktop PC-style. Beyond sheer novelty, though, all the mouse feature has managed to do is make me long for another Mario Paint, and I consider it a crime against gamers everywhere that this machine didn't launch with a long-awaited follow-up. MP might be my most-played SNES title, now that I think about it. It literally never got old. But also, my brain hadn't fully developed, so take that with a grain of salt (from the mines—see above). Pokémon Legends: Z-A But come on, Nintendo. You have mice literally built into the Switch 2 controllers. Total missed opportunity here, although for all I know, there could be another Mario Paint in development. If there is, I'll be there day one, and I finally can stop complaining. In the meantime, I guess there's always DK Artist to mess around with. DK Artist is an extra mode in GOTY contender Donkey Kong Bananza, a supposedly stellar game that helps prove out the the contention of this article, which is: Hardware doesn't need to be flashy or cutting-edge to deliver excellent software. The legacy Switch proved this time and time again, and given enough runway, I think the Switch 2 will as well. Yay And Nay The Switch 2 hardware feels obviously premium, utterly dull, and oddly comforting in a way that remains wildly confusing to me. I don't think I've ever been so incredibly underwhelmed by a brand new console, yet continually impressed at the same time. The PS5 Pro exists in the same baffling category, so perhaps this is simply an indication that most future gaming consoles will feel similarly, disappointingly, dependably same-y. That said, I like that the dock seems of a higher quality, and the more substantial Joy-Con 2's—paired with the bigger display of the Switch 2 itself—make playing in portable mode more appealing than on the Switch 1. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond I have large hands, and as hard as I tried, I could never get comfortable with the original Joy-Cons. The feel of the Joy-Con 2 controllers is definitely improved, most notably the thumbsticks with their extra surface area, and how they magnetically snap into the Switch 2 slab. Satisfying! Still, I prefer using traditional, less-cramped gamepads, like the excellently refreshed Pro 2 Controller. Additionally, the physical game card slot is now easier to open thanks to a helpful divot, and I dig the inclusion of a top-facing USB-C port, which is great for passively charging random accessories, simultaneously charging the console, or plugging in a wired controller while in battery-powered tabletop mode. Honestly, I'm determined to attach an eGPU to this thing through the top USB-C port at some point—5090 Switch 2 gaming?! Lastly, I installed Lexar's 1TB microSD Express card on my Switch 2, which nicely expanded the included 256GB of system storage. You need to use Express cards on the Switch 2, by the way. Older microSD cards aren't compatible. It's-A-Me, Hardware Boost! The Switch 2's UI is noticeably faster than the Switch's, especially when browsing the store or NSO, and that's a godsend. Mario Kart World, even in 1440p, looks fantastic, and it's rather obvious you'd never be able to run it on a legacy Switch. That Wave Race water, though! Wipeout homage Fast Fusion plays like a dream at 4K/60fps and shows off what the system is capable of. Cyberpunk 2077 runs surprisingly well. GameCube games on NSO run pretty well, too, and I bought a GameCube controller on Nintendo's store to fully and authentically partake. More on all these titles in a future article. NSO GameCube controller I will say that games utilizing HDR look a tad washed out when docked and outputting to (in my case) a 4K monitor, but apparently this is a widespread issue, and I'll look into fixing it this week when I have some time. Not a huge deal, but irksome, nonetheless. Moreover, the Switch 2 reduces load times across the board for many older games, and I've grown to really appreciate this aspect of the hardware. Animal Crossing may as well be a new game with how quickly it loads on the current hardware. I also booted up Croc: Legend of the Gobbos, which has pretty short load times to begin with, and on the Switch 2, load times are practically nonexistent. This means you can watch me in the game's Crocumentary instantly. I did additionally check out the upgrades for Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom (turns out they're 'free' if you're an NSO subscriber) and while they're running at an upscaled 1440p and not at native 4K on my docked Switch 2, the stable 60fps gameplay makes these titles immeasurably more playable by today's gaming standards. There's no going back to the 30fps Switch versions, that's for sure. I think my loudest complaint with the Switch 2 hardware is the arguably inferior LCD screen. While thankfully larger and totally serviceable in regular gameplay situations, it ultimately feels like a technological step backward. I got quite accustomed to my Switch's rich OLED display over the years and I really miss those deep, dark OLED blacks on the newer Switch 2 screen. I'm sure a Switch 2 OLED is coming in the next few years, so I understand why Nintendo is holding back here. I'll no doubt buy that version too, damn it. Accessory to a Shrine The new Pro Controller, which I bought alongside the Mario Kart World bundle, might be the best controller I've ever used. This is coming from someone who still worships the original Pro gamepad as some kind of false idol. Sony's DualSense still places a close second to both editions of the Pro, but the Switch 2 Pro is a peripheral masterpiece, minus its admittedly dry, unpleasant texture. I can't describe it any other way; the feel of it skeeves me out, although I do forget about it after a few rounds of MKW. Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller The thumbsticks are pure butter and have just the right amount of tension. The d-pad is nice and springy, as are the chunky face buttons, though I'd prefer a touch more travel in the ZL and ZR triggers. The Pro 2 adds two programmable back handle buttons this time around, GR and GL, plus a C button on the front of the controller that triggers Nintendo's new GameChat feature. I didn't buy a Switch 2 camera, unfortunately, and I also don't typically chat online, so I didn't test this feature. Switched On, Switched Off Ultimately, my first impression of the Switch 2 is one of slightly disenchanting familiarity, but it's somehow okay, because in the end, I'm dealing with the devil I know. Would I have preferred a higher resolution OLED display right out of the gate? Yes. Beefier internals? Sure. Innovation that wow'd me at a childlike level of wonder and awe? Absolutely. Donkey Kong Bananza But Nintendo isn't trying to reinvent the wheel with the Switch 2. It's delivering, in the most conservative way possible, a modestly leveled-up continuation of its past success. We're cool with the lack of forward design progress because we've been conditioned to accept Nintendo's successfully stubborn approach to technological change. It just works. As I've labeled it in the system menu, the Mitch Switch 2 will still get plenty of playtime, even if this generational leap has been more of a respectable hop. Maybe, just maybe, this will refocus gamers' attention on what actually matters: Fun. Sony and Microsoft and the PC world can keep playing the cutting-edge hardware competition while Nintendo luxuriates in its bizarre boutique silo, unbothered, moisturized, in its lane, consistently content with winning its own solo race. Is the Switch 2 good? Yes, resoundingly. Is it interesting? Well, not right now, but it might be getting there. We'll see.

Family of 5 Go Viral for $1K Grocery Hauls. Now They're Breaking Down the Reality of the Hefty Price Tag (Exclusive)

YouTubers Gabby and Christian Carlin talk with PEOPLE about grocery shopping for a family of fiveNEED TO KNOW Gabby and Christian Carlin share how they involve their three kids in their grocery shopping routine, from building the list to picking the snacks The YouTube creators break down their monthly grocery costs and why they don't stick to a strict budget The parents of three also open up about balancing content creation with real-life parentingFor YouTube creators Gabby and Christian Carlin, grocery shopping with their kiddos is less about going viral and more about getting through the list, just like any other family. Gabby and Christian Carlin — who go by @TheCarlins on YouTube — are parents to three children, Audrey, 5, Asher, 4, and Abbie, 2, often sharing their family adventures with a growing online audience. Among their most popular content is peeks at their monthly grocery shopping hauls, where viewers often weigh in with their guesses on the price tag. They admit to PEOPLE that buying groceries with three little ones in tow is no easy feat. 'When we do our groceries, we always come with a big list,' Christian tells PEOPLE exclusively. 'Whenever we run out of something, we tell Amazon, 'Alexa, add this to the list,' because if not, we're going to forget.' Naturally, with three kids, sticking to the list isn't always easy. The kids sometimes try to sneak items into the cart — 'Asher, he's like a little ninja,' Christian says of their 4-year-old son — so they make it a point to have them check in before adding anything. 'Sometimes it's something that we actually need,' Christian adds. 'They're so aware of what we need — they're so smart.' To avoid impulse buys, the Carlins say they usually head to the store after breakfast, which helps curb cravings and keep their purchases focused and shopping may be a routine task for the Carlins, but in their household, it's something the kids actually look forward to. 'We just tell 'em, 'Hey, we're going to go do groceries,' and they get super excited because they love going with us,' Gabby time, even staple items have become a source of excitement — from frozen mangoes and peaches to a recent family favorite: Sam's Club egg bites. 'It's like we're going to Starbucks at home,' she adds. 'We make them their little meal, and they eat it.' With a home full of activities — from dance and football to swim lessons and homeschooling — grocery trips also double as prep for the week ahead. The Carlins rely on easy, grab-and-go snacks like fruit, yogurt and veggie chips to keep their kids fueled throughout the go-to picks include easy handheld items like mandarins, veggie chips, yogurt drinks, Babybel cheese and string cheese snacks that travel well between sports, dance and days at the also keeps a small bag in the car stocked with diapers, wipes and other essentials. It's a system that comes in handy not just for the baby, but also for the older kids. 'Even for the bigger kids, the wipes are always needed,' she parents of three don't necessarily have a budget when it comes to groceries, and for good reason. Buying in bulk from Sam's Club allows them to stock up on essentials for the month, while weekly trips to Publix help replenish fresh produce, dairy and other household items as needed. 'Groceries are so expensive,' Gabby says. 'We just need to get what we need, because if we have everything at home, we have no reason to eat out [at a restaurant].' 'When we do go to Sam's Club, it literally lasts us a whole month,' Christian adds. 'People are like, 'Oh my gosh, between $500 and $600 at Sam's Club for a family of five,' but it lasts us a whole month.'Still, the Carlins make quick stops at Publix throughout the week — often for fresh produce, milk or other perishables — which adds to their overall grocery bill. 'So, five to seven hundred for Sam's Club, but on top of that, we go to Publix every week, so that's probably like $120 to $200 a week,' Christian says. All in all, the Carlins spend about $1,000 a month to keep the whole family well-fed and ready for their action-packed days. For the parents of three, what began as a fun, creative outlet while they were still in college has since evolved into a full-time career, one built on authenticity and lots of teamwork behind the scenes. Still, quality time with their family is the priority. 'We are a complete team in this house,' Christian says. 'Family time is the most important.' 'Every day looks so different, so we balance it out,' Gabby adds. Read the original article on People Solve the daily Crossword

Just 30 Under-$25 Products From Amazon's "Most Wished For" Section You'll Want To Add To Cart

Psst! Did you know Amazon has a section called "Most Wished For" that's filled with products fellow shoppers are currently adding to their wishlists? From parenting must-haves to new beauty favorites, here are some items to add to your cart (or wish list) ASAP! Suction cup knobs that are about to completely change your bathroom storage game. The twist-and-lock design can easily adhere to glass, plastic, mirror, or porcelain surfaces — and it holds up to 15 pounds! You can also easily remove them and place them in a new area as many times as you want, so your loofah knobs can become your hand towel knobs with ease. A set of 10 retractable Crayola markers — wait, how long have these been a thing?! Do you know how many markers child-me had to toss because the cap went rolling under the stove, never to be seen again?! Well, today's kids (and kids at heart) can simply give these a satisfying click once they're done coloring, and today's parents can rest assured that these markers will last through dozens of arts and crafts sessions. OPI RapiDry Quick Dry Nail Polish that dries more quickly than... actually, it already dried before I could think of a clever example!! One minute is all it takes — yes, just 60 seconds — to get a fully-dried veil of vibrant color that'll help you hold off on that expensive gel set you've been meaning to get. The new NeeDoh "Dream Pop" fidget toy from the makers of the wildly popular Needoh Nice Cube (which went triple platinum on last year's Stocking Stuffer charts). You can squeeze and stretch this all you want, then watch it return to its original shape. It even comes with a cute stand so it'll be ready to grab any time you need a fidget break. A pack of duster sponges some reviewers say are even better than the often-sold-out Scrub Daddy Damp Duster (also, why isn't it called the Dust Daddy?!) This is perfect for that annoying caked-on dust that a typical dry duster can't tackle — just dampen it, swipe, then rinse to reuse. Skala's Mais Cacho Hair 2-in-1 Conditioning Treatment that's truly a multitasking marvel. You can use it as an in-shower conditioner by applying it to clean hair and rinsing out after three minutes, or you can apply it as a leave-in treatment for all-day moisture that won't weigh your curls down. A Dash single-serve ice cream maker — it can whip up a half-pint of creamy goodness in 20 minutes. Oh, and it's not just for ice cream — it can also make froyo, sorbets, and frozen drinks! Reviewers say it seems awfully similar to the Ninja Creami, except it takes up way less space while saving you around $100. A super absorbent Muddy Mat to stop dirty paw prints in their tracks! It may look like a simple doormat, but pet owners say this one actually traps dirt and water from their pup's paws when coming back inside on rainy days. Oh, and it also works on kids/spouses/roomies/etc. who simply can't be bothered to wipe their feet off. Just take deep breaths, the Muddy Mat has you covered. And a beloved duck-shaped crinkle squeaker that has me convinced dogs know how to use Amazon when we're not looking — because how else did this end up on so many wishlists?! Pups will love investigating the mysterious squeak, while pup parents will love the fact that it won't leave stuffing all over your home. An absolutely genius trash bag dispenser so you can ditch the flimsy cardboard box they come in. Simply place it on your counter or mount it to the wall — but don't be surprised if you suddenly start looking for excuses to take out the trash. A Frida Baby rinse cup that's on basically every parent's wishlist for making bath time an absolute breeze. The spout creates a gentle rainfall effect to help make the rinsing process less overwhelming for babies who are a bit suspicious of this whole H2O business. You can also use the other side for a slightly heavier "waterfall" pour that's still gentle enough for even the fussiest toddler. I'm gonna be honest with you, reader — this looks so relaxing I kind of want one for myself. And a set of wrist and sock rattles — they'll get all their kicks and stretchies in, and a bit of sensory exploration while rattling their hearts out. I'm gonna be honest yet again, reader — I would absolutely buy an adult size of these. Medicube's collagen jelly that reviewers say has a "glass skin" effect that's nothing less than spellbinding. The hydrolyzed collagen is formulated to be easily absorbed by your skin, which helps hydrate and might even add a slight plumping effect to really emphasize your ~glow~ for the day. And the jelly consistency is just plain fun. A pair of sandals with a foam footbed so soft and supportive it'll remind you of your fave yoga mat. The fabric laces will keep the top of your feet just as comfy as your soles — and make you officially swear off the cheap rubber flip-flops that break after taking 2.5 steps in them. In fact, they might even make you say sayonara to the way-pricier Sanuks. 👀 The Catrice "Instant Awake" Under Eye Brightener, which will have you singing 🎵 "where have you been all my li-i-i-i-i-ife?" 🎵 on those busy mornings when you need to look like you got a full eight hours of sleep. It's meant to blend seamlessly into the skin and adds light coverage to dark circles. And an eye cream from mega popular K-beauty brand Beauty of Joseon — it features retinol to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and niacinamide to brighten. Dab it on as part of your night routine, or swipe some on before applying your go-to concealer for an even base. And!!! Grace & Stella eye masks to help brighten and depuff the dark circles that have had your under-eyes in a chokehold since college. Pick up the blue "illuminating" formula to help brighten under-eyes (thanks to the niacinamide!) the yellow "Energizing" formula to help smooth fine lines (thanks to sea moss!), or the pink "Moisturizing" formula to help add extra moisture. (Thanks to hyaluronic acid!) Bio-Collagen's Real Deep sheet mask that works overnight to refresh your skin. No, really, it's designed to be worn while you sleep — it's transfer-resistant, so it won't leave a mess on your pillow! It's infused with hyaluronic acid to hydrate, collagen to maximize absorption and minimize the appearance of pores, and probiotics to strengthen the skin's barrier. Best of all, it turns transparent when your skin is done absorbing the serum, so you'll know when it's ready to take off. A pair of leggings with a double-take-worthy price and a jaw-dropping 17,000+ rave ratings. According to reviewers, these are comfy with just the right amount of stretch, and they're thin enough for warm weather but thick enough to pair with a jacket in the fall. We love a wardrobe staple that'll take us through several seasons! An Anua pore-clearing cleansing oil that's specifically designed to help regulate your sebum production and break down blackheads, making it a great option for all my fellow oily-skinned peeps. It also helps break down makeup, so you can finally stop wasting money on makeup-removing wipes! A pair of rounded square aviator sunglasses to add a retro-chic vibe to all of your outfits. They're so lightweight you might forget you're even wearing them, but the influx of "Where did you get those?!" comments will remind you! A set of four art prints to add a bit of greenery to your space without needing a green thumb. The vibrant artwork is printed on high-quality paper with an embossed linen texture. All you have to do is supply some 8x10 frames and decide whether to hang them together or split them up between different rooms! A pair of rechargeable motion sensor lights so you can finally see exactly which Little Debbie you're reaching for in the pantry when that late-night snack craving hits. They're also great for closets, under cabinets, or even illuminating the shelves holding your exquisite Lego Flower collection. A toilet wand with disposable cleaning heads (the cleaning solution is built-in — just activate with water!) that'll make scrubbing the porcelain throne feel like less of a chore. The kit comes with six refill heads (and a handy dandy storage stand for the wand and refills) to get you started, so you can immediately say goodbye to that dirty toilet brush and get to scrubbing in about 30 seconds! A pack of two dark spot corrector soap bars packed with tons of vitamin C and turmeric — aka the ultimate superhero ingredients for potentially brightening and reviving dull skin. Reviewers have had luck using this on both the face and body — but we recommend giving it a patch test first on a small area to see how your skin reacts. All good? Then start sudsing away! A stain treater spray so effective that you'll remain suspiciously calm the next time your tot's chocolate milk makes its way from their sippy cup to the couch cushion. Or when your glass of merlot faces a similar fate. Just spray, blot, rinse, and pour another. A cropped tank top sports bra that has rave reviews for providing support without skimping on comfort. It features removable cups for a more customized feel, and the sweat-wicking material makes it perfect for intense workouts. Reviewers say it's a way cheaper alternative for Lululemon's similar style, so future you will be so glad you saved some coin. A nifty strainer you can attach to the side of your pot so you'll never burn yourself while awkwardly straining into a colander ever again. Imagine not having to wash a bulky full-size colander every time you cook pasta!!! It's flexible enough to fit on a wide array of pot sizes, and reviewers say the clamps keep is firmly in place — so no need to worry about your tortellini taking a tumble into the sink. A crevice cleaning tool reviewers are raving over thanks to its comfortable nonslip handle and elongated bristles that are perfect for cleaning hard-to-reach areas, like window tracks, keyboards, toilet seats, grout, and the very scary nastiness that's lurking around your faucet. Eos' Shea Butter Vanilla Cashmere body lotion that gives brands like Bath and Body Works and Philosophy a run for their money. Not only does it smell like a caramel-vanilla dream, but it also includes shea butter and shea oil for a light touch of moisture that won't take 3,000 years to absorb.
